Honestly I could dunk on this forever, its so inherently absurd on the most basic of premises.
It's like saying the original release of the Xbox 360 was like the Atari Jaguar CD because it kept breaking. Which is potentially still a way better comparison than the one here, since you at least understand how I got from point A to point B.
Nintendo fans are insane...
They clamored after a new Nintendo console for years and now they're so disappointed and disgruntled.
SW2 is a tremendous upgrade over SW, 10x more powerful according to Nvidia themselves, I can confirm that it's true.
It's like to jumping from N64 to Gamecube, or PS2 to PS3, almost! And now I sees some unreal comments about SW2 being too powerful now!
Nintendo fans are impossible to please. You won't sees this negativity amongst PS, Steam Deck or Xbox fans. I legit believes that many of those "Nintendo haters" are actually paid trolls or something alike. It were a big discussion about this matter on another Nintendo site for 4-5 years ago.
It's still not even 3 months sine the launch. SW2 will 100% have so much more exclusive and first-party games already on the next year compared with PS5 and Xbox Series, since Naughty Dogs has still NOT released a PS5 game yet! Yet it's still this is not enough for many so called "Nintendo fans". It's impossible to please them... It's always something wrong with Nintendo no matter of what.
I still finds Nintendo's weird treatment surrounding that SW2 dev kits situation beyond baffling and of course with that game key farce too, I won't denying about it. Still Nintendo does so much more good things than bad ones.
Just wait until the FIRST real general direct with Switch 2 and then see what happens then. It's way too early to writing off SW2 now, waaaaay to early! Have a patience.
@Keman, I kind of agree with you, some people are a little impatient. As a Nintendo fan, I think that most of the stuff involving the Switch 2 is really cool stuff, and a lot of my issues with it have already been resolved (for example, the "Nintendo will brick your console for modding it" controversy, I eventually learned that it was way too overblown and nothing is changing involving that, so my fears involving that were laid to rest). There are only four things, one of which is a rather uncommon complaint and another involves my present living situation, about the Switch 2 that are keeping me undecided about whether I'm getting one in the future or not, though I definitely want a Switch 2 eventually a lot more after seeing the Kirby Air Riders Direct 😃.
My top 5 favorite games:
1: Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1
2: Pokémon Violet
3: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
4: The Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening (2019)
5: Animal Crossing New Horizons
Mario Maker 2 Maker ID: MNH-8JB-PKG
Switch Username: Blanc

Worth remembering that there are different people. For example I had been disappointed with where the Switch was for years and wanted a new console. We got it and it's exactly what I thought they should have done
There were others still who complained about the speculation threads and said Switch was fine. Some of those people now recognise the value of the hardware upgrade and are on board. Some do not and are now complaining on threads such as this
Then there's the fourth group who did complain about Switch and did say it needed to upgrade. But they did so because they actually just don't like Nintendo and their platforms for one reason or another. Obviously no new hardware would make these people happy so they'll just invent new reasons to complain
They must exist because the Internet was covered with them insulting Switch 2 and saying how much better xbox was a few months back. So yeah, totally positive community over with xbox...
I'd have thought that the Xbox fans have been too busy dunking on Microsoft of late to be bothering with anyone else.
As a Game Pass subscriber myself, I'm perpetually weighing up whether to jump ship with every price rise and dilution of content. Still, it has to be said that it's had a pretty good year so far for getting quality games on day one.
On topic: Saw a video yesterday in which the guy commented on the supposed lack of games for Switch 2 and how he had to cut his list down because there are just too many new games coming (down from 35 to 15 games he's excited for in 2025) …
I'm pretty much caught in a neverending cycle of waiting regarding Switch 2. Switch 2 was a no-go until I had acquired the express card I needed which I finally got the 1TB express card in August, however at that point in time the console by itself was impossible to find (Nintendo flooded the market with MK bundles but barely made any standalone consoles after DK launched in mid July). But I'm choosing to focus on the positives of this waiting cycle rather than the negatives, I managed to play some really fun Switch 1 games and physical MK World price dropped enough that my preferred outcome of physical MK World became a reality.

I mean, wii u wasnt even a bad console, it just didnt sell as well. And given that Switch 2 is like the fastest selling console in Japan or whatever, it is by no means 'Switch U'

Hello. This is Toriel. For no particular reason... Which do you prefer? Butterscotch or Cinnamon? - Toriel
I still loved my original Switch and wasn't exactly thrilled with the first reveal and early previews and stuff for this one.
Now I love it. It's an upgrade machine. It's a "big game" machine. It has its place for sure in this general Switch ecosystem thing that will probably exist for a couple more years until most devs have well and truly migrated to only the Switch 2 platform.
Sales or success wise the comparison doesn't hold up at all. Neither does it in terms of concepts, as the Wii U was a drastic departure from the Wii whereas Switch 2 is very iterative over Switch 1.
That said, S2 is a bit underwhelming so far, and the reliance on backwards compatibility rubs me the wrong way too.

All this will be solved in time which is why many wait until buying. A year from now the hardware will be better, the firmware will be better, there will be more Switch 2 games, pricing will be more competitive etc. I bought the wii u early and loved it but I feel I was 3x happier with it about a year in. Yes it failed commercially but many amazing games appeared for it. If I'd waited the year of course it would have been cheaper. I was picking up third party titles for as low as 2.99 a few years in so its commercial failure was actually a huge positive for my wallet.
There are always disappointments for early adopters but normally they are turned around in a year or so.
After this Direct I am seeing one potential similarity with the Wii U, we're starting to feel Wii U-esque game droughts. They're being a bit better about filling in the gaps with ports and remakes, but as far as the main events, the actual, new games in popular IPs, they've been very sparse. The Switch 2's jump in performance feels like it's just erased all of the good combining their handheld and home console divisions gave them in terms of improving their output.
