They need a healthy variety of kiddie and mature games.

Couldn't this be said of all publishers? Nintendo is largely "kiddie" (why are we even using that word? It's kind of insulting), whereas everyone else is mostly "mature". I wouldn't expect that to change unless other publishers started switching things up in big ways.

Yes it could, but there's no reason Nintendo has to wait for the other publishers. If Nintendo sees that there's money to be made in more mature games then they should just go after it.

Pokemon's "boss battles", including the champions, suck. They are just harder versions of basic trainers in the game. And I can get a more challenging experience against human players as well as the Battle Chateau/ Battle Subway/ Battle whatever. As much as people complain that Lance's Dragonites were "illegal", it at least made them unique.

1. Am I the only one to notice that there's no Uprising in Kid Icarus: Uprising?
2. There's been a misconception going around in games journalism that game critics shouldn't review games they backed on kickstarter or indiegogo because it would cause critics to be nicer to the game they backed. I personally doubt that claim, as it means that critics would look at the game with more of a scrutinizing eye.

PSASBR is a bit of a joke really, in that it is just a bad clone of Smash. Sony's roster isn't nearly as exciting as the average one in Smash and the lack of the likes of Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Snake and Cloud (the latter two got in Smash and were/are great) crumbles it before it had a chance to be taken seriously. The gameplay is severely lacking, there's only so many times I could handle collecting orbs to fill up a meter only to miss my special attack before I got annoyed and bored as it wasn't a good idea to begin with, and its even worse in practice. The cherry on the joke cake is that the 5 or so DLC characters are staring right at you every time you start the game and are possible the fight against but are locked out unless you pay up, you know Sony had no passion or determination to turn this into a success when they couldn't be a***** to get the licences of some of their most iconic characters, based the entire gameplay on a mechanic that got boring very quickly and then flaunts their DLC without shame every time one picks a character to play as. Still it only cost me £4 and I'd honestly be up for a sequel but Sony would have to give a damn first. Which I don't see happening too soon.

I was burned out on Pokemon after the first release of Ruby/Sapphire..

I think Playstation All Stars would've been a ton better had it actually been a full on Smash clone. There were a ton of things about the gameplay that suffered because they wanted to be different. To this day the whole "KO by specials mechanic" is still one of the worst mechanics I've ever seen in a fighting game. Core gameplay itself wasn't bad but it lacks a lot of the finesse and polish we've known from Smash. The game also lacked the budget we'd normally expected from Smash, if Sony wanted a competitor for Smash, they should've given Super Bot better resources and more faith in the project.

Also the roster was awful, with huge lack of fan favorites and characters that actually earned the title of "Playstation All Stars" compared to most of the characters that were actually in the roster. And the 3rd Party characters were only there to promote upcoming games instead of characters fans would've actually wanted like Cloud or Snake. I know Sony's cast of characters don't have the same recognition Nintendo does, but Sony still has a large library of well liked characters that they could've put a much better effort than the sorry excuse of a roster we ended up getting

@TheLastLugia: I don't see what PSASBR has in common with Smash Bros. aside from being 2D fighters with lots of video game characters that were either by the company who published it, or were games on the system that said company made. If we're using that logic, I guess the Vs. Capcom games, Fighters Megamix, Capcom Fighting Evolution (or Capcom fighting Jam in the UK and Japan) and Project X Zone are Smash ripoffs.

Have you played All Stars? It's 100% a ripoff in terms of gameplay and play style; whereas all the other games you listed (aside from PXZ) are normal fighting games.

...these are unpopular opinions? Sound like random musings to me.

You mean a total ripoff Aside from the fact that:
A. There's no percent system for damage
B. The gameplay as a whole is much more slow-paced
C. Specials are earned by attacking enemies, rather than bludgeoning a floating energy orb
D. Specials are your only means of killing foes
E. The gameplay is more Risk vs. Reward

If those don't matter, then yes. PSASBR is a ripoff.

Smash's patches included the new DLC characters too... everything but a trigger saying "yeah, he's allowed to use this". Same with stages. Otherwise, it would've split the online community, either by forcing disconnects when a player didn't own a certain character or stage, or by making you use a different playlist / matchmaking queue.

Presentation is a great part of it too. At least in Smash it's not begging for you to buy them and the DLC doesn't appear anywhere until you have the DLC. Less teasing. Aside from online there's no tease.

They can be even easier if you hit hard at the right time. I've had Gym Leader battles where they couldn't even make a hit because the AI tells them to do some stat booster or w/e first.

Not Steam. Anyone can just make their own indie smash rip off.

Why are most of the Game Gear games on 3DS really hard to look at? Was it always that way? Super grainy and squished with bright color. Gross. Don't want them.

@Dankykong:
A. Well, now you know two games that are look and act closer to smash. Also, what did you expect coming in, knowing that this is a 4-way fighter starring an all-star lineup of sony characters made by a developer that's never made a game before this one? The most original game that's ever been?
B. I don't own a game gear, but from what I've seen of the system on the internets, yes.

Old comment but eh. The only thing All stars ripped off from Smash was the idea of the game. That's it,the rest is completely original.

The design of Smash is being repeated. That's what a clone is. That's what happened a bunch of times. Not everytime. I didn't say every 2.5D fighter is a ripoff, I said they're all boring and there are a bunch of ripoffs.
All Stars had the very similar controls, same boxes with the character pic + damage percentages, and the intros into the battles the same way as Smash, and a lot of the menus and what not were Smash like.

You guys remember Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Smash-Up? Came out on the Wii? I only got to play it a few times but I liked it.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Never heard of that one before, so I checked it out. Seems like it's a SSB clone made by the dev's who co-developed Brawl. Sadly not something I'd be interested in. Guess I still have to wait for Mutants In Manhattan.

My question of the moment: what's so bad about the "pay to win" scheme in games? Is it so bad to pay a little extra to make a game easier? Does the very idea of this make your anger boil?
