We all know about the infamous «Joy-Con Drift», but I read stories allover the web that this piece of hardware is not only troubled by that. This thread is to collect our stories and share troubleshooting experiences concerning flaws with the expensive and unreliable Nintendo Switch controllers. May we offer each other consolation in frustrating times.

Allow me to make the first contribution as I experience a new bug. It happened twice this week.

In-game, suddenly the right Joy-Con stops responding. Yesterday it happened while re-equipping my Octopath Traveller team, so I can't say I was overexerting them or physically damaging in any way. The weird part is that all buttons seemed to non-respond, except for the home button. Then as the icing on the cake, in the home menu I was able to use all buttons again. I switched to Smash Bros only to find out that the buttons stopped working again in-game.

I tried reconnecting, callibrating (is this the word?) but eventually the solution was to restart the Switch system itself. Earlier this week same thing happened which made me force-close my games twice now, losing progress.

My Joy-Cons were repaired earlier this year to mend it from the Drift. It bums me out that I'll probably have to send them again. Such a shame that this hardware will be rememberred as the legendary Switch' weakpoint. A price-cut would be welcome, as we have to replace them periodically.

Feedback is appreciated, anyone else experienced this?

I've had my switch since Christmas 2017 and repaired my joy cons twice from drift (both). You can get kits on amazon/eBay and follow a simple YouTube video. I personally follow NintendoLife's guide for repairing the drift. I actually enjoy taking things apart and fixing them up. Shouldn't have to though! Don't forget to update your controllers also. If you need any tips just @ me

My Joy-Cons were so bad that I had to buy new ones. The second you turned on the Switch they would go flying everywhere, and I died in games so many times because my character walked off the edge. The only game they worked in was Smash. I got new Joy-Cons and they work just fine.

We need a Mario + Rabbids sequel! And an Odyssey one too!

@Bankaj I've had that issue with my I got at launch, March 2017. Sometimes after booting up a game, the right joycon stop working, but home button does work. Sometimes, I've taken the right joycon off, pressed buttons and it resyncs, and put the joycon back on, and it works. Or, I've gone go to switch home screen, controller sync icon at bottom of screen, resync the them there, and go back into the game.

i just got my switch back last weeek . i bought it 11 month's ago, the two joycons had replacement parts put in them, and i got another 12 month's warranty. But i think drift is just you need to clean your joycons sometime's, thats what someone on here told me bofore.

I've got four sets of joy cons(I spent a fortune so we could play 8 player bomberman). However now the left joy cons on all of them drift.

Cleaning them with electrical contact cleaner temporarily fixed them. I've tried swapping out the analogue sticks, but I could only get the screws off one of the joycons.

I've bought an 8bitdo receiver so I can play single player games still, but it's annoying I can't play multiplayer games anymore.

Hi I’m facing a similar problem this week I bought the HORI left Mario joy con and has been working fine. When I’m on the front screen the control stick and buttons work and can select options but once in a game they don’t respond. I have tried the HORI in another console and works fine.. I have also tried the official blue left joy con and faces with the same issue. Both work on home page of switch but as soon as I select a game they don’t work

Well, i never had drift but a couple days ago my right joy con stopped working while playing on tv. Both needed to charge so i put them on the dock. A few hours later the left joy con had perfectly charged but the right one wouldnt connect to the switch. The weird part is when its attached it works perfectly to play undocked.

Any idea of what i could do to try to fix it beside send it to Nintendo?

Thanks for the response

Both joy cons are recognized when attached. The problem occurs when its not attached. I press a button and i can see the green light moving around, its supposed to stop in the first slot but it doesnt and just disappears. And the left joy con gets two lights. When i go to the controller setting menu, the right joy con doesnt appear and the left joy con appears as a single controller.
