I bought Skyrim Anniversary Edtion for Switch 2 on eshop assuming I could also play it on my S1/OLED. It appears that's not exactly the case. On my OLED, eshop will only let me install standard Skyrim. If I go to the DLC page, it has an option to go to virtual card page, the virtual game card page opens & shows the game and dlc VGCs, but the ability to load the DLC's virtual game card is grayed out. (In case region is a factor, it's US)

Can anyone else confirm this or correct me?

Kinda seems deceptive that switch 1 anniversary edition gets a free upgrade to switch 2, but it doesn't allow me to access switch 1 version with it's anniversary edition dlc.

Edit: The answer seems to be that if you buy Switch 2 version of Skyrim Anniversary Edtion on eshop, it's technically switch 1 skyrim game, and the Anniversary Edition DLC is a switch 2 version, and that Switch 2 DLC is not compatible with switch 1. That's not too surprising, since that's how other switch 1 games have gotten their switch 2 upgrade - they got it via dlc.

So, if you want Switch 1 + Switch 2 upgrade for free, that only works if you buy buy switch 1's Skyrim Anniversary Edition. If you buy the switch 2 anniversary edtion, you'll only get standard Skyrim for switch 1. It's still better than nothing. Just be aware.

I could be wrong here but I think if you buy the Switch 1 Skyrim Anniversary then you can upgrade to Switch 2 version for free if you upgrade through the Skyrim 1 anniversary version while playing on Switch 2 so in that instance you get both versions but if you just buy the Switch 2 version of Anniversary then you don't have access to Skyrim Anniversary on Switch 1. I bought the Skyrim cartridge for around £30 then upgraded to Skyrim 1 Anniversary for £10.79 and then upgraded the version to Switch 2 for free. However what I didn't realise was I still have access to the original Skyrim on Switch 1 as a virtual cartridge. I sold on my cartridge for the same money I paid for it minus maybe £2 (postage costs) and now have access to Skyrim Switch 1 on Switch 2 in portable mode and docked portable mode plus I have Anniversary for both Switch consoles. I have not tried Skyrim on my Switch lite though but assume I will still have access to Skyrim 1 and Skyrim Anniversary on that console. So very pleased with my £10.79 purchase. I'm not sure why Bethesda allowed continued access to Skyrim 1 or allowed Skyrim Anniversary to be played without the Skyrim cartridge present but very pleased they have. Very generous of them on this rare occasion.

@WoomyNNYes : If you are able to contact Nintendo Support, they might be able to add the Switch 1 version to your account.

@SillyG I got a lower tier nintendo support rep that couldn't really answer my question. They just said that the Switch 2 Anniversary edition is not compatible with switch 1. They could not confirm that it would give me standard Skyrim for switch 1 (which is what it did). I just wanted to make sure I wasn't making a mistake.

Elsewhere, someone else said, it seems the Switch 2 Anniversary Edition DLC is not compatible with switch 1. And that's why I only get standard Skyrim on switch 1.

Skyrim Anniversary is available on Switch 1, that is what I purchased and from within it you can upgrade to Switch 2 version for free if you run the Switch 1 version of Anniversary on Switch 2. I think you purchased the Switch 2 version directly so don't have access to the Switch 1 version. There is definitely a version of Anniversary that runs on Switch 1 but of course doesn't run as well as the Switch 2 version.
