@Pastellioli As you say, but there was no big NSO or N64 news. I think this will be saved for October perhaps, they will be spreading out what's left of the Switch news now to last up until the new year.
We may get a 5 minutes NSO trailer showing a couple of N64 games plus a Megadrive/GBA update too.
@BANJO True, I wouldn’t be surprised if that is the plan they have for NSO, cuz I would imagine Nintendo wants to put out a lot of games and content throughout the year for the Switch, since they are preparing for the next console and want to probably have lots of content for people to play on the Switch in the meantime. I see what they are doing is kind of a way to give the Switch some pretty strong final years before it’s discontinued.
I think that them instantly dropping a bunch of NSO content would probably result in a lot of people wanting more content when a lot of time passes since then. October does sound like the right time for it. I would predict September or October like you said.
The most interesting game they showed was Morsels. I loved the psychedelic look of it and the aesthetic. Unfortunately nothing else interested me, but the rest looked cool! Ending the Partner direct on Yakuza was the best choice they made.
That Direct was really solid. The time between Echoes of Wisdom and the end of November is insanely packed for Switch. Will need to make decisions about what to get day 1 and what to get later on.
The biggest highlight for me was the Castlevania collection, it's really nice that the DS games were saved.
@Grumblevolcano kind of dull for me but regarding castlevania, same for me. Definitely the highlight. I intend to get castlevania Friday and play through at least the first game before echoes. Might even grab plucky squire before then too.
Castlevania DS Collection was my #1 remake/remaster wish, and SF Alpha 3 + SNK vs Capcom 2 were also high up there. So yeah, I'm super satisfied right now, but I have to assume most people aren't.
Okay so... I'm trying to figure out Nintendo's schedule here. We have one January game announced, and two floating titles (Z-A, based on the TCG coming 2nd half, and Prime 4) and that's it for 2025. It's unlikely we'll get any further OG Switch titles announced until February... so are we getting a Switch 2 reveal soon? Will they just stop releasing OG Switch software monthly in 2025?
I can't rule out a September / October reveal into March release again for this system, with the lack of a February game made up for by multiple titles releasing in March. I'd thought it was unlikely but recent events feel like that's where we're going.
@link3710 The fact that they compressed every side-game and event into 3 directs at the end up August really points to making room for a Switch 2 announcement soon. It also points to the next games direct (whenever it is) being pretty first party focused, presumably with both Switch 2 and Switch 1 stuff.
September-October reveal with a April-June release and a Sept-January direct featuring some more games is feeling likely.
That said, it wouldn't shock me if we get another random 2024 game dropped outside of a direct like we did with Emio.
@Novamii Well given Nintendo's bizarre use of numbers (Pikmin 4 was clearly a reboot of the series), I highly doubt anything from Prime 2/3 will matter for 4 in the slightest.
I will say the indie show was probably the best one in a while simply by focusing on games that stand out and are interesting to me and I remember after its over. But part of that is it relied a lot more on established games, because as I think I've said last time, unless a game really stands out its hard to pay attention to the 500th cool indie game you'll likely not hear a lot from after this unless its particularly special looking.
Best example of this is that sequels to two favorite indie games of mine released practically back to back recently, and it feels like most people did not notice despite being sequels to fairly beloved games whose past games were reliably released on Nintendo platforms.
Yeah, now that I look at it, this Direct didn’t really have any games in it leaked. The only ones that I think were hinted at appearing was Worms: Armageddon and Epic Mickey, though no “leaker” ever leaked or spread rumors of it appearing, cuz Worms was hinted at existing via an ESRB rating and Epic Mickey was hinted at by the developers or publisher. It is nice that the contents didn’t spill out, I pretty much have found myself sorta disliking leaks now, mostly from their intention.
The indie showcase was definitely the better of the two. The only problem with the indie stuff on the Switch is that there's so much content already I don't know how many of these stand out. Already interested in Plucky Squire and Morsels looked nice but I can't see myself remembering any of the others let alone picking them up..... although Pizza Tower does scratch that Wario Land itch so there's that
I think the biggest surprise for me in the Direct was Tetris. Not because it existing was a surprised but more that I wasn't at all aware that NES Tetris wasn't on NSO yet. Which probably says more about how often I open up the NES NSO app (i.e. pretty much never) than it does about anything else. I play NES on one of those Chinese portable emulators, and NES Tetris is one of the first ROMs you throw on those devices
Speaking of NSO, where are the reasons for me to resub to NSO? I know it was a partner direct not a general direct but still, there hasn't been much along those lines throw our way for a while. And if September is the month for Switch 2 then we're running out of time before the great October renewal flood. At this part I'm half expecting them to just shadow drop Pokemon on NSO or something as a standalone thing
