Wait, you're telling me Fortnite wasn't a horrible dream I had at some point?!
It'll probably end up dying out in the next few years.
Your first anything is important; a memory you don't want to forget. That's what makes nostalgia such a fascinating concept. That's why many people enjoy games that have aged well.
But no, I think fortnite is going to be around for a good wile. People not like like epic, but I think there pretty good business men, They have been getting a good amount of crossovers, and even if fortnite does die, the launcher is still a thing, sony and them have been getting close as well, in my opinion
Edit: when you say dead, do you mean player wise or popularity wise?
It won't be dead until the servers go down. And given that Unreal Tournament (which Epic released in 1999) is still playable online I think it's safe to say Fortnite will still be going in 2030.
Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music
Worth considering what has happened to all other games/series of that kind of scale over the years. Kinda rare for them to die off completely.
Think Minecraft, Wii Sports, GTA, Pokemon, Tetris, Super Mario Bros, Pacman. None of these games disappeared, they all still have a fair amount of weight behind their branding. Sure, some have MORE power than others because of how they've been managed over the years. But all these IP still have a fair bit of pull. Just look at the reaction to Switch Sports recently, or Pacman in Smash a few years back
Now I might not have much interest in Fortnite myself... like at all... but 350mill registered accounts is a number you can't ignore. Even if some of those accounts were people like myself who jumped into one match and decided it wasn't for them. Still makes it probably one of the top 20 or so games ever in terms of people who played it. Especially when you exclude things like Candy Crush and Microsoft Solitaire
Some playlists: Top All Time Songs, Top Last Year
An opinion is only respectable if it can be defended. Respect people, not opinions
I've been playing a fair amount of Fortnite recently. Playing it as a single player doesn't hold my attention for long, but now my kids have access to a Switch each too, partying up with them has been a really special opportunity I've not had before and we've been having a great time. One kid is 7 and the other is 10, and we had a session a few nights ago where we won three battle royale squad games out of four. I've no idea how Fortnite does its matchmaking, but to be sitting with your kids and 'taking on the world' at battle royale like that is pretty cool, especially as it's free to play. The last game, we were holed up in this house, taking fire from all angles, I was repeatedly having to direct the kids to crawl into safe spots to revive them, hoping that no one would charge us as I did so, it felt frantic and electric and to end up winning felt just a little bit... epic.
So while I can see my family moving on from Fortnite as a regular activity, while it's free to play and so accessible I can see a pretty endless conveyor of new players having fun with it for years, and we'll maybe be diving back on from time to time to relive the glory days
Tried Fortnite a bit in 2018, the day it got released on Switch, and just didn't enjoy the game. I tend to like its competitors and alternatives more, Apex Legends and Spellbreak.
With that said, as long as the servers stay up, I think people who genuinely enjoy the game will still play it years from now. Being into PC games, I've seen online games that I played 15-20 years ago, still have active players. I played Medal of Honor Allied Assault online in 2006, recently was surprised to find a server full of active players recently (GameSpy is no more, but the game still has the "connect to IP Address" option).
It won't be dead until the servers go down. And given that Unreal Tournament (which Epic released in 1999) is still playable online I think it's safe to say Fortnite will still be going in 2030.
Pretty much this is what I'm talking about, a couple months back I found an active Quake III Arena server, even Counter-Strike 1.6 still has people playing online. Just checked Steam's server browser too, and in the early 2000's, Counter-Strike was touted as the "#1 action online game" similar to how Fortnite got big (in terms of popularity).
Edit: I also want to add, older PC games, like Medal of Honor, Quake 3, and CS, gave players the option to host a game server from the menu, as well as software to host dedicated servers. All included with the game. Nowadays, more and more games rely on a matchmaking service. So that may play into why these games can still be played online.
No. Fortnite is a free game, and one that gets constant updates. Until the updates stop, there will still be a significant amount of people playing.
While I personally don't care for the game, it is hard not to see the genius of its monetization. Why buy the new Call of Duty every year when Fortnite is free and keeps getting new content!
I play it every day for the last 3 years it has more and better seasons than any other game like it . I mean it's fun as well as fighting. I'm kind of following it like a TV soap opera as the ones I use to watch are no use any more. so I follow fortnite instead👍
Gonna stay in the neutral ground here. In my opinion, Fortnite will still be here when 2030 comes around, but NOT without the game upgrading or adding features and other interesting things.
There's also a possibility that it will still be here by then, but with less and less players.
