My friend and I are always constantly debating on whether the PS5 or Nintendo Switch is the better console. Of course I'm on team Switch, but I can never find any good or convincing arguments. The most I can come up with is that the Switch is a hybrid console and it has better exclusives than PS5. Can some of you guys help me get some more pros about the Switch or Nintendo in general? Thanks.
In terms of performance and speed? Are you kidding it’s no contest, the graphical quality and the size of first party’s? Probably PlayStation again. In terms of which is more worth it to a person and which is more fun, depends on the person, and is subjective, some might not enjoy any of the games the ps5 offers, and they enjoy the games of the switch, but also enjoy carrying it around, and vice versa.
So from what I can see, you said the good aspects of the switch, but it having better exclusives in again, subjective, everything else performance, graphics, and power wise? Ps5 beats the switch in all of it.
@GreenNinja500
PS5 is better for 3rd party games.
Nintendo Switch is better for 1st party games.
I personally prefer PS5 than Switch since I prefer 3rd party games than 1st party games.
Nintendo Switch is still not strong enough to handle heavy games like Planet Coaster on PS4 / PS5, some of 3rd party multi console games have worse performance on Switch version (30 fps for Switch but 60 fps for PS4 / PS5, choppy graphics, longer loading time, vulnerable to crash, need partial download, code in box treatments, streaming only).
It reminds me N64 vs PS1 situation.
In terms of raw power (higher level graphics, fps, resolution) PS5 blows it out of the water. In terms of convenience, Switch has it beat thanks to it's portable/tabletop capabilities. That's about as far as it goes in terms of objective qualities.
In terms of the games, things get a lot more subjective. I'd say Switch is probably better for platformers, both are really good for JRPGs, PS5 is probably the better pick for FPS', Racers (particularly realistic ones) & big open world adventure games. Indies (what few I play) seem more appealing on Switch as well.
I'd say Switch definitely has the edge in terms of exclusives (though things get more tight if you consider PS4 back compat), but that's to be expected since the PS5 is just over 2 years old.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
I overwhelmingly prefer handheld gaming, so, the Switch is a no-brainer, but I also love the fact that it doubles as a home console and that you can take it over to family/friends' places. The fact that the Joy-Con essentially doubles as mini Wii Remotes is another bonus. The sheer versatility and portability wins out over any deficit in power, which isn't as drastic this console generation considering some of the beefier games that the Switch has proven itself capable of handling.
I have no interest in the PS5 whatsoever, though if I had to choose between the Xbox and PS5, I would definitely choose the latter (I hate Microsoft with a passion), but there are hardly any games on rival hardware (at least this console generation) that I yearn for on Switch, and it's probably for the best that I don't own a PS5 as I'd probably be tempted to double-dip on virtually everything, even if I never actually get around to ever playing the so-called "superior" PS5 versions.
For everything else, I have a gaming laptop anyway.
Sorry to be so blunt, who cares? Unless there's a cash prize, car or holiday to be won, it seems like a pointless endeavour debating over what is better. Those prizeless debates only serve to massage or inflate one's ego. It's an exercise in futility to debate anything with anyone who is so blindly and ineptly convinced of their own 'unerring' opinions. They wanna tell me 2+2=5. They're absolutely correct 🙄 More power to them🤣

So the answer depends on whether you value Nintendo's first party games more than all the games that aren't available on Switch yet are available on Playstation.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,251 games (as of April 24th, 2024)

For me personally no. I bought it a while back and then sold it. The exclusives i played just didn't click with me that much. Portability was a decisive factor as well.

"Do the types of games you play need all that power?"
Yup.
Especially for 3rd party multi console games.
I found most of 3rd party games on Switch for the same title oftenly have downgraded quality such as 30 fps, choppier graphics, longer loading time, more vulnerable of crash, partial download practice, streaming only, etc so I don't want to purchase the 3rd party games on Switch with those flaws like that.
And thus, I considered the PS4 or PS5 version for the same 3rd party multi console games with better specs.
In this case, I sacrificed the portability and choose better specs instead.
Portability with half baked quality games is a big no no for me.
I’m waiting on some PS5 exclusives that I personally care about, but for now it is my bluray player. I’ve got a back log of Ps4 games but nothing that has made me put down the switch.

PS5 has what? Two exclusives right now with one being a remake of a PS3 game so what do you mean by the size of the first party games? Switch has nearly 150.
The other PlayStation first party titles can be played on PS4 or PC and haven't several already come to Xbox?
So right now PS5 has no advantage over the Switch in terms of exclusives. For third party games, specs and power? Yeah it's better but then so is the PS4 and Xbox One and Series X (which is more powerful than the PS5.)
But Nintendo is absolutely dominating it for exclusives versus both Sony and Microsoft.
It's sad actually that this copypasta about PS5 is still relevant:
One game
I don't know why
I bought a PS5 with no Games to buy
Keep that in mind they designed this drive
To improve loading times
And that's all I know
In console wars, exclusives are key
Watch it fly by as it ports to PC
Lose my exclusives at the end of the gen
I have no games to play
It's so unfair
Didn't look out below
Throw my console right out the window
Try to hold on, but I didn't even know
Wasted it all just to watch movies
I spent all my time inside
Of my old games I'm tired, all I got is ports
Just like the PS3, it's reminding me of a time, of a memory, of a time when
I cried so hard, for launch titles
But in the end, it's just got no games
I paid so much, bought PS Plus
But in the end, it's just got no games
Maybe next year will be different but so far I'm disappointed in this gen for Sony exclusives. Three years and still not much to show.
Technically, the PS5 is superior in every way. In practical terms, the Switch is more versatile. But the only thing that really matters is the games. For a crude measure, the PS5 has nine games sitting at 90 or above on Metacritic. The Switch has 29. That means the Switch is more than three times as good as the PS5, right?
@Phornix Yeah it’s true that the first party’s are small, but I always found that there quality is vary high. In terms of who beats who in the first party range, definitely Nintendo, I was just saying that was one of the reason to get a ps5.
I said first party’s in the same breath of graphic quality, my bad, I meant that the first party’s were subjective as well, the part that I meant Nintendo was beat in was graphic quality.
I also do want to mention that the switch has been around for like six years now, that’s a bit of to build up a first party collection, ps5 is still fairly new, but I do hope in another year we get more first party’s.
