@Bigmanfan All good! I tend to be a bit more deadpan as well, but I wasn't totally sure lol. Sorry for misunderstanding. And yeah, the Routes aren't amazing (even if I find them fairly fun personally) but my nerdy self will continue to be annoyed by the incorrect use of Intermissions in reference to them!

@CaleBoi25 Yeah, in all seriousness I totally get the annoyance at the wrong terminology.

I just call them highways. Most of them aren’t really highways, but whatever.

They’re not all bad. Most of them are, but quite a few have some nice twists. People who just write them off altogether strike me as people who haven’t actually played the game all that much.

@CaleBoi25 I AGREE WITH THIS TOO. like why are yall complaining this is literally shown in the trailers 😔 “intermissions” also just give them disrespect, i almost have more fun with them since its not repetitive! if you actually look around the game you can see they were built with a lot of love and care. routes route routes!

BRING NINJI INTO MARIO KART WORLD RIGHT NOW.

I can't believe people actually like straight lines smh.

@CaleBoi25 Tbf, I wasn't talking about anyone in particular. Just a general statement of disappointment.

And that's what makes me think you don't actually play them. They're not all straight lines. That's an internet thing.

Hard to believe, that I payed 90€ for the game. I will not buy new Nintendo games for the foreseeable future, if this is how Nintendo wants to operate now.

I didn’t even get to see what @Bigmanfan said! And I didn’t attack him personally or say anything inappropriate other than accusing them of knowingly lying.

The moderation here is getting out of control. People are allowed to disagree and speak their points.

Bigmanfan

@rallydefault Yeah, I'm not typically one to complain about moderation, but I'm not sure what in my post was bad enough to get it taken down. I had no issues with your post either from a content standpoint. I get not wanting a toxic environment, but it's starting to make it hard to have a discussion.

I wish the extreme cheating CPUs from launch were added back as a bonus difficulty.

In Canada Mario Kart World physical copy is $109.99…

I call them “intermissions” because they take place in between the tracks. A “route” would include the one lap I play on the course itself.
And they’re not all straight lines. Some of them actually have like two or three turns in them!

If I was to be more fair, I’d say that some of the tracks that have split paths do some work to prevent bagging, and the references to other Mario Kart tracks add enough turns to be engaging, but they are nowhere near as well thought out as the actual tracks in terms of memorable or challenging design, which has what has given them the “all straight line” label.

That is just brutal, sorry to hear that. I would definitely not pay that much money for new Nintendo games. Just not worth it.

About the intermission tracks, there are more than enough roads, which are more or less straight lines. I think people who enjoy a classic Mario Kart experience are allowed to insult, what mostly feels like low effort tracks, as "straight lines".

I disagree. When you step back and look at this game, it's insane how much effort they put into it. They created not only 24 (I think that's the right number, sorry if I'm off) tracks, but an entire world that connects them. (A world that is full of challenges and coins and stuff to collect.)

Many of the highways and connections follow straight lines, but many do not. Many of the highways have obstacles and turns, some have mechanics that can be used like bridges and rails and water and flying and ramps and enemies. Some do not.

I think it's an impressive game that I will continue to play from time to time for this entire generation. The gameplay core is WAY more fun than MK 8, and the skill ceiling is higher for those who want to challenge themselves. The physics of getting hit by items and cars and stuff are less punishing and more fun in races, and the animations and graphics are really good.

It's no secret that I think the ways people judge games are arcane at best and unserious at worst, but in my opinion this game has already been worth its price to me.
