Like everyone's already said, it's got nothing to do with the games. Just because I play GTA doesn't mean I'm gonna go out and kill a bunch of cops. The people who do end up being violent over games (like the man who stabbed someone over Counter Strike) already have severe mental issues. They would have done the same thing over any topic, because they are already mentally unstable. He could have just as easily been arguing over a box of cereal, doesn't mean we're going to start attacking cereal for making people violent.
I think it's partly because a lot of parents today are very removed from their children, so rather than playing with them, they sit them in front of a console. And when something inappropriate pops up in this make-shift-mother, they actually have to step in and do something. Violent games (or rather lack of knowledge of the ESRB from parents) means they can't substitute games for parenting. This obviously isn't the only reason, but I do think it is one of them.
The best strategy in the game: go up stairs and pause balls.
What was the name of the show? The Self-Righteous Prick Report? Jimmy McDouchebags Bias-Time Variety Hour? It's pretty clear they only cared about a one sided debate (audience included) rather than listening to the guy defending gaming.

I found that incredibly annoying. They actually had the nerve to "boo" him in the middle of his argument, (his LOGICAL argument) and block out what he was saying, and I think the reason for that is that they didn't want to hear that it was their own fault for buying Rated M (or 16+) games for their kids. All they have to do is look at the front of the game, and they can probably make a good guess about how voilent it is, and not just because of the ratings.
I mean, not only does this have guns on the front, the game's title is a name for an actual crime. It doesn't get any more obvious!
Sigh, and so our TV becomes dumber and more reactionary all the time. The media loves moral panics though as they make a 'good' (sensational, marketable) story.
For an interesting adult take on the issue in the Media track down Charlie Brooker's excellent 'Gameswipe' originally screened on BBC4.
It's a typical 3pm/5pm chat show. We have an influx of them at the moment. They all star minor celebrities (almost exclusively from non-chatshow backgrounds, Alan Titchmarsh there is a gardener ) nobody has given a damn about for at least five years and they all feature at least one chat where they find something they know nothing about and decide they're right at everything.
