The first video game "system" I ever had was a Plug 'N Play thingy. It doesn't really count, though, since I'm pretty sure it mostly had NES games.
My first home console was a PS2, which has mainly been a party game console for years now. I've bought some more games for it now, though. Have also got a PSP, which I'm very fond of. Even though it's overshadowed by the 3DS at the moment.
I plan to buy a PS3 eventually, and possibly a Vita some day way into the future. I like Microsoft and all, but their game consoles don't appeal to me, so I can't really ever see myself buying an Xbox.
No way I'm getting a PS3 though, with the lack of games and the pig headed status of Sony Computer Entertainment. Can anyone take those guys seriously anymore?
It doesn't "lack games", it just doesn't have games you're not personally interested in. Trust me, I've seen how many games they have, there's no way you can say they "lack games". As for "taking them seriously", I don't take them any more or less seriously than any other company, especially since the only people you actually hear from are the guys who are trying to sell you their products - people I'd never really listen to unless I want to hand over my wallet.
You're right, it just lacks games I really like. But you have to admit, it's a not a HUGE variety. I can only buy "Shooter Guy" or "King of button mash" so many times. That's not to say it's all bad, but I'm not buying a console for three games I'm interested in.
Anyway, if you've been paying attention to Sony's executives, they enjoy belittling their competition, when one of their favorite things to do is rip off their designs (if you can say with a straight face that Move isn't a total Wii ripoff, you're only kidding yourself). Plus, they're tech support is abysmal. When I had issues with my PS2, I would often get some outsourced people in India who would give me little to no help, and in the end I would just be sending the system in. Once I sent it in because of disc read errors, and they returned it with a busted fan, and I had to send it in again. Oh, and do you remember that hacking incident? That's pretty terrible that a multi-million dollar company would be prone to serious hacking, but the fact that they didn't fix it for WEEKS is even worse. There's no reason that shouldn't have been fixed within a couple of days.
Whether you like the consoles or not, you have to admit: Sony, right now, is NOT the image of an ideal company.
For a guy that supposedly loves JRPGs, to turn around and say the PS3 "hasn't got any games" is silly. It's the best supported console with JRPGs.
Also quite ignorant RE: the hack. Firstly, Sony is a multi-billion dollar company. Secondly, if you think fixing a network of that size would be a matter of rebooting the computers, then you should do some reading up.

First thing, I don't love JRPGs. I like RPGs a lot (the genre in general, not just "JRPG"), but it isn't my favorite genre, and this has been a terrible generation for console RPGs. The only two console RPGs I've really, really liked this generation have been Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon. The only RPGs on PS3 I would consider picking up would be Demon's Souls, Disgaea, and maybe Tales of Graces (I'm not counting Tales of Vesperia because it's also available on 360). I never said PS3 didn't have any games, it has plenty, but they just aren't for me. You are right when you say that PS3 has the most RPGs, but I see very few worth playing.
Also, I'm not being ignorant. I'm being realistic. I understand that fixing the hacker problem isn't exactly a piece of cake. I was a little harsh in saying a couple of days. I would say a week to two weeks at longest. Do you know how long it took PSN to be back up fully? Nearly a month. So a huge, wealthy company like Sony, with what I can only assume are very smart people working for them, had to spend almost a month to bring their services back? To make matters even worse, they've been hacked TWICE now. That is just ridiculous. I'm not even sure how an industry giant could let themselves get severely breached once, but twice?
Playstation 1 and 2. I've been a mixed Sony-Nintendo fanboy since I was a kid. Sad thing was that I chose getting a Wii over a PS3 so I've drifted towards Nintendo the past few years because I've been missing out on great Sony titles.
Why do astronauts backtrack? They forgot the Space Jump Boots.
The fact of the matter is that no one is immune to hackers. No one. There is no such thing as perfect security. As for why it took so long, it's a global network that they had to rebuild from the ground up. I'm surprised it went up as quickly as it did.
And the games...all I'll say is that contrary to what you think, I believe there are plenty of JRPGs on the PS3 worth getting. In fact, the JRPGs are the very reason why I want a PS3 in the first place. But it doesn't matter. If you wanna say there's so few games worth getting, that's fine - it's your lose, not mine.
I've owned pretty much all the major consoles since the 8-bit day's at one time or another. I'm a fan of games not consoles! not got a PS3 yet but I will
...except a dreamcast. a few years ago my mom bought it in a garage sale for like 15 dollars with keyboard, a bunch of games, and a travel suit case thing. even though i'm a ninty fanboy i did have some good times playing marvel vs capcom 2 and sonic adventure...
Why lie? I'm a Nintendo fanboy.
I prefer jumping on my enemies rather than shooting at them.
No, it's not. It's a GenMobile. http://stoneagegamer.com/genmobile.aspx It's a clone system with a cartridge port and 20 built in games. I know what the Nomad is, but thanks anyway.
