I'm around your age too, from my limited experience, here are a few pointers.
1. Find a format that you like and that will accomodate what you have to say.
2. List your accomplishments, experiences, awards, etc, followed by an explanation of what you did. Explanations should be kept brief, no more than 5 lines.
3. In your explanation, start the sentence with the action you did. For example, if you volunteered at a hospital by cheering up kids, say "Entertained and Occupied children in the Pediatric recovery area" rather than "Helped in Pediatric recovery area by entertaining and occupying patients"
4. Focus your entries in the job you are applying for. I'm a Pre-med Biomedical engineer student, so when I apply to a shadowing position, I emphasize my clinical and biological experiences. When I apply to something about engineering, I emphasize my experience working with tools, devices, and math.
This is all resume. I suck with cover letters.
If your in college, talk to your career center, they can be a great asset for this and other things like job fairs, info sessions, etc.
Your resume should be extremely general and brief. Nobody really cares about your life story when they're reading your resume. It should basically just a short point-form list of your education, employable skills, and experience. It should read like it was written by a robot for a robot. If you can fit it all on a single page, minus references, then good. If an employer has to go through 100 resumes to hire a few people, they're not even going to bother reading a 3-5 page wordy resume with a bunch of irrelevant information like goals and hobbies and interests. It'll go straight in the trash.
Format it neatly. It should be tidy and immediately accessible. No weird fonts. Don't do something like use central alignment...
Your cover letter is where you tailor the application to a specific job. Just write a few paragraphs about why you're interested in the job you're applying to, what skills you have that are applicable, and why you think you're an ideal candidate.
And strong language proficiency would definitely be an asset in the cover letter. Spelling, grammar, syntax...
