Like most self-respecting Nintendo fans, I owned a GameCube. I took pride in its bombastic purple stylings. I too pretended the handle converted it into a lunchbox, and yet missed the convenience in other consoles for some bizarre reason.

But the library was really impressive. And I played most of the big tent poles, but there was always two I skipped because of the heavy lift of getting two or four friends together with Gameboy advances.

Even back then handheld were genuinely thought of as "for kids", and my friends group was console-only by that point (funny how this has come around and is now considered something desirable by many). I couldn't even consistently get one other friend with a GBA. So I just conceded id never play them. I did not want to experience them missing features either. So Zelda especially hurt, since I never missed a Zelda game.

But then: light! Switch. With camera support and voice support for legacy titles for Gamecube too! For me it is like a chance to have a do over on my elusive white whale.

Now they showed this demo of how Zelda: Four Swords played using this NSO GameCube feature, but to me this means Four Swords Adventure is right on the horizon. A chance to complete my Zelda journey! Anyone else missed this gem during the GameCube gen and eagerly awaits the launch to the service?

Ya know- Four Swords would actually realize it's full potential with NSO on Switch 2. Imagine everyone having their own screen on their own system, playing online.

I'd gladly hop online with 3 others here from the site. Perhaps it's time Triforce Heroes gets a Switch 2 remaster so we can play with Gameshare too.

Oh man I forgot about Triforce Heroes, that'd be GOAT to get to have that with gamechat mode built in. I did actually play that one back in the day but it's a very "forgotten" Zelda game and the one I've replayed least outside of maybe Tears of the Kingdom (sorry too long to replay lol).

I can't wait for other GameCube games -
Chibi Robo
Captain Rainbow (Japan only release ripe for an NSO release)
Doshin the Giant
Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat
Odama

To say nothing of launch wind waker and f-zero gx, one of the greatest arcade racers of all existence!

It will obviously be very welcome. It’s a very good game (I’ve personally got enough of the setup to have played it with 3 - never 4).

@Quantumz00 I’m not sure Captain Rainbow is that ripe for an untranslated release. It’s text heavy as far as I’m aware. Foreign language releases so far have featured very limited Japanese (often plenty of English in the essential menus). We’ve never had “marvellous another treasure island” for the SNES app for instance.

True but my god with just a little extra effort Nintendo can rescue these gems from obscurity!

I have a theory related to this. Later on after the Switch 2 has launched and the system has a decent install base they will release a range of games designed around 2 Nintendo Switches.

Like you said Four Swords Adventures could be one, but also Nintendo Land, Star Fox Zero, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse.

And this will coincide with the launch of Nintendo DS as a new platform on Nintendo Classics.

Why do you think Star Fox Zero would be designed around two Nintendo switches? Been a while since I played that game but I don't remember it's two player elements well...

What about some other rad GameCube games like Eternal Darkness or Star Fox Adventure (I think that's the name? The game with the triceratops buddy). Chibi Robo.. gosh so many possibilities with GC.

Do you not think DS games might be awkward to port to Switch 2 with its dual screen nature and so many games requiring its specific touch screen functionality? 3DS might work better since by that point less games relied purely on touchscreen. link to the past 3ds would be amazing on it.

Wii games too need porting...

@Quantumz00 Star Fox Zero was built around the idea that you could look in one direction and shoot in another in a kind of augmented reality setup. The second screen of the Wii U was integral to the idea.

It had a very mixed reception as a game though and a lot of people didn't seem to think it worked for them. Mostly the consensus was that it was a solution looking for a problem and that the game would have been better made as "Star Fox 64 but with better HD graphics" (admittedly every Star Fox game since Star Fox 64 has suffered the same critique). Personally I can't comment too much more since it's one that I didn't pick up.

Whilst it could be done in theory I think it's probably not the game that justifies Nintendo making all the effort for. Honestly I think the second screen stuff in Pikmin 3 would be a bigger draw and reason for them to use a second Switch for a dual screen setup - it was a far better selling game in a more successful IP and is also a game with more cachet than Star Fox Zero.

You could already, in theory at least, put both screens of a Wii U, DS or 3DS game on the Switch's screen, as separate windows. The problem comes when you need touch controls, which are obviously only available in handheld mode. This would seriously limit the ability to bring such platforms to NSO.

However, if you're able to pair a Switch to the Switch 2 in the dock, you could potentially use that one as the touch screen, while your TV is the main screen. The Wii U could already do this, allowing some DS games to be brought to the Virtual Console on it. With the greater processing power of the Switch 2, the 3DS, and maybe even the Wii U might be possibilities.

That's the sort of setup that I think you'd need to bring Triforce Heroes to the Switch 2, at any rate.

Half the screens touch screen functionality couldn't just be touch sensitive while the other half has nothing you could or should touch? I genuinely don't know, but I never thought in my head it was impossible, just a bit awkward.

Like if you play the port of the DS Castlevania games on switch it splits the screen up. Couldn't some solution like this be found so you would only need one switch? If not I'd still take the switch solution as I own an oled, but i think there must be an easier way to port 3ds or ds games...
