The Cyberpunk story is a complicated one because, although the game originally shipped in a terrible state, it's had something of a redemption arc after years of patches, capped off with a highly acclaimed DLC.
I'd rather hope that the lesson that CDPR would take away from this is that, if they hadn't shoveled it out the door to hit a deadline and kept it in the oven until fully baked, they'd have had a game that's as highly acclaimed as Baldur's Gate 3 or Tears of the Kingdom are, because the public only ever got to see them in their final form.
On the other hand, maybe they'll just keep thinking that they got away with it? I guess we'll find out when they release their next game.
Curious to see if Capcom gives a look at the inevitable new Monster Hunter game. The leaked Capcom documents indicated the next mainline entry was supposed to come out next year, though that may have changed since the leak.
I will say, as someone whose only remotely liked 3 of the Game Awards so far (2014, 2018, 2022), I do hope this one follows on those by either at least somewhat trying to pretend to be legit or being a really fun pseudo-E3 ft. awards show. When they fail to do either, its a miserable slog much of the time, only watchable with the right streamers. And its obnoxious since I feel like I'm asking for the absolute bare minimum.
We still need to ban generic CG trailers for unknown IP, they're the most useless trailers in the world. They're the ultimate waste of everyone's time, with how forgotten these games tend to be, including the people who make them. And if you can make a cg trailer for some unknown IP memorable, I'd argue you might actually be too talented to simply be making cg trailers for video games.
Heyyy, Monster Hunter Wilds, let's go! Glad my curiosity was quelled tonight, even if that 2025 release date hurts. Not really much of anything to go on with the combat, but it looks gorgeous. Hoping they don't go full-on open world with the series, but I'm happy to at least know the next entry is being worked on.
GOTY seems absolutely deserved. Haven’t played it yet but it seems like an incredibly high-quality game. Really glad that TOTK, Wonder, and even Pikmin 4 won their own awards, too.
