Topic: Games You'd Like to See in HD 2D? (Octopath Style)

So Octopath was an obvious success and the same team is now remaking Dragon Quest 3 in the same style as they call "HD 2D".
Personally I think this was a smart move and the game looks gorgeous from what were were shown alone, and the visual in Octopath were one of its highlights. The style is so good even other games are incorporating the style in their own way like Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes.

So while this artstyle is still new and fresh I think I want to see more games that adopt it.
A bunch of SNES RPGs and other old games could go really good with this artstyle, to name some I'd like to see the following games in this style personally:

Chrono Trigger - This game had great sprites for its time and I think rejuvenating it in HD 2D would be awesome to see. Not to mention it would expose more people to this game and there would be a definitive version thats easily accessible.

Dragon Quest 1&2 - Since there already remaking DQ3 in HD 2D they might as well remake the other games in the Erdrick trilogy. Plus they already hinted that they'll do it, it mostly depends on how well DQ3 performs sales wise. I wouldn't mind other Dragon Quest games remade in the style either though, specifically 4-6, the Zenithian trilogy. I would prefer 8 and 9 to be remade in full 3D, DQ7 on the other hand could go either way.

Super Mario RPG - The games age shows but its still a good game and I think it would be really good in this style. Its not like you can rely on the NSO to put it in the library anyway....

Shin Megami Tensei 1&2 - SMT and Persona may be moving on to 3D, but that doesn't mean we can't have 2D RPGs anymore. The first two SMT Games are heavily aged and putting them in HD 2D sounds like a no brainer.
And it would be a great opportunity to expose SMT to the west even more, this would be many peoples first time playing the first two games of the franchise since they never left Japan if you don't count fan translations.

And thats all the games I can think of, what games would you like to see in the Octopath Style?

The obvious answer is FF6. I've thought about it ever since Octopath was announced.

Not in the adventure genre but on 3DS Steel Empire the shmup got pretty much this treatment. I think it’s cool

@CactusMan What if Nintendo used it as an opportunity to bring Mother 3 out of Japan? Because it would be a remake, they could remove any content that they find problematic.

Maybe Xenogears, but that should probably just be remade in general

@CactusMan Yeah! I've seen some YouTube videos and people think that the problem is some story elements. With a remake, they can keep the core of the game intact, while making it appeal to the Western audience.

Chrono Trigger badly needs this - currently only available on Steam. And I don't know if I would a FF7 style remake for it since the story is perfect as is and doesn't need changing. So a 2D-HD look is a safer bet lol

I'd want Final Fantasy Tactics as well, Triangle Strategy showed the style can work for the tactical RPG genre as well.

And I guess just to be greedy, why not Suikoden I + II as well.

@Mikmoomamimocki : I think the best course of action regarding Mother 3 is to keep it exclusive to Japan/Asia, but keep the English localisation completely uncensored, similar to how some games are exclusive to the region, but still contain English support in order to appease existing hardcore Western fans (like Dead or Alive Xtreme 3, which would probably run afoul of the perpetually "outraged" if issued a broader Western release).

I don't know about that idea. That would only appeal to hardcore fans that already know about Mother 3. To the average user, it's a hassle to get a Japanese Nintendo account just to play one game. The hardcore fans have already played the game, using the fan translation patch. I think that a port/remake of Mother 3 would be aimed towards people who aren't yet fans. Nintendo could position it as an unknown classic finally leaving Japan or something.

@Mikmoomamimocki : You wouldn't need a Japanese account. One could just import the Japanese release, preferably as a physical release with the trilogy games on a cart (with English/European support for other South-East Asian and Western markets).

Such a release wouldn't be a huge seller anyway, so I couldn't imagine such a release seeing the light of day in the West even if it did receive a butchered and bowdlerised localisation.

Yeah definitley, its age shows the most out of all the Xeno games. That said would you prefer it to be remade in 2D or 3D?

This might seem weird, but I think Advance Wars would look great in an HD-2D style. Hopefully the style that Re-Boot camp made works out, but I think that an HD-2D style would be cool.

I think the 4th Bravely Default game (Bravely Default 3?) would look good in the style.

@StarPoint Interesting, do you think Advance Wars Re-Boot would've looked better in HD-2D?
