Does anyone know if you have to have a 5-star island in order to get a rare mushroom? I've seen at least one place say that you do, but another said it just makes them more common.

You don’t need 5 stars but your chances are increasing. It’s 5% to find one with 5 stars vs. 1% with 4 if I remember correctly. But I have 4 stars myself and found one rare mushroom each of the first two days of november.

@Cosmofantasmo Cool, thanks. I'm pretty sure I have a 4-star (I should probably check to make sure I still do) and just wanted to make sure I didn't have to try to work really hard to get it up to 5-star quickly. Haven't found one yet, but it's only been 2 days, so I've got time.

I just chased a Red King Crab for the last 15 minutes! I couldn’t get ahead of it as I tried so hard to steer it towards the net to catch it. That was a task and a half but I finally caught it. WHEW 😥

@Gret8888 I haven't gotten any yet aside from the one Isabelle gives you initially. 😔 I just never seem to have long enough periods of time to be able to get on there to find the diys and mushrooms 😭😭😭😭😭

@foxyflimflam I only have 2 mushroom DIYs, including the one Isabelle gave me. Those DIYs just aren't coming for me

@Gret8888 Oh great job! I got mine today, too. It's pretty much a matter of herding those fast sea creatures to a corner of the net.

I haven't received any mushroom DIYs during the day, but I've gotten 2 from balloons each night this month (so I have 7 total now, counting Isabelle's). So if you haven't tried it yet, maybe try at nighttime (I've gotten them all fairly quickly after 9 PM).

@Xyphon22 I'll give that a shot. I remember seeing balloons at nighttime. Thanks!

@MarioLover92 Yeah, it's at least worth a try. I also wonder if there is a 2 recipe per day limit. On Monday night Celeste was on my island, so I put on the football game and kept the Switch on in my lap for a couple of hours looking for shooting stars and balloons. I must have shot down over 20 balloons, but the only recipes I got were the first two balloons I shot down. I think I got 5 in a row with 5 iron nuggets, but no more recipes.

@Xyphon22 Oh all right, sounds like you can just get 2 balloon DIYs in a single day. Kinda like how there's a limit to how many star fragments you can get, depending on what conditions you're meeting. Thanks again!

@Gret8888 if you don't press the A button while swimming and only use d-pad you can move closer to Red King Crab or other fast sea creatures without scaring them away. When you dive you will be much closer and be able to catch them easier.
