I'd say Past. A Link Between Worlds is great but they kept all the dungeons as easy because you can do them in any order which kinda spoiled it for me plus I like the silliness of a pink haired Link in Past.

I really liked A Link Between Worlds. But ALTTP is flawless. Just pure perfection. I'm glad they both exist but I'd play ALTTP every time.

I tend to go with LTTP. It's close but despite the fact that ALBW has some fantastic dungeons and gameplay mechanics and that its a great revival of LTTP's gameplay, the game feels a bit awkward to me. Between re-using an overworld I'm already not super into (and giving you more reasons to search every inch of it) and the bits of somewhat more modern game design that creeps in (beyond the undeniably excellent parts), its an odd experience that almost feels like it contradicts itself in terms of what it is trying to even do to be a great video game. With LTTP, you know what you're getting.

Well that was my initial thought. Then it became obvious that I think ALBW has more difficulty curve issues. so I think that's the main issue. It sucked the first time because I kept going for the hardest dungeons by accident and it sucked the 2nd time because Lorule starts out ridiculous in hero mode. So I think that's the main issue...probably.

I think it also might be that LTTP is obviously a better 1992 game than ALBW is a 2013 game. The standards are higher now. Same reason why I think Blaster Master is better than the modern updates, because the original is leagues more impressive and cool an NES game then Blaster Master Zero is or arguably can be as a 2017 indie game.

Though regardless, if I rated both of them it'd probably be an 89 vs. a 90 or something like that.

A Link Between Worlds, by miles. When I first played ALTTP a few years ago, I gave up halfway because I didn’t like the dungeons or the combat. A few days ago, I decided to give it another go, in case I misjudged it- and it was worse than I remembered. The dungeons are thematically bland, with few puzzles beyond “find the hidden switch”, and in some cases just feel like a dull 15 minutes of combat rooms strung together rather than a designed level (especially Desert Palace). When fighting, some hit boxes feel way too small. The amount of knockback both dealt and taken is either enormous or non-existent, in both cases making spacing a pain. Also, ALBW’s lower difficulty is a good thing, purely because you spend less time listening to the obnoxious low health beeping sound.
ALBW 9/10
ALTTP 5/10

@Munchlax
I'm very glad I'm not the only one that shares this opinon.
ALTTP felt so stretched out and repetitive with all the backtracking you had to do and vague hints about where to go next.
My experience was basically "hey heres a vague hint about how to progress through this puzzle but we aren't going to tell you that you need like 2, 3 or even more items beforehand!" and spending half of my playthrough wandering around aimlessly.

I genuinely don't get why this game is so heavily praised among fans and even as far to be put in one of the best Zelda games or best games of all time, it's aged like milk imo.

Good... good

@kkslider5552000 Thank you. This is what I was wanting to know, like you said I think it'd be an 89 vs. a 90 for me but with A Link Between Worlds being just a tad higher.
@Munchlax This is why it's slightly above for me, except only for a few of those reasons, mainly just, I don't like some of the dungeons as much as link between worlds

I do think some peoples opinions are a little clouded by nostalgia (which is perfectly fine) but I'm glad I got actual explanations

I replay LttP fairly often as it is still my favorite Zelda. I enjoyed LBW but have no desire to revisit it. I agree that LBW was too easy.

ALttP was a better game in its day, but ALBW is just more fun to play in the present day.

Both are excellent, top-tier Zelda games, but I think I ever so slightly prefer A Link Between Worlds. ALttP is very iconic, but ALBW is slightly stronger in the plot department, I actually liked the item rental system (though I eventually bought it all anyway), and I quite enjoyed the portrait gimmick and the puzzles it brought to the table. In fact, it's one of the 3DS titles I suggest playing in 3D if that's an option.

Granted, my opinion isn't fueled by nostalgia when it comes to ALttP. I first played it almost a decade ago via the GBA port. I've played the SNES version since via the SNES Classic Mini. I fully realize how iconic it is and what it did for the series, and it's still a pretty clean game even by modern standards. However, parts of it could be quite obscure if one wasn't paying attention, and I do find pink-haired Link mildly off-putting.

I found it a bit uninteresting, the dungeons all merge together in terms of complexity.

But it was not a bad game by any means.

I think I like ALBW more. The wall mechanic is super fun to traverse through hyrule and lorule. The cast of characters are better imo. And the fact that you can do the dungeons in any order you'd like, is perfect. Id also say renting items is actually better, for me personally. Having said that, they're both very close. I just think ALBW is my favorite 2d zelda.

A Link to the Past is my favorite Zelda game, however I did enjoy my time with A Link Between Worlds. Sadly though I was unable to finish it but overall it was a solid game and a worthy sequel IMO. It's also one of the 3DS games I really want them to port to Switch since I don't have a 3DS anymore.

I haven’t played much of ALTTP, but I really love ALBW. The wall-merging element was really fun and made for some interesting puzzles.

Link between worlds is far better. It’s only flaw is how easy the game is but that is not a huge problem for me. I have never been able to see why people love a link to the past. Keep in mind I have tried to complete the game 3 times and got bored each time. Probably just nostalgia.

I love them both equally. But if you put a gun to my head, I'd give ALBW the edge.

I slighty prefer LttP for how much an achievement it was back then (it was technically very impressive for its time) but ALBW was a fantastic sequel, not a remake.
