Support will come in due time, you cant blame them considering the WiiU fiasco, now that the Switch is selling well and it has been a huge success third party SHOULD (in theory) come in.

The Wii had a great third party support and actually third party games that took a decent spin out of what the console was sold really well

I can see Switch 2nd year having a lot more 3rd party games once the install base is fully ready

I'm more worried about Nintendo not promoting the games that are coming, to be honest.

Still all safe picks if you ask me... nothing revealed yet that says OMG that game is on Switch. I guess you have to start someplace. But it is easy to say x game didn't sell enough so can't bring the heavy hitters. How about start with at least one heavy hitter.

To be fair everything released this year will be stuff that was in development before the Switch reveal. In order for something like CoD to have been ported to Switch this year? Someone at Activision would have had to sit down with Nintendo early last year and take a gamble on a new console from Nintendo with sales figures from 2015 in mind:

PS4: 17mill
XBOne: 9mill
3DS: 7mill
Wii U: 3mill

You're the dude holding the purse strings at Activision, EA or Ubisoft. Do you invest millions in Nintendo's next portable that's only about as powerful as the Wii U knowing those numbers above? Maybe not. It's a bit of a gamble really. But fast forward to this year? The Switch is doing well, it's selling about on par with the PS4 week-by-week with supply issues. It's a bit of a different sell.

If next year at E3 it's the same story? Then you can start talking.

Having sat through E3 im not convinced at all with 3rd party support, Other than games we knew of from some of the major 3rd party supporters they added nothing new. In fact they showed up with games coming out for everything but the switch.

Going by the trailer for BG2, i think casts doubt on my mind that it will be on the Switch. As much as we don't want it to be power and graphics are king for the vast majority of gamers and Nintendo keep narrowing their appeal by creating an under powered machine.

E3 reminds me of the Wii U where out of the gate major parties pledged support and it never materialized. EA with one Fifa one madden and what Mass effect 3 and Need for speed on Wii u, it's like Deja Vu but this time Minus the Madden, Mass effect and need for speed we got less this time round . I'm a Nintendo fan but still find it a amusing than Fifa 15 was on both the Wii and 3DS and not on Wii u which had Fifa 13. Ubisoft Has started off the same with a game where you buy a toy akin to Skylanders and of course just dance, only reason we are getting something more is its a joint game Mario+rabbids.

Other than new additions from Bethesda and Psyonix and 2K games it doesn't look bright at least for 3rd party games. Nintendo will no doubt knock it out of the park with 1st party games as normal and who knows what Retro is up to if anything.

From now till next E3 2018 as then we will find out if the support is real or just lip service.

WiiU cod games were ported and made in mere months. By smaller devs teams. Switch is more powerful than Wii u in handheld mode alone. Disappointed in Activision. But I do expect a surprise announcement or two for switch before the year is out. So we will see

@WaveBoy Dude, if you can find time to play all those games, for even one of the consoles, let me know your secret. Oh, and isn't DQ Heroes 2 already on Switch? It was a launch game for Japan.

Ah, each to their own. Sounds like you have a Switch and a PS4, so you don't even need to worry about it. I would add, though, that many of the Sony games you refer to are not third-party titles anyway - a good number are made by Sony subsidiaries.

Can you really blame companies for being wary though? After the Wii U... I'd be a little uneasy about putting my eggs in the basket too. They're running a business, not a charity. I'm not even remotely convinced that third parties are on board here. I think they are waiting to see the Switch sales numbers before they go in. I think Bethesda is trying, and I think the Switch version of Skyrim will do well. EA.... well, enough said. We all lived through the Wii U. Ports of old games/gimped versions of games, sold at full price, and then wondering why they aren't selling. That could easily happen again.

While I am sad at certain games not being on Switch, I'm convinced at this point that what they're doing is working for the long term to help 3rd parties. They've done so much better with SO FEW games and a lack of HEAVILY HYPED, NEW games then they've done for like the past 15 years. So clearly, they should keep that up for this year.

That being said, they should've shown a bit more. They already had people confirmed to be on board, considering it is still the top selling console in the world, 3 months in, against the PS4, it is bizarre that no one is showing that much, and I don't know why.

As a counterpoint to this though, Nintendo is ACTUALLY focused on 2017, and Ubisoft announced a Mario Rabbids crossover that took 3 years and is coming out in less than 3 months from its official announcement. For a console whose release date was announced 2 months in advance, most of its launch lineup included. So if Dark Souls 1/2 or Shadow of Mordor or an English DQHeroes release is announced in October for a February release, or something, I will not be shocked.

I'm still hoping games like Resident evil 2 remake and Final fantasy 7 remake make appearance in switch. Although I know capcom announced RE2 remake 2 years before switch release, i still hope they consider to port it. Need to give switch more time, hopefully next year E3 will deliver much more third party game for switch owner.

@WaveBoy
Everyone gaming taste is different. The dragon ball z fighter is the only game from E3 that I saw that I wanted for switch. Obviously it has a good chance of coming but we will see. But I don't feel deprived in any way because I game primarily on the switch.

Honestly the 3rd party situation feels worse than before, even the big Japanese 3rd parties like Capcom are already abandoning the Switch with situations like Monster Hunter now a PS4/XB1/PC franchise. Sure MHXX is on Switch in Japan but there's no signs of localization meanwhile World is coming to all but Nintendo.

In the end, if 3rd parties go the expected way you could get a PS4 or XB1 for rather cheap as a 3rd party machine.

You people do realise how long it takes to make a video game, right?

The console has only been out for a little over 3 months - third-parties will go where the money is & if they continue to see the Switch shifting major hardware units, they'll want to tap in to that growing market...but to expect to see them after just a few months is totally, wildly unrealistic. It's far, far too early to make any sweeping judgements at this stage...

I think we're pretty lucky to have what we're getting after the flop that was the WiiU - Nintendo have clearly thrown some major cash/incentives at the likes of EA, Bethesda and Ubisoft to ensure that there are some major titles in year 1 - with a view to seeing that support grow if the sales figures stack up. Judging by the excitement I see for the likes of FIFA, Skyrim and, in particular, the Rabbids crossover - these games are likely to shift major numbers...then we'll hopefully see a swell of third-party titles as studios clamour to get their piece of the pie!

It's too early to tell at the moment, but it's clear that Nintendo care - they've obviously put considerable effort in to negotiating deals with EA, Bethesda and Ubisoft to ensure that there is a year 1 presence...I, for one, appreciate the lengths they've gone to - and am optimistic that Nintendo's efforts will be rewarded in the future.

Third parties are never going to support a Nintendo console. Even if the Switch surpasses the Xbox One in sales it still won't get third party support. Third party games don't sell on Nintendo consoles and video games are too expensive to make these days. Developers won't be able to make their money back on Switch ports.

Bolt_Strike

It's definitely better than Wii U, but third parties still seem to be ignoring Nintendo. Just as well though, most third party games are trash.

It's going to be hard to get the right type of 3rd party support. See the Switch much like wii and WiiU is underpowered compared to the other two machines on the market. This means straight out ports are more difficult or just plain unable to do without significant investment for devs to make it work on the Switch.
What we need as Switch owners is 3rd parties to make some unique games specifically for Switch much like the 3DS recieves. If publishers could see Switch as an alternative to the other two consoles instead of as competition. The Wii had modest success in this respect as the sales numbers meant publishers knew there was a market.
But even then in saying that how many great 3rd party unique titles existed on that? Zak and Wiki, No Nore Heroes there's some just not loads!
Clearly the Switch can handle itself but for most publishers are they going to see it as anything more than something to recycle and remaster old games I'm not 100% certain.

The thing is the Switch doesn't even need third party games that the PS4 or Xbox have to be viable...It needs the third party games that normally come to the 3DS.

If the switch becomes the home for Shin Megami Tensei, Professor Layton, Ace Attorney...those games along with pokemon, zelda and fire emblem would basically move the entire RPG, platforming and puzzle fanbase that the 3DS strives on over to the switch.

(Nintendo needs to steal monster hunter back from sony)

@Sleepingmudkip kinda what I said.. 😜 Lol but yeah totally agree. I don't want a port of the latest cod I want something different if I'm gonna play cod that'll b on PS4. I'm sick of ppl claiming the Switch should take up the role of primary console. Nintendo consoles have not been that for going on 3 gens now.

NaviAndMii

@Filth_Element I play my Switch every day - I have only played my PS4 once since the Switch released in early March...it's pretty safe to say that the Switch is my primary console now! ..my PS4's role has been reduced to that of 'primary dust gatherer' :/

...not trying to mock the PS4 in any way - the fact is, there are certain games that the Switch just won't be able to handle - but that's pretty much the only good reason I have for keeping my PS4...for any games that release on both systems, my preference would be to buy them for my Switch (unless they're seriously gimped) because I prefer it as a console in almost every single way.

@NaviAndMii well yeah... that's what I mean. I'm the same I haven't played my PS4 in a couple of months now. But it's still there when a big game gets released (can't wait for Wolfenstein btw) and there when I need it for Netflix etc.
I wouldn't say Switch is my main console though with just a couple of games available. I've finished BOTW, 1-2 Switch is pretty poor and MK8Dx is not something I play everyday..
Actually the only reason I haven't played PS4 in a while is because I only recently got a WiiU so there's plenty to catch up on there. If that hadn't happened recently I would have finished BOTW and moved back to PS4 for Horizen and Battlefield 1. So Switch has defo not taken main console role, there's just not the games to give it that title.
What are you playing that's given the Switch dominance over your PS4?
