This is a long read, but a great one indeed. The reporter actually got to question Fils-Aime himself on the issue, and this is in the article as well.
A few quotes I found really interesting in the article.
"But certainly it seems like, when content is being created and made available for free, that it is devaluing content, and is potentially devaluing the expectation of consumers for what content should be."
... and then went on later to say this... "We were convinced that as soon as consumers had that game and had that experience, that they'd share it and talk about it and it would be something that consumers would want," Fils-Aime said. "That strategy has worked. From the day that we stopped making it available for free, we've actually sold more than what we had initially made available for free. So, strategically, it's looking at each piece of content and deciding what's the best way to have consumers experience the content and maintain its value over time." .... when asked about Nintendo placing Photo Dojo on DSiWare for Free themselves, and using the same strategy that many of the Free games use on iOS/Android devices.
*"Nintendo cannot play a role of limiting in any way the content that's available for our platform," This is a completely false statement! Nintendo does limit what games are on it's system just as all the systems do. This quote was received when he was asked about the amount of low quality games on the Wii.
While I do agree with Nintendo on this issue for the most part. I do think that the topic should have never been brought up publicly by a Nintendo spokesperson.
"It wasn't too long ago that Brain Age and Nintendogs were the rage. And then there was Wii Sports. Those were Nintendo games on Nintendo machines and Nintendo was the company the news vans had started to drive toward. The hottest explosion in gaming now, though, is on iTunes and on Facebook".
I have to say this quote from the reporter makes a bit of sense too. Nintendo was just themselves in the limelight, and then come back with this Apple talk, whether true or not, it does look bad on the company in my eyes. Nintendo is hot on the release of one of the most innovative consoles in history with the 3DS, and this Apple talk just doesn't make sense right now. Why would Nintendo be filling the journalist pages with this right now instead of 3DS hype?

Sounds like Reggie just dug him self a hole, that he can't get out of. I see no reason why Nintendo see this as a problem, unless they didn't come up with The idea them selfs.
