It's truly exciting to see Nintendo acknowledge the Wars franchise after 13 years of nothing! However, it's rather disappointing to see that Re-Boot Camp's art style looks less like a $60 first party Nintendo game and more like a free-to-play mobile game.

To be fair, it's not exactly been an eye candy series to date and what we've seen is still a big advance on the likes of BWii.

Visuals don't bother me, I kinda prefer the bright and colored stuff, when they changed styles back then with Days of Ruin it just, I dunno, it was "fine" but I prefer this more.

Anyways...I kinda wished or hope that Dual Strike was in this, maybe we can at least get the characters and mechanics via an update or something. lol (minus the dual maps thing I guess)

I hated the art style at first, but then I heard (or read?) somewhere that the art style was trying to adopt a board game look, complete with plastic pieces and then it clicked for me.

What worries me about the game is that I want decent online multiplayer options, i.e. leaderboards, ranking, ladders, map modes, customization, random matchmaking, etc and I don't think nintendo or the developers are going to do that. I think it will be fun for a few weeks at first, but needs a decent online to have longevity.

I still have a physical copy of wargroove and that whole game was just wasted potential. Feel like I might get burned again with this one.

I fear for this game now with that terrible war going on. I can see Nintendo delaying it again, but for how long? Hmm, if it all takes to long I just postpone my order and order it again at a later date...

@Henmii I can see where you're coming from, but that feels incredibly unlikely, especially considering the type of game that Advance Wars is. It's an extremely cartoonish and lighthearted tactical game. It's nothing dark or disturbing like many other war games are.

Also, I think if they ended up delaying it because of everything going on, they would receive much more backlash from fans than support. I personally don't think they should deprive people of a good experience just because another bad experience is going on in the world.

@JesseA That actually makes a lot of sense, looking at pictures and trailers for it again. I was struggling at first to see exactly what sort of style it was trying to be, but it definitely looks like 3D board game pieces.

I also really hope that this game has some solid online options. However, I could say this is pretty likely, considering that a lot of recent Nintendo games have had surprisingly robust online options. I'll be mostly playing this game by myself so I just hope there's enough single-player content apart from the campaigns to keep me interested.

This is supposed to be a diss, but if a f2p mobile game looks as good, then they spent money to make a good looking game that they hope to get back from enough players spending FAR more than 60 dollars. (that's how f2p games work)

@Henmii maybe something will be delayed, but the original game released on Sept. 10th, 2001 and went on to be a success (in the US).

@Losermagnet This was mentioned earlier in the thread, but I saw in a different thread on here where a user mentioned that it was cancelled in Japan due to 9/11. According to Wikipedia it was delayed for a few months in Europe and never came out in Japan until years later in a compilation.

Just noticed on the NL Home page that Little Orpheus has been delayed indefinitely due to the conflict too - doesn't appear to be war-based or anything like that either, but the main character is Russian.

Nintendo has yet to officially say that the game has been delayed, and if they were to make any announcements regarding doing so I think they’d do it now while the conflict is still ongoing.

@Losermagnet

I didn't know that. I really hope it doesn't get delayed. Gametwo (a german games-show I always watch on youtube) recently scrapped their Warhammer: Total war segment, and that is just fantasy to my knowledge (orcs and stuff). But that is more gritty then Advance wars of course.

@FragRed There's still a month to release, so I guess they'll hold off until they have to ship physical copies to stores - they won't want to cancel/delay too early for the whole thing to be over in a week (unlikely).

@dmcc0 I guess a lot will also depend whether Nintendo wants to pay to keep a couple million (I doubt this game has a mega high initial print run) copies sitting in a warehouse for the foreseeable future. That’s assuming it’s already gone gold and is now being manufactured.

The original Advance Wars wasn't cancelled or pulled off store shelves after 9/11 happened. This case shouldn't be any different.

It happened.

Yeah, just saw that, @Pizzamorg .... I'm honestly a bit surprised but at least now we know

This is definitely unfortunate, and I don't agree with Nintendo's decision, but it doesn't affect me that much because this probably wasn't going to be a day one for me anyways. I liked the originals, but I'll probably wait just a bit to pick this one up whenever it releases.

Well you were spot on about the delay...I'm kinda sad but I do have other games to play in the meantime so I'm not beating myself over it.

Add me on switch if you like Xenoblade :)
