Is Paper Jam even that rated to begin with? It's not out in the US yet and was lukewarmly received in Europe and Japan.
It's been out long enough for GameFAQs users to rank it above the likes of Super Paper Mario, which I think is bullcrap because SPM actually has a plot and original characters. Paper Jam does not, all it has is Starlow and a ton of mainline characters that never got fleshed out thus I'm not a huge fan of.
In my opinion the only thing saving it from being in the dump with Sticker Star is that it has a proper battle system with EXP, that's literally it. Until we see more grand, epic, save-the-universe-from-new-villain-who-is-developed Paper Mario games I'm not interested in that series. As for M&L, I'm blaming PJ's blandness on Paper Mario in its current state being involved. If the next M&L game doesn't have any new characters I'm going to lose interest in that series too. Paper Jam is OK as a normal Mario game, but why did it have to be the awful Sticker Star universe. Should have been the TTYD or Super Paper Mario universe.
For the record I'm an American who imported and already beat Paper Jam, I haven't done the optional stuff but from what I hear there's no RPG original characters in any of that either. For the second time they blew their chance to have Fawful X as an optional boss (I know he's dead, but X bosses aren't the same as the real thing). Paper Luigi does appear, but he plays no role in the plot and doesn't talk at all, his appearance is insulting to people who played the first three Paper Mario games and saw his personality there.
TL;DR: I've seen people saying Paper Jam is better than Super Paper Mario and Dream Team and I think that's laughable.

Did they tone down defense / counter actions and speed up battles in Paper Jam? I swear that Dream Team went overboard with enemy health (or your damage output) and attacks, which makes some fights little more then long drawn-out minigames (especially some dream world fights). And please tell me they got rid of the awful controls of giant battles (assuming they exist in a new form).
I still need to beat Dream Team... and at this point, it's just to say I did. No M&L has yet to surpass Superstar Saga, and Dream Team went several steps back.
The giant battles (and all gyro controls) are completely gone. There's Papercraft battles, but they are real-time, with an adjustable camera. Paper Jam still has long attack sequences, if that's what you're asking. Bosses can chase you into the foreground, etc.
The difficulty is insane compared to previous M&L games though. The second major boss can kill you if you fail to dodge just one of its turns. Paper Mario is harder to kill, but multiple-hit attacks are devastating to him, especially involving fire. Maybe the difficulty just comes with having to dodge with 3 characters, but I think it's the hardest since Partners in Time, perhaps harder.

Unpopular opinion: Mario Kart 7 is my favorite game in the entire series. The gameplay is smooth and refined, the new tracks are imaginative, the stereoscopic 3D is gorgeous, and it has a really solid online mode.

Let younger gamers like what they like. Just because they like different types of games that doesn't automatically make the stupid. It just means they have different tastes.

Meanwhile series favorites like DS and 64 are bland and boring in design (aside from missions)

PiT wasn't really difficult, the boss battles just took way longer than they should have. It was so bad that they actually reduced the stats on bosses in every other version of PiT. A mario and luigi boss should NOT take 45 minutes to beat, even if it's the final boss.
I actually prefer the Battle Network and Star Force Mega Man series to the other Blue Bomber series (barring the Legends series, as I haven't tried it yet). There's nothing wrong with the other series, and I have liked what I've played of them. I've found that I just prefer the RPG-like setting, exploration, grid-based real-time combat, and chip/card collecting elements in Battle Network/Star Force better.
Allow me to demonstrate how easy it is to refude claims by AAA companies:
Microsoft: Kinect! Who says we'e out of ideas?
Me:
I say that you're out of ideas!
Lots of AAA game companies: Mobile is the way of the future!!!
Me:
I think you should reconsider!
Lots of AAA game companies: Horror games don't sell!

@MrMario02: you're trying too hard
Tiger was supposed to compete with Gameboy and other portable systems. Both DS and 3DS turned out to be huge success. And Japan shows that portable is the way.
Also, you gave good laugh with Amnesia as example. You wanna know how good it was selling? 10,000... by month. It sold 1.4 mln in 2 years. And that's after that idiot using r word for assult constantly hyped it.
Now tell me how 1,4 mln copies sold in 2 years covers AAA title and shows the market.
Where is that picture of hundreds of facepalms when you need it?
@MrMario02: I'm sure those big companies, with their reams of market research, are terrified by a random internet user who can refute the best conclusions of their analysts with random pictures pulled off the internet.

And they're probably gawking at all the money that Bloodstained game got for its Kickstarter

@Ralizah I know that nothing I say will ever make any game developer cry, but the audacity you have to have to make claims like "Horror doesn't sell" when Five Nights at Freddy's and Slender: The Arrival sell like hotcakes. @Dave24 The DS and 3DS have a primarily hardcore audience in mind, while Tiger games are primarily simple score attack games, like most mobile games.

@MrMario02: Horror is a bit of a niche genre, unfortunately. A horror game that sells well still won't post the levels of profit that really big action adventure games are likely to. At least Capcom seems to be getting the message that horror-based Resi games will make a profit.

Also, as "bestseller" "hot cake" Amnesia proved, 700, 000 copies sold per year is apperantly crazy seller to justify sinking millions to make AAA title.
Allison Road proved that there is no market - they couldn't even get 250k to make it, they only got half the money in month of kickstarter and being hyped by all media outlets.
Probably the game wouldn't even happen if Team17 didn't come in.
The games he named are actually selling, because of let's player and not because there is market for it.
Am I the only one who really doesn't like the Xbox 360 menu? Granted I haven't used it that much, but it's so ugly and cluttered. I much prefer the PS3's XMB or even the Wii's home menu, though my personal favorite is the Wii U.

No, you're not. The interfaces for the 360 and One are a complete cluster.

It sold double than that over 3 years ago. And it still sold better than Fuse and is actually still being played by people, unlike Brink or most of the shooters.
I do feel like the entire comparison is impossible to properly do, as proper horror games are never actually advertised even 1/10 as much as action games. Yes, the action games with 100 million dollar marketing budget sold better than a game that relied on word of mouth. That doesn't mean much.
