@Zyrac I could see Barq being distracting when a person is first learning the game, but I expect that it won't take long for people to learn how to quickly disable the dog, and then all you're left with is a gimped fighter until the dog recovers/match ends.
I'm thinking I'll use Master Mummy initially. He seems like a decent choice for newbies due to his relative simplicity, plus he's basically a tank, which will be helpful since I imagine I'll get hit a lot at first.

He can really be a monstrous pick as a tank in 2v2. Can't imagine how he can perform well with Kid Cobra!!
Byte and Bark are slow. The jump is cool, but it's the most predictable, slowest motion in the game.
Ribbon Girl has fast fall, good speed besides, and can chain four jumps together. Secret champ, that one.
Of course tier lists are only for super competitive play (and also not why I'm thinking of maining Ribbon Girl). I'm sure most characters will prove decently fun to play.
Barq trampoline also deflects punches like Spring Man's shockwaves, and you can hop several times in a row on him. Meaning you can "protect" him from slower punches this way, or just counter-punch either way with a fast arm of your own. More importantly, you do NOT want to mess with the mutt if Byte has a flurry ready, because not only will that instantly revive him (approx. 5 seconds isn't TOO long all things considered, though can be issue on larger stages), but you won't be able to defend yourself from the ensuing barrage because your arm still needs to retract.
I have one big question, though: in team battles, can teammates use the Barq trampoline as well?
But regardless of all that, even if they or any other character turns out to be "weaker" than others, it's hardly a huge blow to their viability, since, and I'll repeat this as often as it takes, the arms you pick matter much more when it comes to match-ups. The characters are more of a way to express your playstyle. Want to play straightforward with passive buffs? Spring Man. Jump a lot? Ribbon Girl. Defensive? Master Mummy. Dash a lot? Kid Cobra... you get the idea.
With fighting games I've got a bad habit of sticking to the 2 or 3 fighters I like and never learning any others .With Smash,I'd say about 60% of the cast I never used even once with another 30% a couple of times at most.it was Bowser and Toon Link for the most part with some Wario and Kirby and the occasional Donkey Kong thrown in.I only ever felt confident when using my main 2 though..
With Arms though, all the cast are so unique and interesting,I'm going to make a point of learning them all.Master Mummy's up first.
Also my bad: the 11th character and stage option is NOT an yet-to-be unlocked character, but rather a random option for each selector. One assumes the final boss character will only serve as such, and that the DLC characters will be added in separate ways.
Alright, thoughtstream time. I noticed Min Min has those little white and pink ramen spiral things on her arms (real arms not fake ARMS 'arms') that continue her ramen theme. They are called narutomaki and are the namesake their more popular character counterpart, Naruto.
The fishy food itself is made to resemble the real life Naruto Whirlpools that form in the narrow channel beneath the like-named Naruto bridge. The reason why this is such a revelation to me is because the whirlpools and forming under a bridge area a dead ringer for the Mushroom Bridge track in Mario Kart: Double Dash, and likely their inspiration. I've raced that course probably more than a hundred times, and really wish I had a better picture of it (the pools are even shown in the course fly-over before a race)!
@Frosty_09 Do they actually taste like fish? I don't think I've ever had authentic ramen with those in it. Mostly pho thai places around where I live, and I've never been a big soup fan.

I'll happily play any character in Smash (although I usually stick to a few favourites for 1-on-1 For Glory), but in PokkÊn I've barely used anyone other than Gardevoir. Her playstyle just totally clicks with me. I don't know if I'd enjoy the game that much without her.
Anyway, Master Mummy, huh? I think he'll be fun. He has an incentive to block, so opponents are going want to grab him a lot - thus making them predictable if they're not careful. Mindgames ensue.
@Zyrac Yep Master Mummy appeals to me a lot.I've never been very good at fighting games but with the big guys or monsters,I always feel like I've got a chance. With SF2 it was Blanka,Fighting Vipers was Sanman,Soul Calibur was Asteroth and with Smash,it's Bowser who I feel most confident with.Their power means you're always in fight even when you're getting hammered,a couple of big hits and you're right in back in it.
Some people are unhappy because they feel like, in the quest to keep control parity between single and double joycon button controls, they've made it harder to play.
