Topic: Pokemon Platinum won't work in DS.

So a while back, I had an issue with Pokemon Platinum version on my 3DS. I wanted to play it mainly because I never played a gen 4 game before, and I had the game ever since I was little. I inserted my copy, which looked pretty much totally fine, and I tried to play it. Sometimes the game appeared on the home menu then disappeared, and sometimes it appeared, and let me play it before just crashing with it acting like I pulled the game card out of the system.

People before suggested that the copy might be a bootleg, but I highly doubt it, as I know what store we got the game from, and know that it was a brand new copy of the game as well. The contacts on the back don't look like they rubbed off, or like the game card itself is dusty either. I haven't tried it on original DS hardware, but that's because I can't actually find the charging cable to my original DS or my DSI.

Any suggestions on what this could be?

@VoidofLight
Can you show the cartridge ?
Must be inspected from the cartridge sticker and the display on the screen.

@Anti-Matter I mean, the game itself is highly unlikely to be a bootleg or fake, since I got it brand new at a pretty decent retail store. Also, I'd post a picture, but I don't know how exactly to do that here.

Eh, I don’t think the case is with a bootleg cartridge necessarily.

I think it would be the cart itself. I’ve had issues with old DS games having difficulty reading. Have you tried cleaning the contacts with a dab of alcohol with a qtip? If other DS games works with your 3DS, I’d assume the cart has issues.

VoidofLight

@shining_nexus I'll try seeing if I can do that. Other games do in fact work, so I feel like you're probably right about the cartridge being the issue.

So, it’s been a while, but I finally got to it.. and it doesn’t work sadly. I’m wondering if my copy of platinum is suffering the same fate of what people’s copies of ORAS suffered..

Just sounds like you’ve been unlucky with general wear. Not much you can really do about it.

@Munchlax Darn.. so there’s no way I’ll get to play it.

Update: so it works, but I gotta sacrifice my thumb by pushing the card into my ds, as it won’t read otherwise.

Dogorilla

You mean you have to hold it in place the entire time?

@Dogorilla yep. Hold it down like I’m putting the card in.

Dogorilla

Ah that's annoying. I wonder if you could construct something to hold it in place for you. Might not be worth the hassle though.
