Honestly I'd go for Mario Party DS. The multiplayer on that game is outstanding, so if you're looking for something fun to play with your bro I'd say that's a great choice.

The only one I have out of those choices is Dr. Mario. If you have Dr Mario Online Rx for WiiWare it's kind of dissapointing, and there's no multiplayer, but hey--it's Dr. Mario.

Mario Party is a great DS game. But Zelda Spirit Tracks is the best DS game. So keep that in mind.

i dont like zelda as much as mario or kirby he is my top 5 nintendo mascot number 4 right in fount of peach and behind metroid

The fighting system is really not a reason to turn down this game. It's actually quite intuitive and helps the game move along at a good pace. It certainly makes grinding easier.
Also, when you get to Book II, you acquire a fire rod that you will use frequently.

How different is Super Smash Bros. from Melee and Brawl?

What's interesting about me and the SSB series is that I'll be going in reverse: Brawl, Melee, SSB (in that order). It was almost like that with the Mario RPGs: Thousand Year Door, Super Paper Mario, Paper Mario, Super Mario RPG, Partners In Time.
