What the hell, I didn't know ALL PS3 units were PS1 compatible. Even my Super Slim will do it? LOL Holy fart. I have GTA1, I'll have to test this out wow since seeing is believing at this point. I looked it up and it seems to be true, but amongst game stores, they don't seem to be aware haha. I've been told 100% of the time that only certain PS3 units go backwards, and that basically at a point all backwards comp. was dropped on new units.

WHY DID I BELIEVE THESE LIES?
It seems like because PS1 is so distant in the past to most people, it's been forgotten and nobody bothered to remember for me. I've only had my PS3 for maybe 3 years, so oops. Besides, who the hell thinks "oh it must allow me to use the REALLY old games, not the sorta old ones"?
