Soon Americans who have Netflix subscription to get DVDs by mail will no longer be using Netflix, because the DVD-by-mail service will be run by Qwikster.
Let me explain, in turns out that Netflix will be separating DVD rentals and streaming and letting them evolve by giving them exclusive content individually. DVD rentals and streaming are becoming more different. The company realizes that Netflix users are watching streaming TV series more than streaming movies and watching movies by mail more than TV series by mail.
The Netflix brand will be streaming only and Qwikster brand will be DVD/Blueray only. One of the exclusive content for Netflix users that are paying for DVD-by-mail service will be able to rent Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii games with no extra fee.
What do you think of the changes? (note that this is why they increase the prices recently)
It's still Netflix it will just come across as two bills (Same Price) a DVD bill (Qwikster) and a Streaming bill (Netflix).
Also the video game package is a upgrade option.
"Qwikster will be the same website and DVD service that everyone is used to. It is just a new name, and DVD members will go to qwikster.com to access their DVD queues and choose movies. One improvement we will make at launch is to add a video games upgrade option, similar to our upgrade option for Blu-ray, for those who want to rent Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 games. Members have been asking for video games for many years, but now that DVD by mail has its own team, we are finally getting it done. Other improvements will follow. A negative of the renaming and separation is that the Qwikster.com and Netflix.com websites will not be integrated."

That is a terrible move. So you will need two separate accounts for each service, meaning you will have to pay for both separately? Or does that mean they won't share ratings or queues?
Also, since Qwikster is a separate division now, people can just get a Qwikster account without signing up for Netflix, right?
On the game rental bit, Qwikster/Netflix won't be able to compete with GameFly. They have the largest selection of games.
Blockbuster online has had games and blu-ray for years now at no extra cost
Exactly this is just another attempt at going after Blockbuster. Netflix should have stayed the way they were rather than trying to be like Blockbuster Online. They are seriously getting greedy here.
If Qwikster maintains the shipping speeds of Netflix, has a big enough stock of games to always send me what I want, and adds 3DS and Vita games then I am without a doubt definitely sold on switching from Gamefly. Netflix is much quicker than Gamefly. The only thing holding me back from switching right away is wanting to play handheld games too and I'd like to see how they do at getting out the high demand games to everyone who wants them.

@soccer686: Yep I have ran into that problem too with Blockbuster Online. In fact even when the game at the top of my list says its available they send me one that's in the middle of my list.

People are freaking out over this and while I know Netflix hasn't really handled it well, I don't think it's even close to being as much of a big deal as people are making it out to be.
I don't mean this site really but I have saw other places where you would think it's the end of the world.

that's strange, I only see it as good competition for Gamefly. Now hopefully one of them will do it right.
