Where the heck are you getting that number? It’s definitely under 50 at this point, but 5 seems farcical.
Very much depends on how you count it. Nintendo sales are, globally, 54.6% digital at the moment according to Nintendo, at least in terms of revenue. Similarly, Sony reported 85% digital. I couldn't find a recent xbox statement, but there were reports that is was 90% a couple years ago. So, overall for consoles, it's 75%+; over 80% according to some sources.
Then you add in PC gaming which is near 100% digital and is a somewhat larger market than console gaming; that definitely gets you to 90%+ digital for PC and consoles combined. If you count mobile gaming (which is essentially half of worldwide gaming revenue and is all digital), you most likely get to 95%+ digital.
That was globally, not UK specific like BonzoBanana was quoting.
For UK, vgchartz has a recent (jan 2026) 5% digital estimate:
"Physical game sales account for around five percent of the total UK revenue." Note that that was counting mobile and PC.
