Topic: Ever bought a new game, and there was no game in the case?

I buy most of my games (and CDs, DVDs etc) from JBHiFi. Everything on the shelf is double shrink wrapped in its case with the disk inside. You'd think they'd be worried about people stealing stuff but there are staff everywhere, a stamp system (paid, taken) and a huge bloke at the only entrance. Their prices are really good so I guess it works. I have never had any problems with them.

EB Games however is a slightly different story. They have the "games behind the counter" system (like Sanity who are garbage BTW) to prevent people shoplifting. I haven't had the no disk in box problem but I have had to, sometimes, wait a good ten minutes for them to find the disk with a couple of times having to wait while they look for it out the back after not finding it behind the counter. JB are much better.

@skywake Game has all their game's sealed, and they have cheap prices. I saw de Blob the other day for 40 bucks.

You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

@skywake: That sounds like my local JB, which one do you go to?

@aviator: must just be your game, I've never bought anything from them because they're more expensive than EB where I am, so I get most of my games either on-line or from Big W

I've never had this problem with anything, but now I'm paranoid.

I always check games as I walk out of the shop, having learned the hard way. At least twice now, I have got home, opened the box, and found a completely different game inside. Nothing more annoying than going back to the shop, when you should be sat on your arse playing the game.

Did you ever get Crystal?

Yes and no at the same time...

When I first got my Dreamcast, there was no game in the case when I opened it. We went back to change it and no game in th second either. I didn't know there was a second compartment to the Dreamcast game cases. Haha...

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Machu

Ouch dude. Don't ya just love moments like that. Doh!

Something along those same lines happened to me. I purchased MySims Racing for the Wii. I got home, unwrapped it and popped it into the Wii to play it. It loaded up and started normally. Then it locked up on the intro screen where you have to Push "A" to continue. I could not get the thing to work. I drove back to the store and swapped it for another one. I got home and the same thing happened again. I hopped online to see if anyone else was having the same problem and discovered a crazy solution: I always keep my GameCube controller IR receiver plugged into the Wii. It turns out that MySims racing locks up the intro screen if it detects a GameCube controller. I simply unplugged it and the game began playing normally.

Never happened to me. But one time at McDonalds, I ordered a kids meal when I was younger, and there was NO BURGER! I actually cried, then I went back to get it. It didn't even taste that good, thats why I now go to Burger King!

McDonalds have to be the scariest place ever, you should never ever go there again!

Thats what happened to me! When i was 6 my mom took me to K-mart and I wanted Pokemon Crystal, I bought it then went to my room alone and opened it and no game. I yelled to my mom and I ran to her and I told her what was wrong. She wasen't sure i was lying or not. But then we went back to K-mart and told the lady that there was no game inside, she believed me and I got another.

Nope, never happened to me. But it does seem extremely unlucky for that to happen to you.

While this has never happened to me, I did found a new copy of Wii Sports Resort (with Wii Motion Plus) at BJs for (insert drumroll)...

$45.99!!! (No, I'm not Kidding!)

The people who work at BJs must have thought that they were selling the game WITHOUT Wii Motion Plus or something. Either way, I saved 4 bucks, possibly saving enough money for S&P2 (I already had other games I was planning to buy). I am a happy man.

EDIT: @Stuffgamer1 I find the little things in life fascinating for some reason. It's just nice to see that things can be different, even if it's just the small things.

@Roopa132: You didn't read my post, did you? It CAN happen, even if the game is factory sealed. Others have attested to the same thing. Yes, GameStop does have a stupid game storage system (even though I work there, I don't really agree with how it's done), but they aren't the only ones who can sell you an empty box.

@BassX0: Something similar happened to me when I bought RPG Maker for PS1. It comes in a mutli-disc style box, but only has one disc. When I first opened it, I FREAKED! But upon examining the packaging further, it became apparent that it was only such a big box to fit the huge (two-part) instruction booklets.

@Magi: Wow, something just like that happened to me with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time on PS2! Turns out, that game doesn't work if you have the DVD remote receiver in controller port 2. How weird is THAT?

@V8 Ninja: Considering most stores sell that same package for $49.99, I don't see what you think is so weird about that deal. That's about BJ's standard, really.

Kind of. I once bought a PS2 game at Target and when I got home I found it had a AOL trial disc instead of the game. That was definitely a WTF moment if I ever had one. I took the game back to Target the same day and explained what happened but they gave me a hard time about it. They eventually agreed to exchange it for another copy buy they actually had a security guard escort me to the game section to do so. Thank God nothing like that has ever happened to me since!

Lol I got a copy of FF7: Dirge of Cerberus from Amazon, brand new. I knew there was a problem because there wasn't plastic wrap on the box when I took it out of the shipping package. Upon opening the case? 0 game--some grubby little shipping-line douche probably jacked the game before putting it into the box. Amazon was awesome about it, despite the fact that I could've easily been some dude that got the game, opened it, took the game out, and called for another free copy (which, now that I think about it, was probably what the jerk that stole it was thinking).

This is actually why I refuse to shop at Gamestop. If I'm buying a new game, I will be the person to open the shrink wrap, open the case, smell the New Gamecar Smell, and first take the disc out of the box. When I went to buy Deadspace Extraction from GS (wanted it that day) and watched the manager open the display box, take a game out of a drawer, put it into my box, and then ring it up for full price, I laughed at him. I told him there was no way I was paying full price for it given that it clearly wasn't new, and he claimed this was the way they normally sold games "to prevent theft". I do not care. After him insisting this was kosher and not offering a discount, I went to Best Buy and bought it. Not a huge BB fan either but hell at least the game wasn't tainted.

One time I tried to buy a new game from GameStop and they gave me a used copy.
