@Varkster It actually looks interesting, it doesn't seem to be Switch but I'll search it on sale for PS4.
Now that I think about it, I recommend Detention. It's a hidden gem on Switch that costs 10 dollars and it has a great story. The game is scary enough without being absolutely terrifying and it really, really surprised me in different ways. I recommend that if anyone tries it, to pay attention to every detail in the story because it's really rewarding if you manage to connect everything.
@WoomyNNYes By the creators of Amnesia (the first one and Rebirth), it's on PS4, Steam and Xbox One, they haven't made a Switch version yet which is a shame because I think that's by far their best game yet. It's a horror puzzle survival game but the plot is the part that's genuinely the most interesting, the world and themes of the games are just bleak and depressing and it makes you ponder questions like the meaning and purpose of life.
@roy130390 I think I have Detention in my Steam library and I just haven't gotten around to playing it, I have a knack for horror games in general and I heard that's a good one. Back in the day when horror was less popular I was stuck playing Half-Life and Half-Life 2 mods, in fact, a lot of games which come out nowadays are by developers and/or inspired by those mods. Horror is just a fascinating genre in general and it's so difficult to get right, especially since it's a very trend-based genre. A good game comes out and every single other game wants to copy the success, and this happens in waves of different gimmicks and style of games. Detention seems kinda unique in that regard, it's 2D and very different from the modern P.T./Layers of Fear/Outlast clones.
@Varkster SOMA is probably my favorite Horror game to date, the Story behind it is great. I also really liked Observer, although not quite as much as the beforementioned.
Gonna try out tormented Souls next as well as the Maiden of Blackwater, once it releases, really expecting something out of those two

@roy130390 I think I'm nearing the end of the Champions Ballad portion and have found most of the extra costume pieces. I do intend to try Trial of the Sword, but whether I actually finish it is anyone's guess. XD
I really want Metroid Dread, but I don't think I'll get to it right away and decided, after much thought, to dump it on my Christmas list. I did play through Metroid: Samus Returns as my Halloween game in 2019 and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere and music were perfect. I'm sure it'll be doubly so in Dread.
Currently playing: Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Ys Seven (PC)
@Solaine Yeah, I played Observer for a bit and the game looks great and the setting is awesome and overall the game has some serious style as well as the beloved Rutger Hauer (rest in peace), but it didnt quite grab me the same way SOMA did. There are a lot more jumpscares in Observer and I think some of the lucid dream sections overstay their welcome.
I watched Vinny finish the game after I put it down just to see what happens in the story and while nothing amazing does happen and the plot twist you can see from a mile away, it's still a very nice romp and much better than Layers of Fear 2 and Blair Witch, which are both games they went on to develop next.
Ok, I have my tiny list of games I played to intentionally coincide with the season in past years
-ZombiU
-Lone Survivor
-Darksiders
-Darksiders 2
-Costume Quest 2
-Luigi's Mansion 3's...online, a year after it came out (I forget if I got the game at launch or not, but if I did, it'd only be to play it on Halloween 2019)
and again all the Halloween Animal Crossing events
I actually wanted to do more, like finally play Dead Rising, but I just never got around to it. By coincidence, I did play both Metroid 2 remakes in back to back Octobers, which is funny how that worked out. (I guess Metroid is now an October series)
@Varkster Oh, it's great that you probably already have it, I really recommend you to try it if you have a couple hours. It's quite a short game (about 4-5 hours if I remember correctly) but it left an impression on me, and yeah, it definitely feels unique. I'm also tired of these P.T. and Outlast look-alikes everywhere. Some might be good, but there's so many and usually look so similar that I really don't feel like giving them a chance. The only horror games that I have enjoyed in these last couple years are Detention, Evil Within 2 and Yomawari. Well, there's also Resident Evil Revelations 2 but I don't count it as horror as much as I count it as an action game with fun online haha.
@Tyranexx The trial of the Sword has been kicking my butt because I tend to mess up when I'm about to finish haha. I always get nervous and turn what looked like decent, competent gameplay to almost cartoon-like mistakes that you wouldn't expect from somone who supposedly has played for a hundred hours...
I do remember in some comments that you already had many games that you wanted to play so it's a good idea to give priority to the backlog before getting more. I should do that too as I have LOTS of games that I need to finish but I just can't be that patient with Metroid haha.
@roy130390 The Evil Within 2 is actually fantastic, I wish they had plans for a third entry since the ending (without spoiling anything) leaves a pretty open door for a sequel, but it looks like the game is in slight limbo since it wasn't profitable enough.
The studio's new game looks interesting but honestly I was hoping for TEW3.
@roy130390 That'll be me: screwing something up royally almost instantly or when I'm almost done lol. Still haven't gotten to Trial of the Sword yet; I've gone off on a tangent hunting Koroks to get all my inventory slots.
I have a heck of a backlog. Not as much as some, but when almost half of those are long games....XD I'm at least trying to get better about moving on when I'm no longer having fun and not being such a completionist.

Just finished metroid dread which leaves enough time for another game for the season. Not sure yet, but im thinking either harmony of dissonance, RE4( I've played this one before), or dying light. Alot of decisions..
@NintendoByNature would that be your first time playing Harmony of Dissonance?
I thought this October i'd be playing more Resident Evil (i still have to play the Resi remake). But I started Sekiro instead 😐 it's not very Halloweeny, but there was an undead priest full of maggots and centipedes which is pretty close.

@Losermagnet first time playing it yes. It's funny, I reallllllly wana play RE4 since it's such a good time, but im leaning towards dying light as my zombie game since it'll be a fresh experience. I'm so wishy washy lol.
REmake on the cube was my favorite game back in HS, but I just can't play it anymore. Really hard to adjust to the controls these days lol
@NintendoByNature i know that wishy-washy feeling all too well. I like to think i'm a fairly organized person, but when it comes to video games all that goes out the window lol. I was gonna start Sekiro a few weeks back when i had vacation time. Played Disco Elysium instead.
Tank controls never bother me much. Takes me a little while to relearn tank controls but im usually good after that. Unless i try playing another game with a different control scheme shortly before or after. Then my brain gets the wires crossed and i forget what i'm doing lol.
Harmony is good, but not as good as Circle imo. It's kind of ugly, the music isnt great, and it's a bit on the easy side. But still a good time 👍.

I think it took me 20-25x to win this hand kart race in Pumpkin Jack. An enemy guy always snuck by to squeeze out a lead at the VERY end. (video plays at relevant time stamp)
