@Kyloctopus Well CoP wasn't inhouse so that doesn't count. Besides what they released after that more then makes up for it. As for S-E they haven't made anything relevent on a Nintendo platform as far as RPG's go since TWEWY so yeah Atlus all the way even if only on handheld systems for Nintendo!
i have dream drop distance and its so boring....(i never liked kingdom hearts the only one i loved was Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days because it's story felt more rpgish)
Playing: Wargroove on Switch and Fire Emblem on GBA

I like Kingdom Hearts and Dream Drop Distance was boring to me...
Well then I guess that takes me back to my original statement! Unless you count Four Heroes of Light which I never played!
Dream Drop Distance...
That's highly debatable.
It being a relevant release, or it's status as an RPG?
I played the demo and it has rpg elements but its no rpg at least in my eyes. Its more like zelda action adventure! Not saying its bad just different.
The key difference between the action adventure & the ARPG, is that unlike action adventure, character growth is heavily influenced by the player in an ARPG.
At the end of OoT3D for example, two different players may have slight differences in development (such as a difference in the number of hearts), but due to the developer dictated progression of the player, other than those small differences, your Link will be almost virtually identical to everyone else's. The same items, the same skill set, and the very restrictive nature in the way you fight Ganon (which is expertly set up to make use of a specific strategy in order to win.
At the end of KH:DDD however, your Riku & mine may play very differently, due to the openness of character growth. You may prefer a ranged battle plan, using commands like Triple Plasma, Strike Raid, Blizzaga, Thundaga, etc., while I may prefer a more direct way of fighting, using commands like Arial Slam, Zansetsukan, Dark Splicer, etc., while someone else may choose a mixture of the two. Then there's the whole nature of party custimization that the game offers (with the Dream Eater partners), which changes the way you approach battles as well (due to their different abilities). Furthermore, the Dream Eaters you have with you, effect what skills you can and can't learn (want heavy fire resistance, and to learn powerful fire spells early? Team up with a fire based Dream Eater), which opens up even more different options for growth. Heck, you may even choose to plow through enemies with the powerful Unbound, while I may challenge myself by sticking with the default Keyblade (while you're forced to use the Master Sword to finish Ganon in OoT3D). No matter what your play style is, they are all legitimate ways to get through the game, and you're never quite as tethered to a certain strategy, as you would be in an action adventure title.
I won't deny that the flow of Kingdom Hearts is a bit more linear than your average RPG, but there are still many elements it has that seperates it from the action adventure genre.
Atlus is working on Persona 5 and FExSMT.
SE is working on Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XV.
This isn't a tough one. Final Fantasy XV looks generic and uninspired and Lightning Returns just looks awful. I like some of Final Fantasy XIII, didn't like XIII-2 at all, and expect the worst from Lightning Returns.
Bravely Default is incredible though and so is The 4 Heroes Of Light. Can't understand why they don't make Final Fantasy games like that anymore. Atlus has had a better track record lately, so Atlus ftw.
I would have chosen Square before FF7.. (Yuck) and most of the FF games after.. the best series they were putting out was Dragonquest.. (though they did put some new stuff on DS and portables) Now I have to go with Atlus... they just put out way better games on all fronts..
I am a wild and free Ninetails not a trainer.. get over it...

I concur, FFXII almost brought me back to that series, but then FFX2 came out and they lost me completely. Atlus, on the other hand, seems to consistently improve in quality.
Friend list is full, I will be clearing room for Bravely Default soon though. Colors! 3D Gallery, My Blog
