To get the Mario 3d world thread on topic, I split the GOTY debate here.
So, debate well, and remember that isn't a very formal thread. This isn't deciding a grand official award (Unless you want it to be so)
Have Fun!!
Rayman Legends. It is the game that justifies the Wii U's existence more than any other (currently released at least), not to mention just being a fantastic platformer with an absurd amount of content. The delay of Watch_Dogs and the new Donkey Kong Country means that the only games I could possibly see changing my mind on this would be the Stanley Parable, Two Brothers or the Wonderful 101 (and even then I doubt it). GTA V would have to be at least as good as RDR for that to work out(as someone who is a little bit meh towards past GTAs) and AA5 would have to be as good as the third game, maybe better. So I could change my mind but I feel this is right.
If GOTY 2013 went to the highest rated game...then... Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds would win.
Its scoring higher than GTA V (its an amazing game though).
Its scoring higher than Last of Us (good game but overrated).
Personally, my GOTY as of right now.. is probably Wonderful 101. I put a lot of time into that game before I quit and I only stopped because I can't get platinum on the boss fight and finally unlock Bayonetta. Stupid flight part.. getting hit once means no platinum even on Very Easy. I haven't played any PS3 or 360 games this year.. so I really can't speak for those. Rayman Legends was really good, too, but not as hard as I wanted it to be. Well, aside from the challenges which is borderline frustrating because you can't get platinum in some without having mulitplayer which I rarely have.
Other than that.. I'm with Blastoise-san, I'd bet Zelda: ALBW will atleast be handheld GOTY and possibly my overall GOTY. I've been chomping at the bit to play it since I first seen it and these recent reviews have only exasperated that.
The Wonderful 101! It's the most creative game to be spawned in recent years, and it's got a team that's very Power Rangers Sentai team-esque. I love how it can achieve mood changes flawlessly, and the voice acting makes you feel like you're watching an old cartoon. It's also got a ludicrous amount of post game content. Seriously, it screams Ninty, and it was developed by Platinum. Also
giant robot PunchOut!! for the win!

I guess for me this year so far it's probably out of...
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (any game that I can spend over 1000 hours in so quickly deserves consideration)
Etrian Odyssey IV
Pokemon X
Wind Waker HD (if you want to count remakes, then this wins)
Rayman Legends and Animal Crossing: New Leaf were pretty good, but not quite up there.
I can't rule out A Link Between Worlds or Bravely Default (despite not being too excited for either), and as disappointed as I was that we're getting a 3D Land sequel as opposed to a true 3D Mario game, 3D World is looking like a ton of fun right now (especially four play multiplayer) so that could be up there.
If anyone thinks hat the real game of the year will be anything bt The Last of Us, or GTA V you don't know what you are talking about. (Even though i haven't really played either of them) but I will play TLOU eventually.
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Fire Emblem: Awakening
maybe in the near future the Legend of Zelda a Link Between Worlds(can't say for sure about a game that I don't have and didn't release yet)
and I really feel like mentioning SteamWorld Dig and Harmoknight best digital only games on the Eshop in my opinion!

Considering how incredibly biased these game award things are, I'd be highly surprised if a Nintendo game gets GOTY.
what!?!?!? I thought this thread was about neveryone saying their own Game of the Year looks like I was mistaken...
it's almost obvious the award winning game of the year will ge either GTAV or the Last of Us(I don't like either, but those the best non-Nintendo games of the year according to 90% of the people and the majority alway wins)

My game of the year would have to go to The Last of Us. Naughty Dog just hit it out of the park with that one. Next up I'd probably have Bioshock: Infinite, and then I think after I play it Zelda will be third for the year.
@Blastoise-san: I checked up on metacritic, and A Link Between Worlds isn't scoring higher than either of those games.

Even when Nintendo makes a stellar game, the critics rarely give it it's due. SMG/SMG2 were the only critically acclaimed Wii games. I had a Wii, PS3 and a PC. I played far more Wii and enjoyed it far more than anything else I owned (TP, Xenoblade, MP3, DKCR, Galaxy Masterpieces, not to mention how much use age it got at parties)
GOTY will probably be the TLOU, sadly. While the story was the best I have ever experienced, the actual gameplay felt lackluster. It had a "I played this crap a million times before" feel to it. I'm just so fed up with first and third person shooters. Can developers make interesting games without relying on the shooting mechanism as a crutch? It feels so lazy.

I hope its not TLOU that game was no wear near as good as reviewers hyped it up to be, probably gonna be GTA 5 which I think is a pretty good contender.
For me, it's one out of either Fire Emblem: Awakening, The Last of Us and GTA V. Spelunky and Device 6 were also amazing, but I just don't think I could consider those smaller games more worthy over something of such staggering scope like GTA. The only thing that's really going to have a chance of being added to those is Super Mario 3D World I think. 2013 has been an amazing year of games for me. Exciting times ahead.
