Has anyone ever experienced the controllers not connecting to the console when they're not docked to the console? They're fine when connected but as soon as I take them out of the console I can't get them to connect. The console, dock and controllers are all up to date and the controllers are charged. I've tried a system reset, but doesn't make any difference. I'd rather not have to send them away for repair, so wondering if there's something I'm missing?
@DazShot Third party controllers? We'll assume those controllers are designed to work with the switch wirelessly. - pardon the basic stuff, but when you're stuck, you have to rule out everything to make sure nothing's been overlooked.
Yeah, first steps for nintendo support troubleshooting are basic things; make sure the console is updated, controllers are updated. Make sure switch wifi turned on (wireless/bluetooth connectivity is part of that).
If nintendo support troubleshooting can't solve the issue, then you may have hardware failure, and repair is needed
You said controllers, plural, won't connect, which could indicate hardware failure with the console.
Thanks @WoomyNNYes. These are the standard joy-con's, not 3rd party. They pair fine when I connect them to the console and one does connect wirelessly for a brief period, but then disconnects. Sounds like hardware issue then 😭
@DazShot Regarding joycon pairing, the last-ditch-effort to try is, make sure there are no smartphones or any other bluetooth devices near the console & controllers (interfering). I recall seeing that in a nintendo support page. If you saw that already, no need to reply.
Make sure your issue isn't specific to one particular game. (no need to reply if you've ruled this out. Just trying to think of everything weird that could happen.)
