I've got $600 set aside for Switch 2 OLED. Whenever the Big N decide to pull that trigger. I understand it'll be a couple or few years for that mid-gen refresh (2027 perhaps?), but I think it'll be worth the wait. Although I hope we don't get a Switch 2 Lite before the OLED.

Switch Physical Collection - 1,555 games (as of March 31st, 2026)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)

@Magician There's most likely a Lite before OLED comes and even before that will be color themes Switch2 to match Game releases...aka Pokémon, Mario Anniversary and Zelda.... One may think they can afford 600 but make that a family of 4 and you will get a gut punch. No the General Consumer are the one that will bulk at that 600 Switch4 price point. I even had a gut punch getting two Switch2 that plus the games and upgrades add up so it's not just the Switch2 OLED price there alot of other factor the General consumer have to consider here. Not everyone has disposable income right at hand.

Switch 1 was often a "dreams come true" console for its software, and Kirby Air Riders and DK Bonanza being a 3D DK game makes me feel that's continuing and I don't really need to hope that Nintendo will make cool games that interest me and get most 3rd party games worth buying.

So instead my main hope is still that sales fall off after a while and thus the worst pricing decisions don't continue. Ideally less by just giving up on 70 dollar games entirely and more actually having a wider variety of prices for games instead of "full price or nothing" for everything for no good reason.

Biggest hope: Mario Maker 3

With the number 3 in the title it would be such a great chance to add a 3D course maker to it, perhaps with Mario 64 (and probably by extension, 64 DS), Sunshine, Galaxy/Galaxy 2 and Odyssey styles. Maybe the 3D world style can become an actual 3D style…

On the 2D side for it they could add the Mario Wonder style and powerups and also add some missing powerups in NSMBU (ice flower, penguin suit, and Super Crown for Toadette)

That is one digital-only budget game after years of mostly not doing that anymore (to the point of it being weird considering how many were on 3DS) that does not seem like is gonna be successful enough to justify doing more.

It will be interesting to see if Switch 2 can keep up its sales momentum after the initial 'hardcore fans' rush drops off. I feel like the price point for the console and games is high enough that a lot of casual players and parents will be put off buying it for Christmas etc. At least I kind of hope that's the case because I ideally want it to be possible to find some sort of discount on the full-price games before I buy the console, and that's not gonna happen if they keep selling at the rate they are.

And yeah, we don't know the pricing yet for most upcoming games but I'm hoping Nintendo realises there can be a middle ground between budget eShop release and £60-75 retail game.

Have you considered buying used?

When I was younger I always turned my nose up at it: I wanted all my games to be nice and new. But during the Switch gen, I realized how much money I could save by just buying most games used.

Even new games show up used after just a week or two, and if you buy from eBay or Mercari just the cartridge without the case you can save even more.

Haven’t had any issues with used cartridges being damaged or anything, either. They’re pretty sturdy unless someone is just gonna snap it in half lol

@rallydefault Yeah, I've thought about that - I've checked CEX (a big seller of secondhand games in the UK) and so far there isn't really a substantial saving on Switch 2 games compared to buying new, but hopefully there will be once the games have been out a while. My plan at the moment is to wait until there's a special edition Switch 2 I like the look of (one similar to the Animal Crossing Switch would be nice) and then if there are some good discounts or used prices available on first-party games by that point I'll buy it.

Yea, in a few months eBay will be flooded with MK World and Bonanza cartridges that will lop off 20-30 bucks, guaranteed. There are even some used listings for Bonanza right now with the case that are 10 bucks cheaper.

It’s crazy for original Switches games. I searched for Xenoblade Chronicles X, and there are cartridge-only listings for 40 bucks. And older games like Tears are right around that price, too for the cartridge.

@rallydefault I wasn't really expecting many people to be selling Switch 2 games on eBay yet, at least not for much cheaper than a new copy would be, but I've just had a look and yeah there's already a few copies of Mario Kart World for around £10-15 less than RRP. So I'll definitely keep that in mind!

I remember early in the Switch era the physical games were pretty expensive on the whole (there was much talk of 'Switch tax'), but we're at the point now where you can get a lot of them quite cheap (especially compared to Switch 2). Maybe that's another good reason for me to stick with Switch 1 for a while, so I can take advantage of the late-gen gold rush as people sell off their old games, lol.

Oh, for sure. Now is definitely the time that I’m ramping up my collecting for Switch games. We’re in the lull when prices haven’t started skyrocketing on the “old” games yet, so do it while you can!

And it’s just even sweet that they’ll mostly all work on my Switch 2, maybe even with some performance improvements!

Biggest Hope … a new massive Mario Galaxy game .

Close second …. Bring Diddy Kong into the limelight with a AAA game of his own .

@kkslider5552000 Jump rope challenge (I think it’s free), snipperclips, Game Builder Garage (not digital only but considering it’s $30, I count it). It’s pretty scattered, but nintendo still does budget friendly games, not even counting all the indie game that are sold for anywhere from $5-20.

Free game that has the gameplay of a Warioware minigame, 2017 game, 2020 game.

Point still stands, especially considering Switch killed the entire handheld "30-40 is the norm" pricing they had from past handhelds, and they had several download only games on 3DS a year (the system that still had 30-40 dollar games as the norm)

My prediction now is that this is the last Nintendo system I buy and it's because of game key cards. I have two switch 2 games because of this and all the directs are showing me nothing but key cards. I have no games to look forward to except Prime. I have almost 450 hours on the system and while it's not perfect I am now wondering what's the future?

It's bad I don't feel hopeful about anything anymore.

Biggest hope is a clamshell Switch 2 Mini. Around the size of a Switch Lite folded up, with a screen size somewhere between Switch V1 and Switch OLED.
Nintendo can only do this once their System on Chip upgrades to a smaller node, which will take around 2 years. But that will be the perfect time to introduce a handheld-only, cheaper Switch 2 SKU at $399~ for the families still struggling to make the jump.

Switch 2 is around $350 without the dock, I would hope a lite would be around the $300 mark. I don't think $400 would be reasonable but who knows.

Just wait til they give a Switch2 Pokemon theme or Mario 40th theme Switch2 this coming Holiday season. Your not going to find them at all or even scalpers will not get any. A White Switch2 not a bad idea but at 450 that alot for me since I have two Switch2 one which is with another family member who is now states away from where I am at. So I am down to one Switch2 might get a Theme Switch2 but that alot of ugh....$$$$$
