Hey guys I'm doing my final exam english project on The history of nintendo and I was wondering if anyone knows of any really good sources of information that google can't find. I looked on the actual website but all they have is a vague console timeline, I'm looking for the history of nintendo dating way back to the late 19th century kind of information. so if you have any sites you can link me to that'd be great, and feel free to comment and discuss it here as well.
ALSO: Yeah wikipedia can be okay, but I can't use it as a source for my project. Oh and it helps if it has a copyright date or .gov .edu (if they exist..)

Um, the Wikipedia page has a bit of good facts on the first paragraphs. I dunno much else, except recommending a heckuva load of Googling.

Just found an article here on nintendo life I can use... it would be awesome if they made a better detailed one that names specific dates and stuff like that, but this is good too.

Just use what's on Wikipedia, and use the references as citations.

I'd recommend going to a library and see if they have Game Over: How Nintendo Zapped an American Industry, Captured Your Dollars, and Enslaved Your Children (nice title!), published in 1993 and written by David Sheff. It's very interesting. And if you like pictures, (there's plenty of them in this one) there's The History Of Nintendo Volume : 1889-1980 From Playing-Cards to Game & Watch by Florent Gorges.

Do you subscribe to Nintendo Power? That makes a wonderful source, especially if you have back issues. The issue about the NES's 25th Anniversary is a great source of Nintendo information (at least for video game knowledge). Check your local library, just like mdee suggested above me.

I'm back (for the moment)!

I did, from the unveiling of pokemon emerald to the e3 announcement of the Wii, I kept them all too! I'm going to start looking through them to find one that has some historic value in it, probably the e3 announcement of the Nintendo Revolution and wii. I unfortunelty won't have time to go to a library by friday (due date) so I may just use this as a source and a physical presentation. Thank you so much for the idea!

I suggest looking at this book. It's copywrited 1993 but gives an excellent history of Nintendo from their humble beginnings until then. It's quite a long read, but it's definitely worth it if you want to do a comprehensive report.

Anyone who uses Wikipedia deserves to fail.

Look. This is how you go about doing a history project on a corporation: you ring Nintendo, and ask to be put through to its media relations or marketing department. There, you mention politely that you're a student doing a project on Nintendo's corproate history, and if Nintendo can send over details on its past.

That will give you a solid grounding to base your report on, and your teacher will be impressed that you actually did some proper research, rather than copy and paste out of a book or off a website.

Then I shall fail as well since I use it to find some references

There are actually books written on Nintendo's history, even some at my University's library

It's a good place to start, but books are as liable for bias and misinterpretation and Wikipedia.

The best thing to do is get information from the source itself. At least then if it's incorrect you have grounds to claim the company is misrepresenting itself.
