I didn’t see a general discussion for the controller specifically, so I thought I’d create one to start the topic. My question to everyone, has anyone found any good use cases for the GL/GR buttons?
Can you program macros (i.e. commands with more than one button press) into the GL/GR buttons? With other controllers that have similar programmable backbuttons I've used them to trigger macros for oft-used multi-button commands, such as the pulse engine launch in No Man's Sky, which normally requires you to press the L and R buttons simultaneously.
I haven’t really found much use for it yet since I mostly just play Mario Kart, though I did just start playing the new Rune Factory game. So I might end up finding it useful!
I have a question, though! Does anyone else’s Y button feel mushy compared to A/B/X? I know the buttons are meant to be different heights, but the Y button on my Pro Controller 2 feels like it has half the travel distance. For example, B has a more solid “click” when pressed, while Y feels softer or spongier, and it takes way less force to press.
I don’t know if I’m just imagining it and that’s how it’s supposed to be, or if mine might be defective?
@Polvasti Right now, it’s just a single-button replacement for easier access currently (hopefully they expand upon it). They do show up as GL and GR by default, so it’d be interesting if developers could assign their own custom actions to them by default without us having to remap them manually. (For example open map instead of having to go to minus > menu > map making it easier to do sub menu task)
I honestly don't even have a Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller yet. I really want to get one but I have to wait until I have some extra cash. I will probably be buying Donkey Kong Bonanza before I get one though. I have Joy-Cons, a Nintendo Switch 1 Pro Controller, and a Power A controller paired to my Nintendo Switch 2. I have plenty of controller options at this point.

Brandon from Good Vibes Gaming posted a video showing what he had been using it for and how great he found it. It has convinced me to give it a shot, but I haven't done it yet.
I've seen some Mario Kart Youtubers mapping the camera swivel to those new buttons, and it allows them to drift AND look around them at the same time. Pretty cool!
@rallydefault I tried this out and kept accidentally hitting GL way too much. Had to turn it off. Before, I didn’t even notice the button was there or that I was accidentally clicking it (which didn’t do anything anyway). Good idea, tho!
I held out two whole weeks on getting one of these, and... I should have caved sooner. What an awesome controller. It just feels like it was crafted in the heavens.
It's ever so slightly sleeker than the original pro controller (less bulky), the sticks feel a MILLION times smoother in their travel, the button presses are crisp and tactile. It's so good. I see what people were talking about now.
The GL/GR buttons, though, can easily be pressed/held down by accident. I'm keeping them unmapped for now and most likely forever lol
I'll pick it up when it's readily available and I find myself at the shops, I'm not going to hunt it down. Thus far it was sold out before I picked up my Switch 2 on day 1. Second shipment seems like came through this week on Monday, was sold out by Thursday
So I probably get it sometime next month. Which works for me because I can put it in the "July additional expenses" bucket which has a bit more give. At least now in mid June it does anyways
