Topic: Consumer protection when buying from Nintendo online

Hi everybody, long time reader, first time writer here.

This christmas i had an awfull experience with the nintendo online store which really got me wondering what our rights are as consumers. I bought the new Paw Patrol game for my two kids. It is advertised as a 2player game so i thought they would have fun together. Come christmas eve, we download the game, update it and run it. As soon as you press pause, the game crashes. You can not play 2 players without pausing the game, making it unplayable.

TL:DR, nintendo sold me a game that does not work. I contacted Nintendo support and Outright game support (the developer). To this day, outright games has not answered, it's been almost a month. Nintendo refuse to do anything about it, because when you buy the game it says that you forfeit the chance to apply for a refund. They also said that they will not discuss the matter further before i receive an answer from Outright games. Clearly Outright games knows this, because they are not answering my emails.

This leaves me dumbfounded. I bought a game for my 2kids from nintendo and they just took my money and left me with a non-working game. The game has been out since November 6, so almost 3 months and it is still unplayable. What the hell?

I have a video of the game not working, proof its updated and i can pass on the e-mails if nintendo-life wants to run a bigger thing on this. I think this is just disgusting

You sum it up yourself you forfeited a refund buying it digitally. This is one reason physical is better. Next time I suggest maybe reading some reviews or watching some game play on YouTube before purchasing a digital game so you know what your getting into and don't end up in the position you are in. That's what I do before I purchase a digital game otherwise I get a physical copy.

@Tasuki So you think its perfectly allright to sell games that do not work and it's up to the consumer to do research before buying? Just because something might be legal, doesn't mean it's good business practise. I understand if it was about the game being good or bad, but when a core function of the game doesn't work you are not selling the product you claim.

Who doesn't do research before buying anything?? Do you go and buy a car without researching it?? A house? A tv?? Video games are the same thing.

Here's the truth video game companies don't care, they are a business. All they care about is selling the game they don't care about how it plays what it's about etc. People need to realize that video game companies are not our friends but a business.

Next time do your research.

He never said game companies were supposed to be your friend. He's pointing out a bad business practice.

@Frobodobo try deleting the game and redownload the game again. If that doesn’t work. Try deleting the update and then booting the game. Hope it works out for you

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

XD buying a game is the same as buying a house?

Theres this other thing companies have, it's called an image. Surely we can agree that nintendos image is one of being a reliable source of games. They want parents to feel confident that their kids will be happy with their products.

Here is what their website says.

"Nintendo's mission is to put smiles on the faces of everyone we touch. We do so by creating new surprises for people across the world to enjoy together."

Well i think we can agree that they sure provided me with a new surprise. the rest they still need to work on

And maybe next time the OP should do some research before buying and stop crying about people being unfair.
