I really like this addition. Having a charging port on the top of the Switch 2 makes charging while playing in bed a little less precarious. Currently, if I have to charge while playing in handheld mode in bed, I have to lay on my side. I don't want to run the risk of breaking that fragile usb-c port.
Now I can go full Snorlax mode without worry.
Thanks, Nintendo.
Edit: P.S. The addition of a second usb-c port also allows a "usb-c to hdmi while charging in handheld mode" setup. Nintendo branded USB-C to HDMI converter accessory confirmed?
The more ports the better and now we are getting people saying we have a mic as well but I don't see camera options or did they not show that and covered up that option? I can with some login that someone will be hard at work to make that hardware work. It's a money maker for whom gets it out first to the Switch 2. I wonder if a device for usb-c Lan gaming would happen as well for Wired Lan partys.
@Magician
yeah i love me some bed handheld, its how i do most of my serious gaming especially with RPGs and was not a fan of the charger cable sticking out of the bottom on the original switch (vita had a similar problem)
I think those ports will charge and communicate that what's USB-C are currently doing so not sure why one would diss the Switch 2 because it has USB-C ports. And I think it will have more functions on the USB-C ports.
Thank fook, I still consider it one of the weirdest decisions with the original Switch. I mean, let’s put a stand on it so you can slap it on a table, detach the controllers for multiplayer and promote it as a way to play games away from home…. With crap(ish) battery life. Yeah, nobody is ever going to need to charge the damn thing while they’re using it like that.
So, a very welcome change this time around.

Maybe the top USB-C port will also allow for other accessories to be connected.
One I was thinking is a potential dual screen attachment (based on that one dual-screen patent from 2023) for if they keep rereleasing DS and 3DS games and/or bring those over to Nintendo Switch Online. I was thinking something like the Steam Deck DNA Duo or something similar.
Did you notice that the Steam Deck DNA Duo costs > $200? A dual screen setup seems unlikely at first glance because of 1) the price and 2) because of problem 1, game support for dual screens will be minimal.
One way that a dual screen system might be more viable is some speculation I saw elsewhere: that you can attach your existing Switch 1 to that port as a second screen. The advantage of that approach is that for the numerous existing Switch 1 owners out there, they already have that second screen for free and don't need to spend more.
@cwong15 Although one downside if going that way is people who only have a Switch 2 and get the dual screen accessory are gonna have to pay even more to actually get the Switch screen. Not sure if it’s gonna be a big issue or not tho.
My feeling is that this second screen speculation remains highly unlikely. Anything that does not ship in the Switch 2 box is not going to get the kind of universal game support it needs to be a thing. Unless Nintendo somehow invents a gameplay convention where a second screen is optional, I can't see this happening.
Though unlikely, the Switch 1 as a second screen idea is pretty cool as speculation. The market is already full of Switch 1 units. And for the others, it gives people an excuse to buy a Switch 1 during the gap between the Switch 2 reveal and its availability. "Well, buying a Switch 1 is not a waste because I'll be able to use it as a Switch 2 accessory, and all the games I buy now will run even better!".
