@ irken Tell me about it. Even Brandon Routh looked more like Superman than this new guy. He could've been Reeve's twin. I don't know why people didn't like Superman Returns. I thought it was really neat.

@Link79 Pretty much the only thing I HATED (though there were other errors) about it was casting errors with the actresses. Parker Posey should've been Lois Lane and Kate Bosworth as Kitty. Or fire Kate and get another Kitty. She didn't have what it takes for either part IMO. And actually, this guy looks far more intimidating as Superman (not that that equates to a better Man of Steel). At first look, Neither Christopher nor Brandon really strike fear into the heart of criminals. @Joetherocker They should've saved the guy playing Nuclear Man for Die Hard. Would've fit right in with Hans Gruber's gang.
He's the Cliffy B of movie directors, his attitude comes off as yet another "dudebro", with his all flash, no substance style of film-making. Watchmen was terrible. Dawn of the Dead was awesome, but zombies aren't supposed to run (that's one of the main rules of Romero's zombie films). (I never saw 300, but heard it got good reviews)
I thought Brandon Routh was under contract to play Superman for at least 3 films. What happened? Superman Returns was successful, why the need for a reboot/reimagining?
@ Tendoboy1984 I heard Brandon's contract ran out because they were taking so long with the script. He was supposed to be in at least one sequel but everybody got tired of waiting and dropped out. It was eventually scrapped and Routh went on to do other things I guess. Though I can't name a single movie he was in since then. Seems like a lost opportunity to me. I would've liked to see him in more Superman movies.

Actually Brandon Routh was contracted to do 2 more Superman movies but since Superman Returns was a flop box office wise they cancelled the other 2 movies. By the time they decided to work on Superman: Man of Steel his contracted ran out and Brandon decided not to renew it since they wanted to go in a new direction he thought it would just be weird if he was Superman in this reboot as well.
As for movies that hes been in he was most recently in Scott Pilgrim Vs the World and Dylan Dog.
Personally I liked Dean Cain alot as Superman

I know right? I loved Superman Returns and I also thought that Brandon Routh was Christopher Reeves son as he looked so much like him until I learned his name Routh and not Reeves.
I'm not so confident in the new Superman: The Man of Steel either. While I'm happy it's a Superman film I am more worried about the tone of it. I hope it's not going to be like Batman The Dark Knight. I hope it'll be the Superman that I know and love.
I was raised on the Christopher Reeves Superman films. The Reeves films embodied the spirit of America much like Marvel's Chris Evans successful Captain America: The First Avenger does and I don't appreciate those who rant off about how cheesy the Reeves or Singer Superman is thus insulting my childhood memories.
As a child I had no real interest in comic books until I saw C. Reeves Superman movies and because of them I've been a faithful comic book fan ever since following major events such as E3, ComicCon, Celebration V, DragonCon and D23.
Because of Reeves Superman films and G. Lucas's Star Wars saga I am a better person. My faith as in America and as an American, and as a Christian been strengthened thanks to the integrity of Superman's embodiment of 'Truth, Justice and the American Way' as depicted by Christopher Reeves. The Star Wars cycle, The Reeves Superman movies and Singer's Superman Returns all had moral and spiritual messages interwoven within them and that is part of the reason they are highly praised and should be respected.
The dark and gritty Batman: The Dark Knight films could never have done such a thing for me.

Saw it today. Amy Adams is a great Lois Lane, that's about it.
It was terrible.

Anyway back on topic, hopefully going to go this weekend and see it. A few co workers of mine said they liked it alot.

Haven't watched it yet since cinema prices are expensive as heck here. Dam you!
I think this is easily going to be the best Superman film bar none. I really liked Returns because of some of the action sequences, but other than that, the story was dreadfully boring and dull. While Man of Steel actually shows what Clark had to go through as a child, which even Smallville failed to do.
Hopefully they'll make a trilogy out of it like what they did with the Dark Knight.
That movie became my favorite of all time! The story, characters, action, CG, music, etc all was phenomenal! I smiled throughout most of the movie hyped up. It was AMAZING.
I'm glad Luthor isn't in it. I never really thought he was a good villain. Superman could fly him off to some deserted island in the middle of the Pacific, paralyze him, or just kill him in a nanosecond, which makes his continued villainy more Superman's fault than anything else. Especially since jails don't appear to work on him at all.
I've never really liked Superman all that much since his only weakness is being a moron and bumbling into a trap where somebody has kryptonite. It doesn't make for much drama. Plus he's always seemed kind of cheesy to me for some reason.
Plus Superman IV has most likely completely destroyed all respect I had for him before (And after III, that wasn't a lot)
And the whole "Flying around the earth so fast it stops rotating and goes backwards which should actually be killing everybody and has nothing to do with time" and "Putting on glasses makes you a completely different person" things.
But since Nolan's involved, I'm hoping this can make me like him more.
Seeing this from two years ago is great. The most he was in it was when SPOILER Superman and Zod are fighting, they crash through an oil truck that says LexCorp on it. That's it. I was so happy. Also a Casey's General Store was in it, which is an Iowa based company. I was so happy.

So the next movie has already been announced and it'll be including Batman!

Was announced at San Diego Comoc-con by Christopher Nolan himself.
Huh? I saw a video of Zach Snyder announcing it, not Christopher Nolan. Did Nolan show up to Comic Con? Doesn't seem like something he'd do. He's never gone to a Comic Con before, I don't think.

Striking fear into the hearts of criminals is Batman's schtick. Either way, if you're a criminal, I'm sure how Superman looks matters less than what he's capable of.
PS: I loved Superman Returns as a fantastic ending to the Reeve films, a better ending for the silver-age version of the character and nothing else. It's an utter betrayal to the post-crisis version of the character, but I never expected it to be the post-crisis Superman. Man Of Steel, however, was a good movie that finally showed the post-crisis version of Superman.
