So today in school, me and my friend were talking about video games. We got to the topic of handheld gaming, and he stated that he wanted the DS brand to die. And then he said something that really made me mad. He said he wouldn't care if Nintendo went away. He wouldn't miss Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, Donkey Kong, Luigi, or any of the Nintendo games. He then went on to say that not only mobile phones are superior over handhelds, but they are capable of making even better gaming experiences than the 3DS or PSP Vita. And finally, he stated that the future of the video gaming industry would be ruled by phones and PCs. I wanted to punch my friend in the face at this point.

the lack of buttons rules out phones.

seriously he was either trolling you or just plain dumb(in this case you should feel for your friend) about phones being better gaming machines

I do think he is very ignorant about these kind of things.

it's like one of my friends I was playing 3DS and he suddenly said "those handheld games look and sound all the same"
gamers that stay only with the PC tend to be a little ignorant and call themselves the master race, nothing really new.

...for me, at least, games are games — if it's fun, I don't mind what I'm playing it on. Right now I mostly play 3DS because I can't afford any other systems. That's all. I'm open to playing any games, not limiting myself to one system like this guy apparently is...

Can't stand the majority of PC gamers for this reason.

@cherry_ds I used to be a full-on PC gamer before I got my DS lite in the summer of 7th grade... but I played things like Plants Vs. Zombies, Spore, and TrackMania... and I think I turned out OK.

Heck, money is what limits my gaming so much nowadays. I'm just living on the Humble Bundle personally (my laptop manages to just barely run the games, but they're certainly playable.)

@SomeBitTripFan I had that same issue (modern games barely running on my laptop), Portal 2 was my most recently released game (released in 2010) that ran without much lag. ...but now that the hard drive needs to be replaced, I might have a better time with some games when I get my new hard drive...

He is playing you like a fiddle. I'm sure he's having a good laugh about it as am I

Check out SUBLIME GAMER, my YouTube Channel
God loves you

Oh no. Someone has a different opinion about gaming than I do.

Time to tell all my friends on the internet!

And can you go a little faster?!

@Gioku: I plan on building myself a decent enough rig to play games for this gen at medium. Good luck in keeping up to minimum requirements.

OT: Either he just has a very weird opinion or he's just trying to get you mad. Don't take it seriously.

Y'know, there are some good games for mobile devices that use the touch screen well, and there are also games that are compatible with controllers.
Here's the critically acclaimed game "The Conduit" running on a mobile device...With Buttons!

As a matter of fact, there are over 300 games for mobile devices that support Moga Pro.
And then there are good games that just don't need buttons.
Layton Brothers
Then there's Republique
http://ca.ign.com/articles/2013/12/19/republique-review
And then there's the IGN Game of the Year Nominee Device6

Plus, let's not forget there are 3DS Games that run perfectly despite the fact that all you need is a touch screen (Professor Layton, Zero Escape, Legend of Zelda DS Titles)

So let's try to blow away this stupid steriotype that mobile gaming is a lesser type of gaming. It's like saying that all Nintendo makes are kiddy casual games. It has the potential to be amazing, and yes, blow out almost all of its competition. Will it? No, because the other publisher's try very hard to maintain their relevance.

Yeah I agree with you @Kyloctopus, games can work perfectly fine using nothing but a touchscreen! ...I'd add Kirby Mass Attack to that list of great DS games that don't use buttons, but that's a totally biased Kirby fan talking.

^this ... and ....

With the Vita he may get his wish, Sony seems to be hurting, not that it's anything to celebrate. I love that Nintendo is doing better than Sony, but let's hope we don't lose Sony.

Oh, I had a recent experience, a friend of mine tried to blame computer technology and video games for that increase in violence which doesn't even exist. I stopped talking to her, flat out disconnected from her completely.

Sony needs a golden goose too, just like Nintendo's 3DS, something to reestablish their footing in the market. Not just because of all the employees at Sony who need their jobs, but because the gaming industry as a whole cannot afford to lose any more hardware developers. A lot of us fankids, I admit that I'm a Nintendo fangirl, often forget we need more companies, not fewer, to keep the industry alive. Rome was not built by only one hand.
