@Odnetnin Sigh...looks like I might have to start another playthrough then :-/ I'm on Normal Mode so...yeah. Lame. Oh well, it's really not hard to get to where I am now. The only thing that sucked was having to make that jump over Professor Booster. It should really only take a few hours but still...LAME!

Weird that you had such a hard time w/ Booster. You used the red spot as a jumping-off point, right? My hour-long problem was getting Curly into the cabin. That was a total nightmare. And Normal? Yikes. I only play on Easy when attempting to beat the Sanctuary.
I don't really like demos for games I'm going to play anyway, and I'd rather use my Wii than my laptop for gaming, so I took a chance and bought the game. Wow, those 70-80 minutes went by quickly. Even though I haven't gotten far and I'm on Easy Mode, I've already died like ten times. But it's fun!

Ooooh, I wasn't implying that it took me an hour to do the Booster jump. I was saying that, total, to get back to the point where I'm at now, it would take a few hours. The Booster jump is annoying, but only because you have to completely reset the game if you screw it up. Didn't take but a few tries, though.
So, easy mode, eh? Feels like cheating but I'll try it

I bought the WiiWare version at release, but never finished it because I got fed up with the glitches. I've long since downloaded the updated version, but never bothered to go back and play it. I plan to start on it for the Club soon. I figure I'll start with what I was going for before: A blind run, where I just play how I want and deal with whatever comes up. I can go for endings on subsequent attempts with walkthroughs.
My Backloggery Updated sporadically. Got my important online ID's on there, anyway. :P

Wait untill you get to Hard Mode......... I'm only half way done to beating it...
And, on another note, I beat Time Attack in 3'59"4
For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. [url=http://www.backloggery.com/jumpmad]Unive...
If you have the WiiWare version there's a Curly Mode where...well, you play as Curly. It's not possible on any other version of the game, though.
On topic, I started running back through the game (on easy, which is incredibly lame) so I can grab the Nemesis and have a better shot at beating The Sanctuary. In less than two hours I beat the first Sand Zone boss and got four of the five dogs. Making pretty good time, I'd say. Had to stop playing for the day on account of homework, but I should get to the Sanctuary by Tuesday or Wednesday at this rate. I'm hoping if I can beat it in a reasonable amount of time I'll do another run through and try it on Normal.

When they updated the game, they locked the extra features from the start. So I guess you'd have to beat the game to unlock Curly Mode, I dunno. I just know my main menu now has three question mark spaces where there were once features. They probably made that change because people complained that having that stuff available up front messed up game and/or story flow.
I'm saved at Sand Zone now, still doing the "play my way" file, which means I did trade for the machine gun. I'm playing on easy, and it's hard enough that I don't even wanna THINK about trying a harder mode.
On another note, I've noticed that this thread already has a LOT more unlabeled spoilers on it than the Paper Mario one did. That's kind of ruining the whole point of the Club for me.

Sorry man Thankfully, I don't think anyone's brought up any major plot points or anything, but we'll be sure to start labeling things as spoilers from now on. Just maybe to clarify for everyone (me included, as I'm new to the club) what qualifies as a spoiler? Are we talking simply specific plot points and Boss details or do you not want to know anything about the game?

Guys, please don't let this thread devolve into a walkthrough of how to beat the game, since that's the way it's going. Let's get a bit more discussion of what we thought about parts of the game as or after we play them, because this game has a lot of classic story and gameplay moments which have gone unmentioned.
Time attacks and choosing different endings and optional stages are all well and good but we're here to have a running commentary about the game itself and what it was like to play it, not write up a list of tips on how to optimally finish the game.

Of course we need to post spoilers and I encourage talking about the game in full detail. We want loads of spoilers in this thread - but we also want them all to be marked so new players can avoid them as they wish.
Basically Stuffgamer1 has it right - play it "your way" (walkthrough or not, your choice) and mark spoilers to allow people to play it their way without intruding on their experience. In the Paper Mario thread we treated all discussion of the game past the beginning as spoilers because it's a story-heavy RPG. Read that thread a bit if you're unsure.
Spoilers for Cave Story include plot points, important game events and player choices which players shouldn't know about beforehand. You should mark spoilers if you name a boss or described how you beat it.
SPOILERS - STORY CHOICES
Some examples include spoiler marking anything to do with choosing not to switch guns with Curly, as well as refusing the Booster 0.8, or even that you go to the Egg Corridor a second time and it's changed dramatically. If it could possibly ruin the experience for someone without any prior knowledge, mark it. If someone needs help with those things then let them ask and then reply to their question.
Alright I finally got to the Sacred Grounds. AAARGH! SO HARD! Any tips for the second room? The one where you're carrying Curly and you have to shoot the little angels while the blocks fall from the ceiling. I don't have the Nemesis, which I now realize was a big mistake. I didn't really understand how to unlock it, though. I've got the spur, but it doesn't seem to be too helpful in that room. Seems like the bubbline would be the ideal weapon, but I can't level it up fast enough. Any tips?
That whole post is rife with unmarked spoilers. Read it as a new player with no knowledge of Cave Story and you'll see what I mean.
I got kinda hooked on DQIX, and I've been busy with that game thing, so haven't started playing it yet. Gonna blast through on Normal Mode. Cleared it on Easy mode and I thought that was difficult enough. Hard mode is going to destroy me xD
Wow, I'm usually not drawn to games like this, so thanks NL Game Club (HolyMackerel) for suggesting this! I'm not far, just to the Bushlands, but I'm loving it!
