Topic: Do you RAGE at game losses?

Whether online or in single player mode?

I've asked this question to many other gamers before and they ALWAYS say they don't because its silly/pointless etc but let's be honest; we all do it out of frustration.

I'll admit to breaking a control pad or three...

I think the most I've done because of a game is yell very loudly. I have certainly been tempted to throw controllers, but not ever done it because of games, as controllers are expensive to replace when they break.

I have only thrown a controller once, but as I said, not because of a game but something else that happened on the day which was years ago. Thankfully, the controller didn't break.

I do rage at some stupid moments where it looks really unfair like in the Soulsborne series. But after 20-30
tries when I finally kill the boss or get past certain area I "tell" the game to **** off and I am chill after that

No because it’s just a game. I haven’t gotten mad at a loss since my early 20’s (soul calibur 3’s story mode final boss…iykyk). Other than that, no. I know others manage anger differently and that may be a factor, but it’s just a game and has no impact on your actual life. If one is getting angry…time to take a break. If I feel a game is wasting my time, it is and time to do something else.

It is interesting that the OP is implying that people that control their temper or are unbothered are lying though.

Very, very rarely. The most rage-inducing games for me are the ones that are just designed in an unfair way. Not even if they're super difficult like Celeste or Hollow Knight. But if I die for some stupid reason I'll just get briefly upset before moving on and trying again.

Admittedly, I've sworn profusely while playing Mega Man and Contra games before.

Throwing tantrums isn't an attractive quality, though, so I try not to "rage" too often. More often than not, just sitting the controller down and coming back later is a preferable strategy to working yourself up into an angry lather.

Ugh. Men.

Magician

Far too often.

Competitive multiplayer always triggers me, so I usually avoid game modes like that.

No because I avoid competitive multiplayer games. xD
If it's single player and I know it will be difficult then I know what I got myself into and I'm actually weirdly calm. Of course I have raged before, but I can't recall specific moments off the top of my head.

Partner on FIFA on the other hand, how does such a gentle soul emmit so much rage?!

No, I am not a 5 year old. If a game bothers me that much, I move on to something else or another game, and come back to it later.

@Magician Thank you for being honest.

I'm currently playing an online-only X-Box 360 game before the servers are permanently switched off in December and getting killed repeatedly by the same player is turning me into the Hulk!

@AndroidOS

Yeah, I straight up treated my controller like the Hulk did Loki.

Maybe I need to cut back on energy drinks? LOL

Rage? Not really.

Although I do sometimes get frustrated if I'm finding a game particularly difficult. In such a case...I just put it down, either temporarily or permanently. Gaming is meant to be fun, not rage-inducing.

I've actually become less and less inclined towards playing difficult games as I get older, just to avoid more stressors in my life.

I really only rage quit, I've never broken a mouse or controller or anything. I often rage quit Jak 2, pick it up in a few days then realize the mission was so hecking easy

I used to when I was a teenager and early adult. Now, at most, I might angrily slide the controller on the table and mutter an incredulous insult, but I don't usually rage.

Last time I did was three years ago, playing Halo 2's infamous Gravemind level on Heroic. But it was the middle of the pandemic, I had just lost my job, and the whole ordeal was downright therapeutic.

It's one of my favorite games now!

Against a CPU? Yeah. (not so much yelling or throwing things)

Against other players? No. They probably get mad at me for winning, and it's a neverending cycle.

Rage is a strong word, but there are points in some games where I'll just quietly swear to myself and somewhat lightly hit the couch or my own leg or something on that level. I remember Celeste level 9 doing that to me a lot.

*For the record, I've SMASHED a SNES control pad and two DualShock 3's.

I stopped breaking my 'pads after the DualShock 3 my partner bought me ended up in smithereens up the wall and I feel/still feel really bad about it.

I still rage though and punch the carpeted floor.

My mouth normally needs a good wash after a few games of Splatoon — mainly due to me yelling at teammates who (thankfully) can’t hear me. I rarely find myself yelling at the other team though. Beating us is their job, after all. Pretty sure I alone make a good case for there not being open voice chat in that game.

As for single player games, I might shout “OH PISS BUM!” at the TV after dying at a particularly exasperating point, but generally it’s fairly tame.

Thankfully in neither case does it boil over into physical aggression. I’ve never lost any hardware to ‘gamer rage’. If I actually broke something over a video game I’d have to step back and re-examine why I was playing the game in the first place.

As a kid yeah/teenager yeah. Nowadays I just call myself dumb for messing up and analyze what I could have done to avoid defeat and try again or rest for a while if I feel too annoyed. When I find a game unfair which is on rare occasions I try to think of something to cheese through it, search for information or worst case scenario, leave the game at that point.

It really depends. I get mad at things I know are my fault, and I wish I could have done better. But don’t really “rage” but take breaks when needed.
