I use to watch that show alot when I was a kid as well. I remember that it come on sometime after school probably around like 5 o'clock or something like that. They dont make classics like this anymore. If any of you guys notice Big Time Rush on Nickelodeon reminds me alot of the Monkees. YOu can tell that the Monkees was a big inspiration for that show.
My thoughts and well wishes goes out to his family.

whilst they were a manufactured group, the guys all were talented, especially mike nesmith. i watched the show religiously as a kid. even today, their music can put a smile on my face. rest well and at peace, davy.
@Swiket: i'm not certain if you are being 'clever', are truly ignorant of the musical period, or just trolling.)
I remember he featured a lot on Scooby-Doo, and he made a guest appearance on Boy Meets World with the rest of the band. R.I.P., good sir...

I loved the show as a kid, and came to appreciate them more as a band later — yes, they were a "manufactured" band that didn't (or rather, rarely were allowed to) play their own instruments, but they were quite good.
I'd highly reccomend people to try and see their movie "Head", which is an excellent example of 60s-ness (and was partially written by a young Jack Nicholson interestingly enough), and showed that they were "deeper" than they have often been credit for. The movie, as a whole, is very self-aware --- with the band making some strong commentary on what they were and how they were percieved (again, the "manufactured" band).
RIP Davy.
(Fun Fact — David Bowie's real name is Davey Jones ... he adopted the Bowie name so as not to be confused with the Monkees' Davy Jones)
For anyone who gets AntennaTV, they have been/are currently running a Monkees marathon all day today and all day tomorrow, concluding with the movie tommorrow night. Huzzah!
