@Mariotag Smash online is maybe the only time where I’ve actually had a bad experience playing a Nintendo game online. Unfortunate about the friend group, sorry. It’s insane how Smash ends an online match for EVERYONE if one person has bad internet, or if the game lags on one person’s end. It should have done what Splatoon did with internet, where the match still goes on even when one person disconnects, instead of just punishing everyone involved in the match by ending the game.
Honestly, the unbalanced spirit battles were another thing that bothered me, on top of All-Star Smash not being like how it was in Smash 4. I encountered so many infuriating battles in World of Light, and it’s only when you get a lot of good spirits that the battles become easier to win, but it requires putting lots of time into the game and coming across good spirits by random chance. I only just started realizing that spirit battles are mediocre (in my opinion) but even when I was playing Ultimate almost daily and enjoying it, I hated certain spirit battles anyway. The Boss, Pauline, and almost every 3-4 star spirit battles being the worst offenders in terms of being unbalanced for the player.
So I see, FE Warriors didn’t have a lot going on for its pre-existing characters in terms of story. I can’t even remember a lot of it, besides when the protagonists got separated from their mother and Darios dying and falling into a purple space looking hole if I remember. I do recall none of the antagonists being playable and it was only the protagonists that could be used. Strange, given Hyrule Warriors let you play as antagonists like Ganondorf and Cia.
The banning came from charging and a payment error? That sounds awful, on top of him getting hacked when he was trying to fix it. I wonder how a chargeback like that even happens? I haven’t heard of that happening before. At least the hacker can’t use the stuff though, but it still sucks anyway that he lost his account on top of being console banned.
Yeah the bans in Splatoon are pretty terrible. I have been banned from playing online for a few minutes because of that issue, and the game just assumes your WiFi is awful (I can partially remember that from a message you get in 2 when your banned from playing online and try to play a match anyway). Something like that similarly happened when I was playing Overwatch back in December…that game arguably has worse internet than Splatoon. Online play is risky, because there is a half chance the game servers will work, but another half chance they’ll not and you’ll get banned from playing online because it thinks you intentionally disconnected. The only online game I’ve played lately that I think doesn’t have awful online servers is Marvel Rivals, on top of being extremely fun.
I’m really bad at reading the room and always wanting to say stuff instead of being quiet. Sometimes I think I should get what’s on my mind off my chest, but sometimes it’s random comments that turn out to annoy people or make them upset. It also includes random comments, and I keep thinking that everyone should know how I feel. I did used to be a more silent and quieter person, mainly because I was pretty antisocial and wanted to be alone, so I didn’t really like interacting with others or going out, but now I’m regretting it so much…mainly because I’m extremely nervous and can’t hold normal conversations with others without feeling awkward. I’m more chatty now, but it still sucks I feel awkward talking to others. I also didn’t want friends at first because I was worried about things like friends turning on me or being backstabbers but it turns out I was way too paranoid and it was just me overthinking it. Sorry about your friends…it must feel strange and worrying not knowing how certain people in your life act toward you and not having a true answer for it.

@Pastellioli maybe it's just the fighting game problem, I never played any other via the internet because it kinda defeats the purpose in games like Tekken, which is super technical, and 1 frame can make a difference. I mean the same goes for Ultimate, but I just so wanted to play it more and more and I had over 130 hours in Smash 4 so I pretty much did everything my skill level allowed me to.
It is fun, I hope they gain more traction with the audience. There are some games like that, games that I hope are more popular, but I think most gamers just want smooth, instantly rewarding gameplay, instead of finding worth in slightly gritty, unpolished diamonds that shine brilliantly nevertheless. There was a game like that, Giraffe and Annika, and it really shows how limited is but there is so much personality and effort put into it, I cannot not defend it. Do you have any games like that?

I agreed with someone in a news comment thread, and they completely misunderstood me and said some things. Thread is now blocked and I can't clear this up, should I call them out somewhere and try to explain or should I leave things be?
Bring me the sesame, miso, citrus and pepper flavored fish cakes
@Princess_Lilly Smash is actually the only fighting game I have played online, I haven’t played more technical fighting game online mainly because I didn’t want to, but I think playing a fighting game online would be extremely hard, also given the terrible WiFi experience I had with Smash. I did pour more time into Ultimate than in Smash 4, so I did want to do way more stuff as well, including nearly 100% the game, but I’m still missing certain spirits that don’t show up from the bad RNG when spirit hunting and I’m not sure how to get to full 100% on WOL despite getting all of the fighters and getting all three endings. I still think Ultimate is fun and better than 4, but my main issues are the bad online, lackluster story mode that doesn’t feel like a story mode, and the way Spirit battles were executed.
I do play less popular and less mainstream games, yes! I tend to enjoy those types of games a lot more than most popular games or newer releases. I have been playing a kind of more niche shoot em’ up on my console and it’s hard but fun anyway, and I also tend to like playing certain games on harder difficulty levels. It’s a more popular game, but I really like playing Project Sekai/Colorful Stage on higher difficulty levels. It’s a challenge to sometimes hit all the notes perfectly, but also so fun to do, especially since you get more rewards if you do well.

@Pastellioli Me too and that's cool, I do love a good sleeping session as well. Been listening to some vintage swing jazz music and that got me in a great mood. Currently listening to a livestream of oldies music to help me relax. (It's from the YouTube channel Cozy Vintage - I highly recommend it!) That's cool, I remember folks like Nostalgia Critic who would review bad movies and stuff like that.
Me too, that would make it a lot more consumer-friendly to have "complete" versions of free-to-play games that have their servers shut down. I'm so glad Nintendo did that with Pocket Camp. I don't play a lot of mobile games, but it's definitely my favorite one. Hopefully they'll follow suit with their other games for the sake of those who like them. Ouch, Kingdom Hearts Union X got shut down without an offline version?
Oh that's cool, I remember seeing that Gold Mario icon. I wonder if the Switch 2 will have these kinds of icons as well? I'd imagine later down the road there would be icons for say, Mario Kart World, and you'd need a Switch 2 to collect them.
Nice, I've not played the Disney Infinity games. I do have Disney Dreamlight Valley, and I do like it, but I haven't played too much of it. I should change that sometime, if I can't get any more new bugs for my museum in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, I could revisit Dreamlight Valley and see what more stuff I can do. Besides the museum donating and the DLC, I kinda ran out of steam for New Horizons, admittedly. I'm all ready for a new Animal Crossing game, once I get a Switch 2 that is.
Gotcha, I'd imagine 3DS chargers aren't too hard to find. I've never played Yo-kai Watch, you like it quite a bit huh? Isn't it sort of like Pokemon? I've given some of my 3DS games multiple playthroughs too, I've played through Super Mario 3D Land and A Link Between Worlds on a few occasions. I'm even giving Kirby Triple Deluxe a second playthrough. I'm gonna be honest... the 3DS is such a good system. I don't remember what my most played 3DS game was, but I definitely played New Leaf a lot when I first got it.
That definitely would've been cool for Mario Kart World to have a full-fledged adventure mode. It is cool that the free roam mode has some incentive to explore around, but I kinda want to see how much of that incentive will be. Yeah, I'm wondering if Diddy Kong Racing will make it or not. Oh gotcha, that was pretty much why, huh? That kind of explains why there wasn't a Banjo-Kazooie game for the GameCube or Xbox.
I'm definitely keeping an eye on Bananza. Though, I do have a bit of concern for the game. It seems to focus more on destroying things and digging through environments, and I'm a little worried that you'd have to rapidly tap any of the punch buttons to keep digging. Maybe it's not as bad. That's a shame you came across that spoiler, sorry to hear. Bananza does look like it was made by the same people who made Odyssey, and yes, I'm definitely looking forward to see what the next Mario platformer will be like.

AKA MarioVillager92. Ask if you want to be Switch friends with me, but I want to get to know you first. Thanks! ❤️
@MarioVillager92 Napping and sleeping in general is one of life’s greatest blessings lol. I did see what you were listening to on the music thread! That’s cool. For me, I have been trying to listen to other songs, mostly pop music and a few Japanese songs I haven’t heard in a while…I do feel like my music taste is limited, but also because I’m sorta picky haha. When it comes to bad movie reviews, I honestly like watching them from anyone. They are always so funny to watch and hear with the commentary especially.
Pocket Camp was decent when I played it, besides the Leaf Tickets and the microtransactions. It did make me happy they went the “keep it online” route for Pocket Camp even when it shut down. Union X did get an offline version, but it’s more like a cutscene viewer now, and I found out it was delisted back in August. When the game went offline, there was no more gameplay, jewels or medals, and all you could really do was customize your avatar and watch cutscenes from the game, and I unfortunately didn’t finish the game in time prior to the shutdown because I got stuck on a level. There was another part of it called Dark Road, which was the only part of the game that had gameplay, but it really wasn’t all that fun compared to Union X. After they removed gameplay from Union X and all the cool medals I earned, I just deleted it, not to mention the whole joining groups aspect (which was the main part of the game) was completely gone too. Funnily enough, Union X was the one KH game I poured a lot of time into, though I don’t really care about my progress being gone. If I did spend actual money on it, then I would be more disappointed about it.
I am wondering if they will make certain icon elements on Switch 2 exclusive, also given that certain apps and features like GameCube games and the rewind feature for N64 games is going to be exclusive to the Switch 2. I do expect that a bit, though probably for games that can only be played on Switch 2.
I heard lots of good stuff about Disney Dreamlight Valley (plus I saw it on the Google trending board a lot of times) but I haven’t played it at all. I had a lot of stuff to do in New Horizons but I didn’t put in much time or effort into it compared to New Leaf, but I’m assuming it’s probably because I was used to having a lot of stuff in New Leaf, like furniture, clothes, having an almost complete collection of creatures, a big house, etc. It does feel strange when putting a lot of progress into a game and then having to do it again when you get onto the next game. I am wondering what they’ll do for the next Animal Crossing game, and when the next game will release. I’d assume maybe in a few years?
I do a lot! I remember watching the anime and playing the first two entries, but I never played the third game or any of its spin-offs. It is a bit similar to Pokémon, though it doesn’t feel like a close copy or rip-off of it. When the game came to America it was called a Pokémon rip-off, but I recall reading that they were inspired by Doraemon when making Yo-kai Watch. The game does have plenty of different creatures with different tribes, the yokai can be encountered out in certain areas and the yokai can evolve into new forms, though Yo-kai Watch has more juvenile humor (on top of the yokai having personalities and being able to speak) and the yokai attack automatically instead of you commanding them, so it is like Pokémon, but also feels a bit more like Doraemon with the humor and some of the plots. I haven’t really done multiple playthrough of some 3DS games besides my failed second playthrough of Yo-Kai Watch 2. I tend to not really replay games, usually they are a one and done thing and I move onto the next. The only game I did replay in recent times was Conker, albeit only because I was in an Xbox games club, and if I’m being honest I think that game is super janky and has some terrible gameplay thanks to the game being old.
I rarely see racing games with story modes besides DKR. Yeah, Rare is kind of well known for not really making sequels or prequels to their games and turning them into big franchises. Usually if they made a game, it was a one and done thing, maybe it got a sequel, prequel, spin-off or a related entry if some sort and it was left alone after that. It explains why a lot of their old IPs died off fairly quickly and why reboots of their retro games are being done by different studios, though the staff changes throughout the years probably had something to do with it too.
I don’t really mind the punching gameplay and digging aspect, but I would like to see more platforming and exploring too, which the game looks like it’ll be full of. The gameplay with some of the collectible items sort of reminded me of a collectathon without being an actual collectathon, so seeing that made me more excited a bit. I am hoping it’ll get good reviews once it comes out, especially since it’s significantly different gameplay-wise from most of the previous games. Yeah, it sucked a bit, though I think if information on what the character does in the story leaked instead than that would stink even more, but I definitely have to be careful with spoilers for that. It is fun to think about what the next entry might be like.

@Eel very true, especially given that they were less than polite and I feel like overally people have a tendency to try and interpret whatever you say in a malicious way only so that they can insult you and feel superior. I'm not assuming this is the case, but I slowly back away from social interactions because of how sour it turns most of the time. I thought that I found a chill place in discord, only to find out later that I was hated and I don't remember ever being intentionally rude to anyone.
So yeah, I fully agree, watching birds play is so much more rewarding than pushing myself to try and talk more.
@Pastellioli yeah, on one hand, the story in Smash U is grand, the board is huge and it's really well thought, as the stage and characters really resemble the gameplay from the games they represent. On the other hand, they could have made so many nicer things, like cutscenes, conversations between characters, even some fun interactions would be a welcome addition.
Shmups? I tend to play them for fun, I'm no good at actually getting a big score because it usually requires you to learn to play in some super specific way. And I just want to shoot planes lol. I played "Game Tengoku Cruisin’ Special Mix", various Cotton games, etc.
As for the completely niche games, I like the artistic and narrative driven ones like "Schroedinger's Call" (demo on steam out now), "Nyankori Rabbit Doll", I also want to play "milk inside a bag of milk inside a bag of milk", and one of the best adventure games I played, "Nairi"
What shmups and other niche games do you play? I'm always up for more

@Pastellioli Any online game can be a disaster for me. That particular friend knows it well. I'm hoping to at least be in touch with him!
Yup, the spirit battles suck. When I first played it, I was actually going no spirits, intending to get Puff, and only use her the entire run. Needless to say, that crashed hard into a flaming trash heap, ruining my experience vastly. I dunno if I have 100% on my file, and there was a certain moment at the end I've been waiting for since pre-Brawl.
I remember the FEW story well enough. Ye olde typical FE epic of some lordling having to flee home because of an invasion, gathering troops, and fighting back. A bit closer to the story of Sacred Stones imo, with Darios being possessed by the main villain, which was just an excuse to have a way for all those characters to be there to begin with. Seriously, the mainline characters more or less rehashed their stories with the exception of FE1's cast. The antagonists not being playable was a big blow to me. Turning on permadeath was a mistake on my end too. Also, regarding OG HW, Ganondorf, Ghirahim, and Zant were playable in the first release, with the latter two unlocked in the adventure map, back when there was just the one, plus illustrations. It was great being able to play the King of Evil. Cia however, came as paid DLC, alongside her story and companions/pawns.
You're mistaken about what I said. He had his mom's card on the system, someone hacked him/the card (idk which) and bought a bunch of stuff. When his mom saw the payments, she denied them cause credit card. Sony took this as a debt owed to them, apparently paying no mind to the fact he was a hacking victim. He's now too paranoid to play Sony, at least atm. It's stupid BS that comes with digital content and DRM. Digital is indeed more accessible, but it has flaws like this. No way to tell if it's a full refund, or something more like a trade-in. So of course that's why piracy flourishes.....
I guess one rule of note for success is, a balance at a high level of accessibility (where piracy is basically close to the highest level possible. Hence why it's a thing at all.), appeal (Wiimote? Yeah. They sold Wii on the premise that anyone can be familiar with it. They were right. Meanwhile, Gamecube looked kiddish to ppl compared to the "mature consoles", and Wii U was "just an accessory".), and quality. (Remember the Nintendo Seal of Quality? It existed for a reason.)
I never actually bothered much with those games after it became apparent I couldn't hold a connection. The idea of being banned, even if just for a few minutes, just cause internet dropped? No thanks.
Yeah. Tbh, you seem really relatable in terms of interaction. I've built up years of poor experiences further affecting my mental state. I can't count how many times I've been given the "We've gone over this already" rant. I dunno which friends I can trust to be open with me in some cases. Very few are open enough that I just know if I bother them, they'll speak up to make it apparent.
In my case, I wasn't anti-social though. Rather, my focus was such that I noticed absolutely nothing outside my focus's scope. Terrifying thinking back. Now I'm aware and suffering, with my focus scattered. Honestly? If we ended up communicating elsewhere, we'd probably get along great in both text and voice.
Also, you mentioned Kingdom Hearts UX? I still need to see what I missed. I missed out on the last handful of months of story, which is now essential to the next games, with the mobile titles delisted. I was burned out back then, and now I have to pay for it...
@Pastellioli
Speaking about Yokai Watch games, I played Yokai Watch 3 by the most.
Well, the reason I like Yokai Watch 3 by the most because it has more new Yokai from USA country in the game with new place to explore, more sub quest to do, new quickest way to explore any place with Pocket Mirapo, up to 30 times of chance for Yokai medal gacha machine, two playable characters Nate and Hayley with their different quests, the new mode Yokai Watch Blaster T that supposed to be Yokai Watch Buster 3 but it changed into T due to poor sales of Yokai Watch Busters 2 games, new 3 x 3 grids of your Yokai position during Battle, the new item Forbidden Apple that basically Master Ball of Pokemon with 100% guarantee you will get that Yokai after Battle finished and many more.
So far I have accumulated more than 345 hours of gameplay for Yokai Watch 3, but of course I played the Japanese version Yokai Watch 3 Tempura as it's impossible to find physical release of Yokai Watch 3 English version due to limited print and very inflated price if you can find one.
I played Yokai Watch 3 Tempura way more than my Yokai Watch 1 & 2 3DS, even way more often than all my Pokemon games on 3DS and Switch.
Speaking about new Animal Crossing game, I really hope the game will be Full 3D as Fantasy Life I have similar Terraforming feature like ACNH but you can enjoy the world in full 3D with rotating camera angle.
I want to see more designing aspect for new Animal Crossing like The SIMS with functional furnitures, not just for display purpose and the most important is remove the idea of Moving Out of the villagers as new Animal Crossing game better not based on GameCube version anymore.
The GameCube version was based on one of Nintendo employee who felt lonely by their friends leaving them and that's why the Moving Out villagers became the main feature in Animal Crossing (And I hate this feature so much) until in ACNH, the players given with optional choice that you can kick the villagers directly anytime and your villagers will not moving out by themselves so it gave me a pleasure to keep all my villagers without worrying to lose them when I don't play the games for very long time or I did Time Travel oftenly.
Btw, did you play Arcade games too at your local Arcade place?
I still like to play some Arcade games especially like Dance Dance Revolution, MaiMai by SEGA, Sound Voltex, Danz Base, some casual Arcade machines by UNIS Technology like Rampage Raccoon, new Arcade experience from Luigi's Mansion Arcade at my local Arcade.
I personally prefer Skill based Arcade machines as I want my money spent is worthy from how long I can play and it based on Skill, not by Luck.
There are too many Luck based Arcade machines in my hometown such as crane machines, ticket machines, and it looked like casino machines to me rather than pure Arcade game machines.
I avoided those "casino style machines" despite some of them offered way more tickets to win, but I have less interest to redeem the tickets as I don't feel really worthy to redeem the tickets as the rewards are common items like foods / drinks, stationary, cooking utensils, etc are very common items that I can get them without collecting the tickets from Arcade that I can spend with cheaper price than by spending the money from winning the tickets from Arcade machine. I still have common sense so I will not get into "casino style machines".
@Mariotag Yeah, usually from internet issues or the game just choosing not to work. It’s been a while since I’ve played an online game. I usually prefer single-player offline games.
Yeah, I haven’t ever attempted a no Spirit run for WOL, but I can already tell it’s hard. I do remember seeing a clip of a professional player trying to win a Spirit battle against a Donkey Kong while not using a single Spirit, but he lost despite how hard he fought, which tells me that Spirits are almost always needed for WOL or any Spirit battle unless you want a bad experience playing…it’s also why I never liked using Spirits during normal Smash battles. They can far overpower the enemy and make the game so unfun and unbalanced. I was very close to 100% on my file, but it’s stuck at around 98%-99%. I’m not sure what I’m missing, given I got all endings and all captured fighters…maybe I missed a Spirit battle or two, but I swear I cleared all the maps of Spirits.
I see, so it was a very similar plot to one of the mainline games and they sort of reused story points for a few of the characters appearing in it? And I did forget about Zant and Ghirahim being playable in Hyrule Warriors. Thank you for the reminder!
Whoops, sorry! And it was his mother’s card that got hacked? Ouch, and the fact that Sony didn’t do anything to help just sucks. They sounded like they were way more distracted with the money they were owed from those purchased games than actually helping with the hacked card. Just shows that companies aren’t too helpful with some things, and it kind of proves the whole “multi-billion dollar companies aren’t your friends” thing with how much they can mess your account up and be unwilling to help. I do think digital has advantages, but the way DRM is mostly managed is not one of them.
Yeah, honestly a game is far more unenjoyable if it has trashy internet. Looking at you Overwatch! Had an awful time playing it back in December from server issues.
I definitely hope I can get rid of my social awkwardness and get better at talking, but it makes me seriously regret my decisions in the past. If I had actually been less paranoid with making friends then maybe I could have been better at talking and interacting better.
Even despite how hard I tried I missed out on the last few moments and cutscenes from the story because of the enemy levels getting far too high for me and the amount of Jewels I wasted trying to complete levels when I was defeated by enemies. Honestly the ending was kind of disappointing when I saw it once KHUX went offline and was reduced to just a cutscene viewer with no gameplay. There were a lot of questions I had after seeing the ending, but I know it’ll probably be a while till they answer some of them…they seem to be now introducing more elements and characters from KHUX into the new games since I was able to recognize the girl that appeared in the trailer for KH4, so maybe they’ll finally give answers to it? Honestly, I’m not too into KH a lot with the story, but I still want to see what the answers are to the ending for KHUX.
@Pastellioli Yeahhh. I play Monster Hunter, so, freshly reintroduced to that issue here.
Yeahh. The "Floor is Lava" and heavy winds objectives are literally impossible for the most part in a no spirits run. I got somewhere, but not beyond the first phase. Spirits being overpowered is exactly why I tried to do a run like that. I didn't want to make it trivial, or to "cheat" by using spirits! As for where you've missed, the Lost Woods are a definite possibility.
The main point in Fates for example, was trying to end a bitter war between two countries, with a singular royal belonging to both royal families. While the original game's plot featured a LOT of meddling, with one of the meddling characters as the arc antagonist in FEW, FEW did not feature anywhere near as much. Fates had a lot hidden behind the scenes, and honestly, I never did figure out why things were so different in such a specific way depending on your choice. Awakening's plot carries over one or two antagonists, maybe the main one tbh, and Lucina's introduction. Core points are there. Then you have Marth's group, already assembled, complete with DLC character in tow, with one of the OG game's main antagonists playing a role in that part of the arc.
The main games, particularly the classic ones, tend to start the war off in a close to home fashion. So of course, just like Sacred Stones, where the female lead of the siblings has the opening chapter to escape her home under attack, FEW starts with a pair of siblings escaping their royal home.
And yeah. Ghirahim and Zant were Ganon's minions there.
Yeah. Card got hacked, they didn't care. Someone eventually apparently did care, hence the temporary unban, but got overruled. DRM is a nightmare. I want to own what I buy. His position of having bought a $720+ console, along with a collection of games, a sub, and losing access to it alongside his data and trophies is completely insane. I appreciate being able to make digital purchases, but I do not appreciate the possibility they can be yanked on a whim.
Overwatch...ah yes...That game a friend persuaded my to shell out for, only for my distaste of computer gaming, combined with it being near unplayable, to make me regret listening. Having said that...kitsune.
Honestly, that is a different core issue from what I had. I simply didn't notice other things besides my explicit interests at the time. Either way, now it's a problem. If ppl don't speak up, it's difficult for me to notice or have an idea of how to react. Silence draws ppl in, not casts them out. Also, if you choose to interact with me elsewhere, you can expect a genuine effort from me, not only on my end, but to be patient with you.
I do recall Strelitzia from KHuX, yes. In my case, I played the game while part of one of the game's guild equivalents. In terms of social, it was a failure on my part in the end. Partly due to the "Lucky Emblems" in KH3 driving me nuts. I kept asking for help while too afraid to look them up outright. Beyond that though, the group absolutely did hold expectations for each player. I would have had no problem finishing the story, as normal mode enemies would fall in one hit still as far as I was, with bosses taking slightly more. I do know some spoilers, like a possible deeper relationship between Ventus and Vanitas than initially explained. The new game is very much set up to take on the plot elements of the mobile games. KH3 itself actually has a scene where the highest ranking players from a competition from the mobile game have their usernames appear. The secret ending also has five key characters from KHUX appear outright, one of them having been in the series as early as KH2. I'm a nerd for the series, and Nomura planned way too much in advance.
@Mariotag
There was Luigi's Mansion Arcade 10 years ago. Developed by CAPCOM, published by Nintendo.
The gameplay is like Ghostbusters style which you will automatically walk to another places from 1st person view, capture & defeat all the ghosts you encountered.
This is the machine at my local Arcade.
