Topic: Your Best Pokemon Nicknames

Hey everyone, I'd like to start something here before Legends Arceus comes out that's quite close to my heart. Pokemon nicknames are something so superfluous yet they just add so much to the series in my opinion. Having a name for your fictional pet makes you really get attached to them so, for the last few entries starting in Sun/Moon, I've been trying to think of the perfect nickname for my Pokemon. It was this kind of thought process that made me wonder what other people's favourite nicknames that they came up with were and thus, here we are. So, to anyone who visits this thread, say what was (or was one of) the best nicknames you ever came up with for a Pokemon? I'll start this off with my current favourite nickname:

Ever since Sword and Shield, I've called all of Zubats, Golbats and Crobats Fief. It's both a play on how they zip through the night and attack stealthily but also, fief is another word for peasant/commoner. And what just so happens the stereotypical overly common Pokemon? Zubat. I just love it so much.

@Fizza
I like to name my Pokemon with funny nick name, usually i named them with Indonesian language based on their look.
For example Froakie = Katak (Frog), Ghastly = Hantu (Ghost), Pachirisu = Tupai (Squirell), Tropius = Pisang (Banana), etc.

Goodness knows
The wicked die alone...

@Anti-Matter It's crazy that, even though those are literally just words showing what they are, they still work as really cool names. I especially like Hantu on Gastly, it sounds very chilling.

Dogorilla

My best nicknames are usually bad puns - Noseferatu the Probopass, Cottonee Joe, that kind of thing. As for one that I think is actually quite a nice name, I have a Roselia called Elisa as a reference to the song Where the Wild Roses Grow. And I now realise that all the letters of Elisa also happen to be in Roselia, which is neat.

Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music

@Dogorilla I'm just imagining the image of a Cottonee in a cowboy hat square dancing with Petilil and it is hilarious, fantastic stuff.

I never used to give nicknames to Pokemon, but the past few games I've made an effort to give a nickname to every Pokemon I catch. I catch every uncaptured Pokemon I come across to fill up the Pokedex, so it ends up being a lot of names I have to come up with. Because of that I usually just end up naming them the first thing that comes to my head, whether it's an item, a dorky pet name, or just a random word. Usually I'm super indecisive when it comes to character names or character creation, but in Pokemon I don't give it a second thought, just the first thing I think of is what they're stuck with.

Some examples are Turnip the Bunnelby, Sparky the Bolthund, Scrawl the Corviknight, and Bonbun the Scorbunny. Even though I don't put much thought into them, and sometimes they don't make sense or even sound good, I still grow attached to the names.

Eel

Back in the day of Generation 4, when I was interested in battling people online, once named a Suicune “Cristal” (with the i because that’s crystal in Spanish).

Even back then I would almost exclusively frequent English-speaking fansites. Needless to say, I got several comments from people disgusted with the misspelling. It was funny!

As for other nicknames, I’ll sometimes try to keep a theme, like characters from an specific franchise, names of plants, or four letter names, etc.

@Cynas Trust me, sometimes my favourite nicknames are the stupidest things I can think of. For example, when I got a Farfetch'd/Sirfetch'd in SwSh, I couldn't think of a good nickname at the time so I literally just called him 'JustADuck' and now I can never look at one of them the same way again afterwards without thinking of it, it's just so stupid it's brilliant.

I like naming Pokémon's based on their type and appearance. Or if they have any special things I remember them by. For example, if they look like a dog and its black and white, I may call them "Snoopy," or if they got big teeth, "Chomper."

Game on. 🤘 Rock on. 🎸

I called a Magikarp "Fishy"

For a shiny Drifblim in Pokemon Go, I nicknamed it Doubloon. I'm still proud of that one.

Probably for me it’s dusk the umbreon and crystal the glaceon.
My nicknames for some Pokémon are a bit lazy. (Eve for eevee flare for flareon etc)
