I've veered away from Twitter, but Grumble's commentary has lured me back in tonight. Just went to the search page and I saw 'Iwata' was trending in the UK. My heart fluttered for a moment - wouldn't particularly expect to see Iwata getting much prominence in the UK at this point in time, unless... unless there's just been an announcement and somehow Iwata's legacy is linked... - clicked the link - turns out Tomoki Iwata has scored for Birmingham City against Shrewsbury in the mighty Bristol Street Motors Trophy.
I need a distraction.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
@gcunit I did a double take when I saw a correspondent for The Daily Show named Troy Iwata. But yeah, just looked it up and neither of them seem to have any relation to Satoru Iwata.
Many here (and on internet) ignores all those current events on the earth. I would be silly to reveal "Switch 2" this so soon when there're so many crisis on many countries around the world today.
It won't be revealed during this year, it will occur during jan-feb 2025 when those events hopefully calmed down a bit, or not. It will be released during july-sep 2025 with a price-tag of $350 or $400 and not more. Nintendo aren't Sony or Microsoft. It will be affordable and just being 2.5x more powerful (so around 1Tflops to 1.1Tflops) than Switch with 850p-900p screen which also is slightly bigger than Switch OLED. Plus 7GB or 9GB RAM.
Just don't forget that Switch was going to have just 2GB until Capcom begged for 4GB.
@Keman The events that are ongoing in the world right now aren't going to end any time soon. The only time Nintendo really held back any new announcements or information was mainly when the Queen of England died (for the UK version of the TotK trailer name direct) and that one time where Advance Wars got delayed- along with Pokemon having the tweet announcing the presents not get dropped in the US and the presents just being shadowdropped instead.
Companies aren't just going to stop revealing new things just because a war is breaking out in the Middle East. As awful as it is, wars have been constantly and consistently ongoing for a while now and if Nintendo held back every time conflict happened nothing would get revealed.
Usually natural weather disasters also don't really impact announcements, unless it so happens to be that the announcement either has to do with the weather or Japan was hit by said weather.
Then with the election, Nintendo isn't really competing with the election at all.
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
@Keman
There are always world events just like there are always software releases and holidays. If they avoid all of them they'll never announce anything
Outside of specific examples like not airing the Direct for Tears of the Kingdom in the UK just after the Queen died or delaying Advance Wars after the Russian invasion of Ukraine I don't see it. And those examples were, frankly, a bit on the nose in terms of content in those contexts. I don't see how new hardware would be anything close to that
I mean the Switch was announced pretty much on-top of the 2016 US presidential election and on the date that Mario Party Star Rush released in Japan (and not far off for other regions)
@Sigran102 The lack of any leaks from credible sources, and the fact there’s been nothing since the reported factory floor leak suggests there’s nothing coming soon. Personally think it’ll be February or March.

Considering earlier today the Japanese Splatoon account and the Nintendo accounts outside NA announced a Splatfest (Splatoween), it's a safe guess that the 2pm UK time tweet would be the Splatoon NA account announcing the Splatfest.
@FragRed They announced after Grand Fest ended that they were doing the seasonal Splatfests again (Splatoween, FrostyFest, SpringFest, Summer Nights) but until today it was unknown whether they would be identical or different themes.
Splatoween 2023 was "Which would be the best friend?" with options being Zombie vs. Skeleton vs. Ghost
Splatoween 2024 is "What would you be in a fantasy world?" with options being Wizard vs. Knight vs. Ninja
The redeemable gear via the Switch news section is also different this time.
@Grumblevolcano Ah I didn’t know that. And that tweet at 2pm certainly makes today a no go for Switch 2 announcements. To me today was the last possible day to make that announcement too until February.
I was just scrolling through the posts made in the main Switch thread from around August-October 2016. The discussions points are more or less the same as what we're having now
A few things I noticed, firstly somehow I was MORE argumentative back then than I am now if you can believe such a thing. There's also a post from @Grumblevolcano in early October pointing to a livestream for the NES Classic which people took to mean that October was now done (reveal trailer was October 20th). Also we weren't entirely sure what the Switch was yet however apparently we knew it was releasing in March by this point. Not entirely sure how
...... but even though we apparently knew the release date and we were closing in on mid-October there were still people talking about announcements in January. We've been here before basically
@skywake Nintendo announced via the fiscal year meeting in April 2016 that NX was releasing in March 2017 and that BotW was a simultaneous Wii U/NX release.
