Topic: Trouble With Transferring Screenshots/Videos

Hey everyone,
So I maxed out the capacity on my Switch when it comes to videos that can be put onto it and decided to finally try and transfer them from my Switch to my Acer Chromebook. However, after getting the two connected without a hitch, I've struck a problem: whenever I click on a video or screenshot, it says there's nothing to download. I even tried dragging a video file and all I got was a 'this file is empty' message. Is there something I'm doing wrong here? I have the two connected by the USB, I have the files on my computer, it just refuses to show what the files are. If anyone who has a possible solution could reply to this ASAP, I'd very much appreciate it. Thank you and have a wonderful day.

In the switch menu, there's an option to transfer pictures and videos via usb, once you select that, the switch gallery folder becomes accessible as a drive on your computer.

Edit: go like this:

Settings -> Data Management -> Manage Screenshots and Videos -> Copy to a Computer via USB Connection

@Eel That's what I did (even followed NLife's guide to a tee) and when I click on the files on my chromebook, it just says there's nothing there (no image or video pops up even when I drag it).

@Fizza could it be the fact you're using a chromebook? Perhaps with that it would be preferable to use the "transfer to smartphone" option.

(or using the SD card on its own)

@Eel That's probably what I'm going to have to do yeah. My dad's clearing out his old phone so I'll try using that once he's done with it.

I just tested the phone method and it worked like a charm. The quality of both the sound and video isn't lost, it's a straightforward (if long) process and I even managed to download them to my chromebook via email attachments! Still don't know why it wouldn't just work with the chromebook itself but a win is a win. All my favourite video game moments in one place..... it's beautiful I tell you.

Hey, congrats that you got that working.
This also happened to a friend of mine, not really sure what the problem was, but it was most probably because of the chromebook...

I'm not sure what model of chromebook you have and if it has normal USB ports or USB-C, but since you mentioned it was slow, next time you could try a SD card reader, it looks like this one below.

Just search for a "SD card reader USB" or something along those lines depending on what compatible hardware you have.

My friend uses something like this for transfering between his switch and chromebook, which has a normal USB port, and it's waaaay faster. ๐Ÿ˜

also question, why'd you have to utilize it via email attachments? just curious. ๐Ÿ˜€

@markmarkmark Thanks for the suggestion! I don't need it at the moment since the phone still takes care of everything just fine but I'll definitely consider it!

As for your question regarding emailing, the phone I have is more like a tablet since it doesn't have a SIM card due to it being a hand me down. It can connect to the Chromebook through a Google account but anything downloaded on it doesn't pop up on my Chromebook if that makes any sense

ahhh, those kinds of older tablets with no SIM slot, the ones that are WiFi and bluetooth only. ๐Ÿ˜…

Oh well, that'll still serve a purpose somehow. also yeah, that's just a bit of weird behavior that anything downloaded doesn't show up, unless it's connected to email/google drive, etc. ๐Ÿค”

I guess that's one of the many quirks of owning and using Chromebooks, it doesn't function exactly like other computers, as most of it "lives" in the cloud. ๐Ÿ˜…
