I'm both impressed and not so impressed with the presentation. Impressed that a Metroid Prime title was unveiled and impressed that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 didn't get delayed, and of course I'm looking forward to Super Mario Odyssey. But everything else didn't really interest me all that much. In the end, it was mostly Mario that held my attention.

I'm not sure if it's enough to say that Nintendo won this year, but there were worse years.

Nintendo really brought their A game. I have been pretty much useless at work all day.

As much as I usually don't praise Nintendo, they are really knocking it out of the park today with surprise announcements like Metroid and (sorta) SuperStar Saga. Makes me wonder how many more surprises we can expect over the next few days.

There hasn't been 1 Nintendo announcement that has disappointed this year. Anyone who sat through Animal Crossing Amiibo Fest and Mario Tennis will see Nintendo have definitely turned a corner. Switch is going to be sold out for a very long time.

I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.

I had a whole big thing written up before, but the Treehouse stuff has thrown a lot of it for a loop, so I'll hopefully be able to give a more positive perspective, at least. The Quick version:

  • Super Mario Odyssey is the best thing ever. Period. I love it.
  • I would've liked to see more of Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon, but whatever, they're slated for next year anyways, so I'm sure we'll see more at least by next E3.
  • Fire Emblem Warriors is everything I had hoped for - classic Musou action mixed with just enough strategy to break up said action and make you feel more like a commander on a large battlefield, rather than just an overpowered living weapon.
  • Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions looks like a gorgeous remake, and I'm looking forward to trying out the new content.
  • Splatoon 2 still looks pretty boss, though I guess there were no doubts there.
  • Pokken Tournament DX makes me glad I passed up the Wii U version.
  • the new Yoshi game looks fun as heck, and as delightfully adoreable as always
  • Kirby, on the other hand, has taken the cuteness too far. I'm sorry, but when you start utilizing the power of love and friendship as an actual game mechanic, I have to take a pass - I'd like to keep my man-card, please. Especially what I had to go through to get it back last time...
  • Dear Sonic Forces: Please don't suck. Please, please, PLEASE don't suck. I already like the rogue's gallery you've brought, but the tone of the trailers still has me worried...not to mention it's still Sega...
  • Haven't seen the Treehouse footage of XC2 or Metroid: Samus Returns, so I'm going to reserve judgment until I've sat down with it - at least this time around. I was going to rip it a new one after seeing the trailers, but now that there's actual gameplay footage to view, I figure I mas as well conserve my ammunition...

So yeah, I've been mostly satisfied with this presentation. Mostly. I'll talk to you guys later, once I've assessed the damage the weeaboo bombs left on Elysium...

It's definitely a huge difference overall compared to E3 2015 and maybe 2016 for Nintendo. From my experience, the vibe around Nintendo seems far better this year, and it's a pleasant change. Although it probably wasn't very difficult to have a better E3 than 2015 for Nintendo. With Fed Force, Amiibo Festival, etc...

Some information on VC and digital content management, some kind of tweak to the GUI on the Switch (themes, folders etc) would have been nice but in terms of games, absolutely smashed it.

@Octane The issue with Sony's conference wasn't that everything was coming in 2018 or later. The difference is that everything they showed this year they also showed last year...

Nintendo review:

The Bad:

  • I get it, Nintendo wants to be to the point. But that was too short. Give us some concept art and a developer comment on Prime 4. Give us some more gameplay. If not that, it could have used a greater volume of announcements. Maybe Pikmin 4, maybe save the Pokken remake for this conference, but the hype came and went just too fast.
  • It seems like Nintendo hasn't learned their lesson about 2D platformers on home consoles. It's not that 2D Platformers are bad games, but they can't leverage powerful hardware. They are really best reserved for the weakest hardware available.
  • No Retro Game

The Good:

  • The Treehouse surprises were great.
  • I loved that Nintendo had the balls to tease something that they have little to show for. They kind of stopped doing that back in the Wii U days.
  • A solid number of good looking games, and it's very clear Nintendo will have a steady stream of games through 2018.
  • Mario Odyssey looks like a must buy, and is really bucking Mario trends.

Overall: Solid event. 7/10

EDIT: I made an earlier edit in the wrong place.

No seriously, where is the ignore button? I forgot how hard it was to read posts that are this wrong...

@CanisWolfred
I put the Retro comment in the wrong category. I'm not happy about that. That should have been in the bad.

@iKhan There really isn't any lesson to be learned regarding 2D platformers.

Switch is their only hardware going forward. Notice the complete lack of 2018 3DS titles and Pokemon being confirmed for Switch. Them being on Switch is right move.

"Pokemon being confirmed for Switch"

What if its just Pokemon Ultra moon/Sun deluxe? Or a totally new Pokemon, that's ALSO coming to 3DS? I would laugh if that happens!

Also, the 3DS must be dead a 100 times according to this site. But guess what, Nintendo keeps going on with it. No complaints from me. If the games are good I'll buy. That my 3DS is fricking old doesn't matter!

Henmii

IceClimbers

@Henmii Did you not read the "complete lack of 2018 titles" part? There's NO games coming to the 3DS in 2018 outside a couple localizations as of right now. Not even from third parties.

Quick Question for anyone who saw Devolver Digital's presentation: Did they actually show any games??? I can't find any articles on what was presented there...
