@Gioku - Thank you but I don't think I'm hardcore, just very picky. I have no pony toys or anything physical. Just a couple drawings for an older feature here that died off, a few fics read and "worked" at and a few fan videos is all I've gotten into.
@Twilight_Crow - Well that answers my question on if the flash backs would be you favourite thing or if you would despise them for showing an area you like reading possibilities for.
As for the plants, they stopped when the unicorns stopped using magic, so it makes sense they stopped spraying that pollen/powder everywhere.

@Aqueous: Well okay. I've slowly been getting more into it as I've gone along; I've done a couple of drawings and I've been photoshopping stuff (like my avatar). All the physical paraphernalia I have actually belongs to my little sister, though, lol. But I basically unconditionally love the show, though! Kinda like how I am with Spongebob, I always enjoy that, to this day. I mean, there's not much to complain about in cartoons, I think. If a cartoon is colorful and fun enough, I'll enjoy it! ...much like my taste in video games, lol.
So I watched episode 3! ...the following spoiler contains my thoughts:
That was a pretty fun episode! The main thing I got out of it, though, is that I seem to be way too emotionally attached to Fluttershy, lol. I got kinda worried when she hurt her wing - though fortunately it turned out to be nothing! And I felt really sad for her when she got so upset when she thought Angel had been crushed...! I don't want to see her like that...! ...but again, I'm way too emotionally attached, lol. Anyway, I should've seen it coming, but I lol'd so hard when the shadow pony was just Pinkie, haha! They played me right into that one, lol. My quote of the day today is from Pinkie: "Sometimes I let my imagination run away from me. And the it comes back! With cake!"
But guys! The star spiders are something, I know it! They wouldn't show them to us like that and have them never do anything again... right? And so is the real shadow pony; I'm interested to see what happens with that.
All in all, I enjoyed it a lot. Classic "everyone's in the same place causing problems for each other inadvertently" sort of deal, lol. And I noticed the show sort of, well, it "sounds different" than it once did. I can tell it's been evolving over time.
@Nuuzen: I believe WayForward awhile ago expressed a desire to make a MLP:FiM game. ...I'm not sure I'd trust them with it, though... if they did as good a job as they did with Adventure Time it'd be awesome... but they have been known to take a few missteps as well...
@Gioku I really liked Hey Ice King on the 3DS, although I've heard that Explore the Dungeon was pretty terrible. WayFoward is among my favorite 3rd party devs, and it'd be cool to see them take on MLP, but you're right about their hit-to-miss ratio.
One of these days, I will get back to the RP......I said I would, and the S3 premier gave me even more incentive, but for the life of me, I keep getting caught up in other stuff! Arghhhh!!!
I wonder what type of game WayForward would make if they had the chance at the MLP license. I remember an idea I had long ago about making an MLP game on the DS that played along the lines of Lost Vikings, where you'd have control of certain characters and each one had different abilities that no other had, and you had to use them together to get through each level.
@Nuuzen - I haven't been keeping up on who's new around here, so unless you've been here for a bit...."Welcome to the herd!"
I believe WayForward awhile ago expressed a desire to make a MLP:FiM game.
Their colorful, detailed sprite-based aesthetic would be perfect for a MLP game.
They need to make it. For the 3DS. I would so pay full price for that game.
Also, concerning episode 3 I thought it was a lot of fun. It was nice to have an irreverent, sitcom-ish episode after the lore and plot-heavy season premiere. Also love that they loosely tied it into the season-long story arc. Fluttershy's reactions when she thinks Angel is getting crushed are hilarious (HATE that rabbit). Not sure how I feel about the new plot device for delivering moral lessons... I had thought by this point that the show was past spelling out the Moral Lesson of the Week. There were very few letters to the princess in Season Three, and it really didn't suffer for lack of them.
@Discostew Actually, something along the lines of The Lost Vikings will work great for FIM, or something like the Lego games, where every characters abillity is needed. They should make all the mane 6 playable at least.
@Nuuzen Welcome to the NL herd. I hope someone will draw one of these very odd good ol' welcoming comics for you.
So nice to see some activity here again.
Also, i hope all the US folks had a nice thanksgiving.
I stop reading the thread shortly before season 4 started, and came back on today to find 3 pages of stuff I haven't read, not to mention new and returning faces. Sniff. It's great to see the thread blow up in activity when show comes back on.
So, Season 4 is finally upon us. Well, it has been for a week, but I've been so lazy lately I didn't watch Princess Twilight Sparkle until yesterday, and I have yet to watch episode 3.
(Speaking of which, I love NL's new spoiler tag. It makes this thread readable without having watched the latest episode. Not to mention every time I open one I feel like I just obtained something important. )
So, we're discussing our favorite and least favorite episodes per season? Well, I have mixed feelings towards seasons 2 and 3 and can't really pick out some definite favorites, but I can pick out some favorites from season 1. I loved Bridle Gossip because I like ideas that could never be matched in real life, like the Poison Joke, and those kinds of ideas are part of the reason I love to watch cartoons to this day. I also love Feeling Pinkie Keen and Green Isn't Your Color (I just got the joke of that name, after two years of being a brony. ) for Pinkie Pie's antics. As far as least favorites go, I can pick out a episode for each season. I didn't like Call of the Cutie, as I know how it feels to be in Applebloom's situation, and it ain't fun. Return of Harmony squeezed the living happiness out of my heart with how the Mane 6 acted when colormuted. And Spike at Your Service has to be the worst and most lazily crafted episode of the show. The other two least favorites I mentioned are not my favorites, but I know those are just personal opinion/preference. I think we can all agree that Spike at Your Service falls way below the show's quality threshold. I'm surprised that out of all the ideas for episodes they could have came up with, they decided to make an episode severely bending the character of the center character of the episode in order to fit him into one of the most cliche cartoon plots of all time. I really hope they don't do an episode like this again, if just to get a Spike episode out, or in a stretch to come up with another episode for the third season, or whatever their reasoning was to put out an episode that low in quality.
Alright, I don't have much to say about Princess Twilight Sparkle, but here goes some stuff. /me guesses at the spoiler tag name.
First thing I have to say: Is it just me, or has Princess Celestia been expressing more emotion in her face in these two episodes than in any of her previous appearances? I like that, it helps subdue the "troll" image given to her by the fandom to see her face so animated and her feelings so much stronger than before.
Also, the first time Twilight drank the potion,am I the only one that thought she, Celestia, and Luna were all transported to a parallel dimension where Luna turned into Nightmare Moon again? I'm glad that didn't actually happen, that would have been extremely lazy plot writing
Also, after watching the episode, I began to hate the idea of Princess Twilight more than before. Yeah, we knew it was likely that Twilight would keep her wings, but the reality of the situation didn't hit me until now. Twilight's going to be an alicorn for the rest of the show. She can now be considered more "important" than the rest of the Mane 6, and yeah, she could have been considered the "MAIN main" character of the show before, especially with having been the sole writer of friendship letters in the first season and being the center of the show's opening. But with Season 2 opening up with the idea that Twilight no longer had to be in every episode, the idea that Twilight was the mainest of the Manes was thrown out of my mind, and I'm sure that was the show's intention with that move. So why was Twilight now given more importance out of the rest of the Mane 6? Why couldn't they gibe her temporary alicornship? Wouldn't that satisfy Hasbro's demands without breaking the show? However, while I am mad at the decision, I'm not as mad as Aqueous. The main reason I testify against Princess Twilight as that the show will now focus more on her than the rest of the Mane 6, and there's still possibility for that to be false. I'll reserve the rest of my judgement until the end of the season, when I'll determine if I want to keep watching this show.
I'm pretty okay.

We had a nice episode leaked this week . I just saw it today, it was funny, liked it, but I think some parts felt forced before and after the main plot, and there were some lose ends. Need to watch it some more, expect some deeper thoughts during the week.
FoTW
The very epic fighting scene from last week's second episode reminded me of tonight's awesome story, which was actually barely completed, so the ==Fic of The Week== presents: We Fight as One by chaos2012
[On Fimfiction Dark Complete Teen]
After betraying the bearers of the Elements of Harmony and taking them out of the picture, Discord, the spirit of Chaos, shows his true colors and once again uses his power for his own will.
Realizing that Discord has no intention of stopping, Celestia and Luna decide to face Discord in a final showdown. His powers are too great for them to fight when they are in their current form however, but perhaps two alicorns are not needed. Maybe only one.
Inspired by the artwork that it uses as its cover, this piece describes an epic battle completely anime style, including the way it depicts violence and drama, so expect some over the top stuff; even some music to go along. Not too big and not too short, it is a very fun read that shouldn't be taken too seriously.
Nice writing.
Sorry to not be around again for a bit. Busy busy busy is the name of my game for now. I'll hopefully get some time off before Christmas, but we'll see.
@Nuuzen Welcome to the NL Herd, I hope you enjoy your stay! Time to roll out the welcome wagon!
@ToastyYogurt I actually only spelt out my least favorite episode in the series, but I like the concept with seasons. I still won't be able to discern which for every season though. And I think it is unanimous. Spike at your service is terrible, and I hope they never pull an episode like that again.
@Discostew Looking at Discord with the Santa hat, he kind looks like a reindeer to me for some reason.
@CorporalPegasus I wish I could, but time is not really on my side for me. I could just draw some doodles perhaps, but I've got so much going on for now.
@Gioku I look forward to your next avatar change. you really did a great job with the one you currently have, and I must say that I liked your photoshoped art too.
@Aqueous Glad you decided to watch. I must say that I would have missed your analysis of the episodes going forward.
@Twilight_Crow I look forward to your look at the episode that aired. And I've saved both stories to my read list, and your art pics are both awesome.
And if anyone is looking for episode 3, and wants an HD version, here it is.
And since everyone likes to give their opinions on what happened, I'll do the same. First up is the premier episodes...
I loved the premier episode. At first I was a bit skeptical that they could pull off the transition from last season to the 4th, but most of the questions were answered from the loose story threads that were left hanging. Albeit, I say most, but it's always nice in my eyes to have some mystery in the air to allow people to think of their own solutions. One of the great things of the fandom I believe, is that they love to fill in the blanks themselves, and we get all of these comics, stories, and art depicting the things and solutions that have not been gone over yet in the actual show.
I digress though. I just found the 2-parter story to be great overall. I do believe they may have tried to cram to many fan service scenes in here, but the episode still holds up well. And Discord was, well... you all know how Discord is. He literally steals every scene that he is in, and his opening into the episode with Winter Wrap Up was priceless. That being said, having to much Discord can hurt an episode, with all the attention with the story just getting tossed aside with more of his wordplay and gags. I think his showing here was well balanced though, if maybe Discord was having the attention a little to much perhaps. But who can hate Discord. Especially when he actually helps Twilight and friends save the day, or did he want Twilight to fail? This is why I love Discord in the position he is in. You don't know what he may be planning or thinking.
And then there is the Tree of Harmony. I never expected them to use a tree as the thing that holds Equestria together. But with the whole story concept, I believe it works well. Having the elements actually originate from the tree brings a whole new layer to the mythology of Equestria, and helps to link into why Twilight is going in the direction she is. Though if you look at it a certain way, saying a tree is why Twilight is on the course she is can sound a bit silly, but it gives that little reason at least. I'm still hoping for a little more insight as to why she had to become a princess then in Magical Mystery Cure, but this satisfies my hunger for now, and I hope they elaborate just a bit more later on.
And I loved the little character reactions between the mane six, and how the status hasn't really changed with Twilight's new title. Sure, they felt they needed to send her back to keep her safe, but that little detail was handled quickly and was brushed under the rug relatively fast. More time again would be appreciated to see that plot point expanded on a little, but with time constraints, I can see why they did what they did.
Overall, great episode, and a strong opening for the new season. I can't wait to see where they take it.
And next is the latest episode.
I'll first start off by saying that was a fantastic episode. It was something different while still keeping the charm of the series I love. Rority had some excellent moments on screen (and sometimes off. That surprised laughter from finding that tapestry. ), and I enjoyed seeing Rainbow's and AJ's rivalry take place inside the castle.
I have to feel sorry for Fluttershy though when she thought Angel had been crushed by a pillar. She's never struck me as one of the best characters, but her part is integral in rounding out the personalities of the mane six, and she's a good character especially for an episode about scary castles. But seeing her going after what she thought was Angel I found hysterical, but also sad. I will admit though that Applejack jumping on top of what she was trying to lift just made me laugh harder from the whole situation.
And Pinkie Pie left me smiling and laughing when she came in for both the first and and final part of the episode. I never suspected her to be the one playing the organ until I got real close to the end of the episode, and then I thought, 'Yep, it's probably Pinkie Pie playing the organ.' And I was right. DHX almost got me there, and it seems to be what they are trying to do of more this season, with Discord secretly responsible for the trouble in the primer episodes.
And it was nice to get a little more info on what Celestia and Luna did back in their old castle. They seem to really be putting a little more attention to their relationship aren't they this season? I hope they continue to sprinkle little details here and there throughout the rest of the season, and maybe get an episode all about them.
And of course Twilight is till Twilight. Don't you ever change besides the wings.
And that about does it. I could say more, but I think I went a bit overboard. I can't wait for some more new episodes though!
And to add to an already long post, I found this video over the week, and I can't help but share. Enjoy!

@Aqueous: I think your hate for Magical Mystery Cure is a little too much. I understand it took your favorite pony and took her in a direction almost nobody wanted, and I can relate to that with episodes that use Pinkie Pie for little more than cheap comedic relief (I like my comedic relief to cost millions, dangit!). And beyond that, they crammed too many songs in there to feel satisfying, and it felt like it rushed through. But at least it didn't take Twilight and make her suddenly look like a mindless idiot for the sake of the plot. That's similar to what they did to Spike in Spike at Your Service, and no matter what you do with any franchise, that is something you should never do. We all have our episodes that we don't like, and they're not unanimous opinions. So as much as you hate Magical Mystery Cure, I think we can all agree that Spike at Your Service is the only truly bad episode.
I'm pretty okay.

@ToastyYogurt - No, I don't. Sorry but I can't call it the only bad episode and I'll leave it as the worst. I've looked past Twilicorn in calling it the worst. Plot points and details were skipped often for musical pieces and it was rushed. The Spike at your service had what I think was cgi or some other weird art style for the timberwolves which looked dread full. I know Spike was way off, with his behavior of making the occasional mistake put as his whole character for an episode which was an issue. It didn't skip details in the plot though and the other characters were played as normal as were done very well and I give it credit for that. It is a bad episode, but hardly what I'd call their worst.

I never realized that "Spike at Your Service" was so disliked! ...I liked it just fine when I saw it... of course, I could say that about any episode... I liked them all just fine!
