You guys took most of your language from the Germanic tribes and Romans and just tweaked it, anyway. You'd probably still be speaking a smattering of Brythonic and a mixture of who knows what else if you hadn't.

Despite our excesses and current moral/economic deterioration, we've done quite a lot for the world. We're not the kings of it, but it's hard to deny the historical significance of such a prosperous entity. We've been given much, speaking as a citizen born into it, and I feel that makes us responsible for even more. (speaking more about attitude and giving back, rather than playing world police)
