I started playing Alien Isolation a few weeks back, but with being busy I haven't been able to put a reasonable amount of time into it in one go. Maybe because of this it didn't really grip me to begin with, but it has now!
The atmosphere is immense! The visuals are fantastic (as all the reviews say) and I love the gameplay!
I know I'm a few years late to this, and I expect loads of people on here have already played it, but for anyone who hasn't you need to give it a go!
Not sure how far into it I am, I have just got to a planet to find the source of a signal.
Easily one of the best horror games available on Switch. Kind of a shame the file size is north of 16GB. Basically there's no chance of this ever getting a physical release. (Although, I would be willing to pony up $50 for a physical copy if Sega were ever inclined to make it available.)
I can't believe that video is under 5 hours long (no damage + highest difficulty) - I have been playing for longer than that and I don't think I'm near the end!
Doom Eternal gives me some gope for this and Hellblade. What do you think are the chances Limited Run or Super Rare Games etc would partner with SEGA to release it? At this point it's highly unlikely this gets a general retail release? I can't think of a game which years later had a standard physical...
@MarioBrickLayer Zero hope of Alien Isolation isolation getting a physical release on Switch. I don't believe Sega and LRG have ever collaborated on anything? But there is hope for Hellblade potentially getting a physical release. The Doom Eternal release was made possible because LRG are official Xbox partners.
I finished Alien Isolation and it is excellent, probably the best horror game I have ever played. I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't played it.
@MarioBrickLayer I've been playing Alien Isolation for last couple of days. I have had it since launch and put a fair few hours into it before but got frustrated at the medical facility and gave up. It never really clicked with me. It has now though. I'm back at the medical facility again but I'm past the part that gave me trouble before. Now I'm having to contend with humans as well as the alien. I had a human spot me under a bed, I threw a noise maker in his direction and within 2 seconds, he was then taken out by the alien. It was so satisfying haha. The atmosphere in this game and the tension it creates is second to none. And the graphics are among the best I've seen on Switch. They went big on the anti aliasing, rare for a Switch game, and it makes such a big difference. Flickering jaggy lines would take me out the experience.
As for that playthrough taking only 5 hours. I think I've spent that long in the medical facility alone.
Edit - I just made it out of the medical facility. The escape section was incredible.
I was hiding in a vent, pitch black and scared to leave as I was far from the last save point with no idea where the next one was, having done a lot of work picking up items and closing down 2 stairwells. I knew where I had to go, out the vent to the end of the room, through a door, down 1 set of stairs and through another door that needed unlocking by some method I wasn't sure of yet. This door was probably only 20 metres or so away but if you've played Alien Isolation, you will know 20 metres is a long way. Especially with a hostile Android doing his rounds between the 2 doors and a now seriously pissed off and seemingly smarter than before Xenomorph hunting me down.
Other than the fear keeping me from leaving the vent, I also had the issue of an unexploded pipe bomb laying at the entrance to the door I needed to go through which I had placed there to buy me time while I closed the 2nd stairwell. But the Xeno never come, instead hanging around close by above my head. So I waited in the vent, palms sweating, hoping for it to come through the door, get blasted by the bomb and run off, then I can make a desperate exit.... I hear the thing getting closer and closer, so close I'm scared to put my tracker on. Is it above me, is it below me, I wasn't too sure but it was close and it seemed to know I was close too as it wasn't going away.. For some reason, I took the decision to lift my flame thrower, for a brief moment of light.... and the damn thing was directly in front of me inside the vent. And within a second, I'm dead. I almost threw the controller across the room.
I have never played a game quite like this before. The tension is off the charts.
@OorWullie I'm glad your enjoying it!! You're getting me thinking about another playthrough, I honestly think it's in the top 10 games on the Switch, Digital Foundry say the graphics are better on the Switch than the PS4, and as you say, the game play is superb!!
