Yea, when you do the cups in the GP like that, you'll do the highways in between the tracks.

Now, this is where my opinion differs from many others': I like SOME of the highways. Not all of them are bad, and a few of them have some cool stuff, actually. And some of the tracks at the end of highways are still the full course, like Mario GP, DK Spaceport, and Rainbow Road.

@rallydefault My kid told me the tracks do get better as you go along. I've only done the first 2 cups, I like going in order, so I do think they'll get better. The roads so far have all been mostly dirt and blacktop roads, which does make sense b/c they're roads, but kinda slow and boring playing on 50cc. I don't mind the roads as much as then only doing 1 lap at the end, there should always be 3 laps at the end to race. Can't figure out shortcuts in 1 lap. OK just twice if they want the road in between to count as the first lap.

Same thing kinda happened with Odyssey. Sure it's a fine game unto itself, but I like the 2 Galaxy games so much more. I'll probably come around to MKW but I think Wii will always be my favorite, it just popped. And it was 20 years ago, a lot of gaming since. Not everything can be better. Oh well. There's always free roam, looking forward to wasting time with that, after DKB. I can only handle one collectathon at a time.

I agree with you about Odyssey. I also like Odyssey. The gameplay and atmosphere is good. Even so, the Galaxy games are more magical and more about platforming and parcour. Bananza is also a fun game, but I actually prefer the older games, because they have more platforming, better music and atmosphere.

@Jhena You're one of the few people I've seen agree with me about the Galaxy games, most people seem to prefer Odyssey. Magical is a good way to put it.

I'm not really a fan of most of the old Donkey Kong games, a little to difficult for me, so I'm looking forward to just running around and smashing and collecting stuff in Bananza. Never played DK64 so I don't have that as a reference point.

True, old Donkey Kong games can be quite challenging. Bananza is more on the easy side, especially if you do not try to go for 100%. Since you are looking forward to smashing and collecting stuff, I think you should have a great time.

the animal rights group pushing for nintendo to remove cow’s nose ring is so ridiculous (but funny) in my opinion. i get and respect the thought, but also its not like all the farmers screaming at their switch 2s are going to be influenced into putting uncomfortable nose rings on their cows. also maybe Cow CHOSE to get that nose ring. its not like cataquack dragged him to get it pierced at the tattoo shop

Yeah, PETA is just stupid in general. They can share their opinions all they like, but hopefully Nintendo doesn't listen to them and get them on their high horse any more than they already are.

Recently got this and I think I barely put three hours in because I also have Bananza but..

Something about the controls feels INCREDIBLY off (to avoid saying bad..) to me. Yes, I turned smart steering off. First thing I did in the game.

I think it's more rigid than other games in the series, it feels weighty without hitting that sweet spot to make it also kind of satisfying to me. Maybe I just need to figure out how to take advantage of those trick jumps onto walls and rails, those feel like they make you slower at the point I'm at rn, which can't be right.. Right?

I'll also parrot the general complaints about too many racers. I also figured it'd make things more interesting but it's definitely worse in every way but allowing...more people to race each other at once. Feels like a change for the sake of it, not something that was extensively tested.

Which is also what I feel about free roaming. Again, it might be not being used to the controls, it might just be me picking the wrong kart/character combination (tried cow, peach, king boo and DK so far) but it feels hella finicky and neither drifting nor braking seems to help make moving around feel more precise. Feels like threading a needle with thick gloves on.

I like the World design, the tracks seem nice so far, the music is AMAZING - like, legitimately seems like it could be one of THE best soundtracks in Nintendo history because pretty much every new arrangement of classic music just hits all the right notes, pun very much intended, insanely high quality stuff all around.

I just don't seem to "get" the controls, or rather, what the game wants you to do WITH the controls so far.

Which is a very long winded and very whiny way to say... Any of y'all got some pointers for me what to try to get into the game at all for now?

Yea, learning how to do the charge jump for railings and walls is a big gap to “getting” the controls in my opinion. I think my first 10 hours were frustrating with learning the timing, how to stick the wall rides, what sorts of jumps I could do off the walls and railings, etc. Free roam helped me a lot with that, actually. Just chilling and doing some missions.

I also think the weight classes in this game are more pronounced. Like, Bowser feels HEAVY this time around, whereas Koopa troopa, biddy bug, etc. feel very nimble and light. The disparity in feeling is more pronounced than in MK8, in my opinion.

The PETA cow nose ring thing is pretty funny. I'm not as hard on PETA as most, but they do stupid stuff like this way too often. It's a cartoon cow driving a cartoon car. The end. 😂

I'm enjoying the game a little more now. No Joycon, just Faux Pro, and the tracks, even the roads between the tracks, have gotten progressively better. I think some of these will be a challenge at 150cc. I have 1 cup left at 50cc then I'll start all over again at 100, then 150. Then maybe knockout. I don't have NO so I'm limited. Good to know free roam is still there waiting.

@Croctopus good job on getting 100%, even with guides it must be a difficult task. i will agree that the online is pretty irritating, hopefully futures updates will patch things up and bring us some good chunks of dlc. with the recent kirby air riders gameplay its almost impossible to focus on mario kart world! whole game looks like such a blast. and yes, we NEED the MKW soundtrack on nintendo music. one thing this era of nintendo is not lacking in is MUSIC.

Cool, I beat every time trial challenge. It was fun and easier than the time trials in 8 Deluxe. Now the only thing I am missing are the stickers for money, stunts and so on.

-I expect to see DK characters including Teen Pauline, diddy and cranky and dixie, and some of the villains. and three new cart editions (minecart, rambi, and banana?) i would be very pleased with this!!
-I want to see DK obviously, but a DK island would be a blast. i also would love to see Wonder, Odyssey (where is CAPPY!) and 3D World characters(id die to play as Cat).
-Wildest dreams are a forgiveness update for forgetting Ninji. I’m talking a playable Ninji, several costumes, and a Ninji Island.
-I dont necessarily want to see a price tag on updates, and nor just plain costumes.

I loved all the verticality of MK8D, I hate that so much of that was lost in MKW.
